10:43 am The Second of Our Reign by 22by7 (R)
Fandom: DC COMICS
Pairing: Batman/Catwoman
Length: 430 words
Author on LJ: [livejournal.com profile] 22by7
Author Website: N/A
Why this must be read:

This wonderful little ficlet is set after recent events in Detective Comics in which Catwoman's heart is stolen (the organ, not her emotions) and Batman rescues her, then confesses his love to her. It's a beautiful, dusky gem of a story, rich with gorgeous language and a Bruce/Selina dynamic that's intimate, loving, and challenging all at once. It's very hot and very sweet and matches their relationship so well.

He licks slow down her sternum, gathering sweat, sweetness, memories. His tongue mimics scalpel, but he's neither cut nor cure. Still listening, he is rewarded. Her heart quickens.

A cheap, potent metaphor, he knows. Across rooftops and into rhetoric, she can match him.

Fandom: STARSKY & HUTCH
Pairing: none
Length: 244k
Author on LJ: not known

Why this must be read:

Today's story is posted in memory of Bernie Hamilton, Capt. Dobey on 'Starsky and Hutch'. Hutch was poisoned, there is no antidote for him and Capt. Dobey is the main suspect.

Harold Dobey didn't think he'd ever seen anything as beautiful as his home. That is, until he saw his family. He didn't even mind that Rosie and Cal's bikes were in the driveway again. It somehow seemed right, giving him a feeling of hope, to come home and see Edith first, running toward him from the kitchen. She could hardly believe her eyes when she saw the cab door open and her husband emerge.

"Where are the kids?" he asked once he'd soundly hugged and kissed her.

"Upstairs, working on their homework," she said, trying to keep her face from bursting from the huge smile. "Did they drop the charges?" She was so excited at the prospect, he hated to burst her bubble.

"No," he answered somewhat glumly. "But at least someone thought enough of me to post bail. I just don't know anybody who could come up with that kind of money."

"Well," she said, smiling again, "I, for one, am not about to look a gift horse in the mouth. So you go upstairs and say hello to your children while I finish dinner." She gave him a peck on the nose, then a playful swat on the behind as he walked away.

He stood in the doorway, watching Rosie practicing her writing at the small desk in her room.
Dear God, he prayed, she's so beautiful! Thank you! And smart too--at the top of her class. He stood straighter, proudly, before entering the room. Her back was to him, and he stepped softly so as not to alert her.

"Young lady, how many times have I told you not to leave your bicycle in the driveway!" He stormed, his smile softening the artificial anger in his words.

"Daddy!" Rosie shrieked, jumping from her chair into his arms.

04:55 pm a weatherman to know which way the wind blows by zauberer_sirin (PG-13)
hi! i'm your x-files driver for this month.

let's begin!

Fandom: THE X-FILES
Pairing: Mulder/Scully
Length: +4000 words
Author on LJ: [livejournal.com profile] zauberer_sirin
Author Website: At her fic journal: [livejournal.com profile] 42number
Why this must be read:

The first time I read this fic I couldn't breathe. I can say, without any doubt, that I have never been so affected by a fic in my life. I had lines that repeated themselves in my head for days; I re-read it countless times; thinking about it made me feel punched. The writing is exquisite, the structure wonderful, the creativity marvelous. Zau takes us backwards, from the end of the world to the beginning of The X-Files itself, all the way back to the pilot, with enough guh-worthy language to make your head spin.

Read it, read it, read it.

06:20 pm Daedalus by Likeadeuce (PG)
Hello again! It seems that I am driving the Marvel Crack Van this month. I debated whether I had a "theme" I could offer and finally concluded that I really didn't. This will be a mixture of Marvel comics, Marvel movies, and some that include quite a bit of both. I hope to span several Marvel fandoms, hitting all the "biggies" as I go. I hope you enjoy the ride!

Fandom: MARVEL COMICS: Captain America & Iron Man
Title: Daedalus
Pairing: None
Rating: PG
Length: ~8,500
Author on LJ: [livejournal.com profile] likeadeuce
Author Website: [livejournal.com profile] likeadeuce
Why this must be read:

Author's Notes: Takes place during Volume 1 of Avengers, soon after Cap comes out of the ice. I'm using the quasi-canon out of some backup story that Tony put Steve up in a townhouse; and though these things aren't ever clear in the Silver Age, I'm assuming that Tony knows Cap's civilian identity, but not vice versa.

If you're not overly familiar with either man, don't worry too much. This fic does an excellent job of introducing them, individually, and them as friends. Plus, there is a rich, deep history here, and [livejournal.com profile] likeadeuce takes her time in showing it to us, so that we don't miss a thing.

This is the first story I really read with Captain America and Iron Man (Steve and Tony), and I'm so glad. It sets up everything to come with a perfect mixture of bitter insight and hope.

11:23 pm In The Zone by Silver666 (PG-13)

Fandom: NCIS
Title: In the Zone

Rating: PG 13
Length: 4,000+ wds.
Author on LJ:  N/A...hope that's ok??

Why this must be read:

I thought that originally "In the Zone" ended too easy. Of course that might be my complete dislike of Jardine... but alas I wanted to rec this fic b/c despite it's length it was a pretty realistic idea of what could've happened. And it portrayed Tony as the hero we all know him as. It's a short gen fic of a read but it's fast pace and suspense filled chapters help the fic.

I decided to post one more rec before reality hits tomorrow and I have to return to work. This one once again features the darling little girl in red.

Fandom: LIFE ON MARS
Pairing: Test Card Girl/Sock Puppet
Length: 600 words
Author on LJ: m31andy
Author Website: Andromeda at the Collators' Den
Why this must be read: Because the darling girl I refer to above is neither a darling, nor a little girl, however she may appear to Sam and the audience. She is either a product of Sam Tyler's mind, or something that is most likely not human, and certainly not nine years old. This hilarious piece plays on that, by having the Test Card Girl behave in ways that no real little girl would. There is no actual smut, but the dirty-wrong of it all will have you laughing hysterically at the same time you are reaching for something to scrub your brain with.
