09:51 am Shatter by Fayth3 (K+)
Fandom: DOCTOR WHO
Pairing: Rose/Nine, Rose/Ten
Length: 1,497
Author on LJ: [livejournal.com profile] faythbrady
Author Website: Profile on FF.net
Why this must be read:

Because transitions aren't easy, especially when the man you love regenerates into another. Taking place after the Tenth Doctor's first episode, the story follows Rose as she makes a journey to a far away planet, to let her grief go. I'd say more, but that might spoil the story so I'll say this: it's a beautifully written story that stays true to its characters and the spirit of the program, so if you love the love between Rose and her two Doctors, you will surely love this story.

11:24 am Pretty Yellow Paper Gown by Sue Beck (NC-17)
Fandom: STARSKY AND HUTCH
Pairing: Starsky/Hutch (Slash)
Length: (7k)
Author on LJ: [livejournal.com profile] dipslikeramon
Author Website: Sue Beck on the Me and Thee Archive
Why this must be read:

It was written for me, but that's not why I'm reccing it. :)

I have a particular adoration for the little scenes-between-the scenes, the addition of what the limits of an hour-long television show causes to be cut out.

I mean...the guys were so doing it, right? But television in the 70s...it got away with a lot, but not this much!

So, after seeing the "cut" scenes *wink* over here, Sue filled in the scene between Starsky and Hutch playing cards in their isolation room in "The Plague" and when they were released from the room. In a hot, quick, fun way. ;-)

04:20 pm stricken in the arms and mouth of a god by romanyg (NC-17)
Fandom: DC COMICS
Pairing: Bruce Wayne/Clark Kent
Length:2611
Author on LJ: [livejournal.com profile] romanyg
Author Website: LJ Tag
Why this must be read:

Because it's a terrifyingly accurate depiction of the love/hate affair Batman has with Superman in Frank Miller's Dark Knight Returns. [livejournal.com profile] romanyg does an excellent job at matching DKR's twisted, dangerous tone, yet can still elicit sympathy for Bruce despite the unpleasantness he wields. And perhaps after reading this, you'll have second thoughts about the Batman in Miller's universe.

Bruce is used to dreams. He's had nightmares all his life. They change as the times change, as he changes to meet the needs of his city and now the world.

He's back in the meadow, hands on the reins of the horses. Clark turns his face to the sun. This time he doesn't speak, just holds his arm out, beckoning. Bruce steps forward, the dappled light, reins forgotten.

Now they're vaulting up, the earth a distant thing. Clark finally speaks. "Isn't it beautiful?"

It is and it isn't. Dark shapes blot the landscape, the wolf at the sun, blood. "No," he says.

Clark smiles, and then a breath in his ear, wind at his feet. "It can be," he whispers. "Let's change the world, Bruce."

06:31 pm Indiscretions in the Life of an Heiress by Alison (R)
Fandom: JANE AUSTEN (PRIDE AND PREJUDICE)
Pairing: Georgiana Darcy/George Wickham
Length: 26400 words
Author on LJ: unkown
Author Website: Alison's page at Firthness.
Why this must be read:

First, let me apologize for recommending a fic that is posted in a closed archive. I know registering to read is a hassle if you're not in the fandom, but I cannot really help it.

Not only Alison is one of the best authors in the fandom, and one of the most period accurate (with amazingly detailed footnotes) but this is one of the best stories. This fic--if [livejournal.com profile] tree will forgive me for adopting her terminology--is the best kind of interstitial fic there is. Not only takes a deep, interesting look at a part of a known and loved book that we barely pay attention to, but it does so with a care and canon love that I guarantee you will want to adopt it into your personal canon.

For Elizabeth fans, I regret to say she does not make an appearance, but if you want another canon-like look a Wickham, Darcy, Georgiana and even Bingley, this is the fic for you. It is also told by letters, in an style reminiscent of Austen times.

Why this must be read: Dawn finds out that Spike is alive and takes it upon herself to check out this new situation. The end of BtVS left their relationship unresolved, and [livejournal.com profile] spiralleds does a good job of having them reconnect.

Fandom: ANGEL
Pairing: gen
Length: 12,000 words
Author on LJ: unknown

Why this must be read: It is so hard to find fic that features the Hyperion Hotel as a character in its own right. I wrote one years ago, and until last night didn't come across another one. Salvaging the Weekend is a blast from the past, a story straight out of Season 2. The hotel is a significant part of the fic, exquisitely described both in the past and as it falls apart and suffers from lack of repairs/money. Kate features prominently as well, and I love how she and Angel still get along at this point. Gunn, Cordy and Wesley all get their snark on, and it just makes me want to pull out my DVDs. Love this fic!
