Pairing: Yukimitsu
Length: One-shot
Author on LJ: weirdlyyours
Author Website: N/A Why this must be read:
Every one of the Devil Bats has struggled to become a better player, but none of them have made my heart ache quite so much as Yukimitsu. Of all of the team, Yukimitsu seems the least suited to playing football: slight and weak, vastly intelligent but without any physical skills. And yet he never gives up on his dream of becoming a player for the Devil Bats.
This fic is Yukimitsu, in all his strengths and weaknesses.
This future is what his mother wants, what his mother dreams of, and Yukimitsu is a dutiful son. He will go to cram school and he will test at the top of his class. He will make his mother proud. Happiness For NowFollowed by Like Water

Pairing: Homer/Panther
Length: One-shot
Author on LJ: memlu/ mekosuchinae
Author Website: Fic Tag on LJ Why this must be read:
So the American/Japanese football match in the manga was kind of awful because of dodgy race issues, but memlu takes characters introduced in that arc and makes them shine. Homer meets Panther for the first time, and it's like magic.
Fantastic story.
What's really striking is this:
He's running the circuit and he's like the fucking wind. Doesn't even look like he's touching the ground. He's floating. He's flying. Homer can't stop staring at him. He's never seen anyone run like that. Holy shit, he thinks. Holy shit.
He watches him run the track again and again, long legs flashing, arms pumping, and all he can think is, Holy shit. Starting

Title: Room With a Q by Mo Boldock Pairing: none Length: 3200 words Author on LJ: blondie_54 Author Website: Her wonderful stories can be found at U.N.C.L.E. File 40Why this must be read: I suppose I should get this out of the way first. I don't like crossover fic and generally avoid reading it. Most everything I've read just reeks of fan wank. Blah. That said, there are always exceptions to the rule and this story is most definitely one of those. "Room With a Q" is a short, humorous story of Q seeking out the universe's greatest lovers in his quest to win the heart of Kathryn Janeway. It's only fitting that Napoleon Solo has made such a list. Our three main characters are very much in character here with Blondie's trademark snappy dialogue and amusing exchanges setting the pace for a delightful read. I've read everything of Blondie's that I can find and have adored them all. I think she's an exceptionally talented author. Here's a taster:“Well, I’ve never met this woman but I suspect she may find you a little overpowering,” the blond agent murmured.
“How would you know? What you know about women could be etched on the back of a positron.”
“Q”, Illya said, thoughtfully, “you have this amazing power. If I had this power, I would want to visit other solar systems, study other planets, other cultures, see the many wondrous things the universe had to offer.” He shook his head. “And all you can think of is to use this power to pursue a woman?” Illya sighed in wonderment.
“Are you sure he’s from earth? He doesn’t have any points on his ears,” Q asked Solo out of the corner of his mouth.Room With a Q

Title: The Fanfic Labyrinth Affair by mikes_grrl Pairing: none Author on LJ: mikes_grrl Author's Website: Mikey's Fanfic Index Why this must be read: I have just been waiting to rec this. Mikey is a genius. If you're not familiar, Thursday Next is a character created by the author Jasper Fforde. She is a detective, of sorts, who solves crimes in the "world of literature," ie, she can travel through books and meet the characters. Mikey decided to borrow her and send her off to solve a mystery in the world of fanfic, specifically LoM fanfic. Mikey adeptly interweaves characters and references to many LoM fics (and provides handy links to them right in the fic) and creates a story so meta, barmy, and absolutely wonderful, I can't stop laughing every time I read it. Fandom: We The People, by Sloganeer and Rossetti Pairing: Jon/Spencer, implied Ryan/Brendon, background Josh/Donna Length: 1k - 4k on average Author on LJ: sloganeer and rossetti Author Website: Rossetti's fic on delicious, Past Tense/Sloganeer's Fic Index Why this must be read: For one thing, both authors nail the voices of all the characters, from both 'verses, and manage to position everyone so that it seems PERFECTLY LOGICAL that the Panic boys would be working the campaign trail/White House. This is more a series of scenes from a universe than a coherent "series", but it gets to the heart of the optimism that the WW embodied and works interestingly around the thought of what Spencer and co.'s life might have looked like if they hadn't automatically decided a band was the way to go. Fandom: ANGEL Pairing: hints of Gunn/Wesley Length: ~ shortish Author on LJ: rageprufrockAuthor Website: Glitterati Why this must be read:Pru was just recced a little while ago over in the NCIS van, and when I saw that I remembered this gem of a fic. Team Angel are still at Wolfram and Hart, 3 years after Cordelia died. While they are together, they aren't dealing very well. Pru gives us a beautiful, bittersweet story of the team learning how to move on and pull back together- with some help from a laptop, and Cordelia. Sincerely

Pairing: none Length: long - 104KB Author on LJ: julia_hereAuthor Website: Her memories. Why this must be read: julia_here is an extremely talented writer, no doubt about it. And Birds Of A Feather proves it. Take two boys, both intelligent, both considered “odd” or “freakish” by their families and peers, both outcasts and watch them form the bonds of friendship, in spite of a ten year age difference. julia_here's writing is meticulous and detailed and covers the span of their friendship, from their meeting in Fort McMurry to renewed friendship in Chicago, and later in Atlantis. I was impressed with julia_here's Fraser-voice, real and believable and him. ( Short excerpt... )Birds Of A Feather

