Fandom: POPSLASH
Pairing: JC/Justin
Length: 3,000

Why this must be read:
This is a lovely atmospheric AU that feels both old and timeless. It also has some interesting Scandinavian themes, which I've never seen in fanfiction before.

Fandom: HIGHLANDER
Pairing: none, implied Methos/OFC
Length: 1300+ words
Author on LJ: [livejournal.com profile] devohoneybee
Author Website: Through the Gateway
Why this must be read:

I read this story ages ago and I always remember it when I think of Methos. Never has a one off throwaway line given rise to so much speculation. Methos says he was married 68 times. Meet one of his spouses, Yetta. This story works almost as observer fic -- it shows just a slice of Methos's life at one point in his history, and the impression he made, and the lasting memory he left behind. Charming and funny. A nice mid-week treat. :D

Fandom: MARVEL COMICS: X-men Movieverse
Title: All Fall Down (have to get up again)
Pairing: Gen; hints of relationships, but nothing concrete
Rating: PG
Length: Short

Why this must be read:

Author's summary: The morning after Alcatraz, the weather was mild.

This was written for me. I tell you this in the interest of full disclosure, but I almost hate that I have to mention it, because I fear now that people will avoid the rec and think that I'm just being nice.

I'm not.

This fic is breathtakingly spectacular. And that's an understatement. It is the most perfect post-X3 fix-it fic that I have read, bar none. Every dangling thread is picked up, every fractured explanation is twisted just enough to make sense, and every single character is so spot on perfect that it gives me chills every time I read it.

02:23 pm A Promise Made by Ashleigh Anpilova (PG-13)

Fandom: NCIS
Pairing: Gibbs/Ducky
Length: 1,000+
Author on LJ: [livejournal.com profile] nakeisha

Author Website: http://nakeisha.livejournal.com/

Why this must be read:

Written so soon after last nights episode ended I knew there were spoilers within---so a warning folks. But for everyone else in my timezone etc I'll tell you that the beautiful short piece by Nakeisha was great. It enabled the reader to see the end of the ep as a new and less guilty day for Ducky and Jethro both. The emotions involved in the episode itself prompted me to read a Gibbs/Ducky piece---not my preference most days but this fic perfected the good aspects of such a pairing. I'm rec'ing it because not only are the emotions believable but so are the written characters relationship as well. So happy/sad reading ya'll.

Fandom: NCIS
Pairing: Tony/Gibbs
Length: Unknown
Author on LJ: [livejournal.com profile] nikitaclone
Author Website: nikitariddick.livejournal.com/

Why this must be read:
I am by far and wide a huge AU fan especially in my pet fandoms. And since NCIS is at the top of my list as is this fic I figured I'd rec it while I have a chance. It's not a character study other than the fact that once again Tony is a hero. It's supernatural in 90% of it's written aspects but no matter that b/c the author makes it believable. And for those haters of Vance the end of this fic is even better and makes up for the sad beginning.

07:28 pm Fire on the Left by AmericanLeaguer (NC-17)
Fandom: MAJOR LEAGUE BASEBALL RPF
Pairing: Justin Verlander/Joel Zumaya
Length: 11,500 words
Author on LJ: [livejournal.com profile] americanleaguer
Author Website: None
Why this must be read:

Oh, gosh, [livejournal.com profile] americanleaguer. She'll write for just about any team, but the Tigers are her boys. American Leaguer writes good slash, of course, but the thing I love about her stories are that she also writes stupid dudes bantering like stupid dudes, and her characters always have friends that they also hang out with, like, outside of the relationships. Everything always feels like I'm right there, in some restaurant or the park or an apartment with a bunch of really aggressively loud dudes.

This story says so much about the culture of baseball, in all it's crudeness, and yes, heartbreak, but not even just that. It's in the mix-match of people on teams, all bristling up against each other and forming the oddest friendships.

This story is full of baseball dudes acting like baseball dudes from the little things to the big things. From the harsh things to the sort of sentimental things. It's a little bittersweet like I think many baseball stories are (it's a very sad fandom), but it's a good bittersweet.

Fandom: TORCHWOOD
Pairing: gen (reference to Jack/Ianto)
Length: approx. 1,500 words
Author on LJ: [livejournal.com profile] copperbadge
Author Website: Sam the Storyteller
Why this must be read:

...Really, no one has recced this?

Perhaps my predecessors assumed that everyone has already read it. There is strong evidence for that. Hell, Gareth David-Lloyd has apparently read it. As of this post, the story has twenty-five pages of comments. There is a reason for that: it is hilarious.
An ordinary person would have shouted and straightened instantly, but Torchwood training and two years with a grabby boss had taught better. )

So, for the benefit of the unhappy few who have not yet read this, and for future Torchwood fans...