Title: The Recruitment Process by wintersjuly Pairing: Hiruma Author on LJ: wintersjuly Author Website: Fic Tag on LJ Why this must be read:
Because Hiruma really will try to recruit anyone. In this fic, Hiruma makes his rounds through the Discworld, Katekyo Hitman Reborn, JE, Fullmetal Alchemist and Ookiku Furibakutte fandoms in search of new players for his team. I don't know all of the crossover fandoms, but I can appreciate that this is a fine piece of crack.
When Yamapi looked up, the face of a demon from hell looked back. In its clawed hand was a small, inconspicuous black book.
For a very short moment, Yamapi saw his life flash before his eyes.
"Yamashita Tomohisa," the demon said, licking his lips. He flipped through the black book. "Twenty two, idol. Has a sister, mother, two dogs, in love with his best friend and going to be playing some fucking American football fucking right now-" The Recruitment Process

Title: A Better Life by Petra Pairing: Tim Drake (Robin III), The Doctor (Ten) Length: short Author on LJ: petronelleAuthor Website: Dignity. Always DignityWhy this must be read:This fic doesn't feel like a crossover. It's a perfect blending of the DCU and Who-verse with essential nods to both canons. "A Lonely Place of Dying" set after "The Runaway Bride", Petra takes Tim Drake's stalker and attachment tendencies and examines what happens when the Doctor needs a Companion. Tim and Ten are both not only in character, but their voices are clear and essentially themselves. ( Excerpt )A Better Life

Title: Hiding In Plain Sight by Xanthe Pairing: Gibbs/DiNozzo, Sheppard/McKay, Carson/Caldwell and many, many others who would give away the plot, also Gibbs/Ducky friendship Length: ~ 200.000 Warning: lifestyle BDSM, D/S powerplay, disciplinary and erotic spanking, one minor character (SGA) death, also scenes of torture Author on LJ: xantheljAuthor Website: http://www.xanthe.org/Why this must be read:I had a hard time finding a crossover fic that wasn't recced yet and I'm pretty sure most of you won't even want to read the story I'm about to rec (for which I'm sorry, really!). On the other hand, I'm strangely baffled and delighted nobody did this one. And I'm really not as kinky as I come across here (what with two BDSM fics in one round and all) but this one is a total must read if you can stand BDSM fics. Basically, Xanthe created an AU world back in the days when she was writing SGA fics but you don't necessarily need to read those two fics to understand this one. In a nutshell: in this universe, society is divided into Dominants and submissives. It's natural and consensual – at least it should be. There are references to non-consensual acts, but they're not the dominant factor. It's not so much the BDSM of the story that fascinated me (I never was much into it before). It was Xanthe's ability to take the characters of not only one, but two fandoms, put them into this new universe and keep them as in character as possible. Not only that, this story is also basically a love story, simple as that. It never claimed to be correct in terms of the BDSM scene, it just tells a tale of people falling in love and wanting to spend their lives with each other. Well, that and a really thrilling Action/Adventure story. Maybe an excerpt from pretty much the beginning of the fic can give you an idea what to expect: ( Excerpt )Hiding In Plain Sight (this is the main page where you can choose if you want to read it in one big file or in parts)

The 15th of the month is crossover day at the crack van. Alas, I don't think there are many crossover stories to be found for Star Wars, at least, I don't know them. But in honor of that day I want to rec a story that's (in the words of the author herself) 'shamelessly stolen from the 1947 film classic The Ghost and Mrs. Muir', so while it's not a true crossover, it at least is sort of.... There's no sex to speak of, but since it has a slashy content I rate it R anyways. Fandom: STAR WARS Pairing: Qui-Gon/Obi-Wan, in a sense.... Length: long, one webpage, but in no way a novella, too short for that Author: MrsHamill On lj: mrshamill Author Website: Mom's Kitchen (go treat yourself!) WARNINGS: totally AU; and just in case, keep some hankies ready Why this must be read: Another one of MrsHamill's superb stories and, together with 'Son of the Empire' my favorites of hers. This story of longing and an impossible love will pull at your heartstrings, well, it did at mine. One of the few stories that actually made me cry. I love the slow pace of it, the emotions in it and especially how she brings a wholey different AU to life. ( Excerpt )The Ghost and Mr. Kenobi

Title: Storms in the Desert by Kristen Murphy Pairing: Methos / River (if you squint real hard) Length: 2,500 words Author on LJ: juniperphoenixAuthor Website: The Purple LagoonWhy this must be read:For my official crossover this month, I am recommending this little gem of a fic. I like Firefly/Highlander crossovers because we would expect our heroes to live that long, or at least we hope they do. How would they survive and thrive in the Firefly 'Verse? Mal and company have stopped on a planet somewhere. Where it is and the name of it are unimportant. They find themselves attending a town festival. They join in the festivities, and River is soon drawn to one of the townsfolk. She does not quite know why. It is not an attraction, exactly, but he interests her. Their meeting as depicted in this fic is fascinating and almost lyrical. The description of their dance is the best I've seen in a fic or a book, even. The words convey their energy and exuberance and joy in the dance. To say more would give too much away. It's all in River's POV, and her voice is perfect. As is this fic. Highly recommended. * * * ( Excerpt )Storms in the Desert
