Why this must be read:

Ezra angst for Ezra's lovers, Ezra been hurt big time, and the gang were to there to save him.

Excerpt:

He saw no sign of the others. They were not coming. His guts twisted with despair. They abandoned him. Gawd he could not believe how much it hurt, it burned a hole in his gut, like nothing had before. He figured at least JD would have talked the others into getting him back or maybe convinced Buck to help him out. Nothing no one, he was on his own again. He had been on his own before, but this time it was different. This time it burned and ate his gut because, unlike all the other times before, this time he understood what it felt like to belong, to have friends. To lose those friends and that support to be stripped of that shelter found in family, to be suddenly thrust back out on his own, hurt. The lonely pain of ostracism seared through him like nothing he had ever experienced before. He realized he was truly alone. His despair blossomed and spread like a fever, gawd it hurt. He had to save his own precious neck, again. At least it was something he was good at.

Fandom: GOOD OMENS
Pairing: Aziraphale/Crowley
Length: substantial one-shot
Author on LJ: [livejournal.com profile] violet_quill
Author Website: follow links on her LJ

Why this must be read:

Following the comments of old-school GO fan curmudgeons, you'll find the two things they are most picky about are smut and footnotes. Good Omens is in part a Terry Pratchett brainchild and so makes use of footnotes, as he does (and yet has chapters, which his Discworld books don't). Skip the footnotes and you miss many of the most quoted moments. But Pratchett also famously does not write sex scenes - which GO fen, being fen, do most gleefully.

This story has the best integration of these two "difficulties" I have ever seen, as well as keeping all that we love about the angel Aziraphale and the demon Crowley as characters--in particular, their very human talents for denial of the obvious.

I love comedy and I love smut and more than either apart, I love them together. And no, this story's not really quotable, because the formatting is so very special. Form follows function, and both are enjoying themselves.

03:23 pm At Round Earth's Imagined Corners by Jamie Dakin (NC-17)
Fandom: LIFE ON MARS
Pairing: Sam Tyler / Gene Hunt
Length: 2,500 words
Author on LJ: [livejournal.com profile] jamie_dakin
Author Website: Livejournal Fic Tag
Why this must be read:

The reason why this particular fic is special is that Jamie uses a unique style to set the mood. It's gorgeous and lyrical but it has a wonderful gritty realism to it at the same time. Be prepared for a gentle scouring as you float on the flow of words. It's also as creepy as hell. Spoilers for 2.08, warnings for explicit sex and disturbing imagery.

05:07 pm "Just More Tabloid Fodder" by sarcasticsra (PG-13)
Fandom: FAKE NEWS
Pairing: Jon Stewart/George Clooney, Jon Stewart/"Stephen Colbert"
Length: 3,467 words
Author on LJ: [livejournal.com profile] sarcasticsra
Author Website: fic journal [livejournal.com profile] scripted_sra
Why this must be read:

When George and Jon are outed by the tabloids, "Stephen" starts doing whatever he can to save Jon's soul, much to Jon's aggravation.

As serious as that summary may sound, this story is actually funny and endearing, and is a great example of how "Stephen"'s repression can play out in fic.

Fandom: MERLIN
Pairing: Merlin/Arthur, Merlin/Agravaine
Length: 24, 376
Author on LJ: [livejournal.com profile] seperis
Author Website: fic: merlin tag
Why this must be read:

Seperis creates a wonderfully plotty but deliciously porny fic which involves a Merlin who loves sexing, an Arthur who is trying to avoid being married to woman who tried to poison him and a lot of court gossip about Arthur's possible impotence which Merlin tries to solve by helpfully telling everyone that they sleep together, even though they don't. Funtimes ahead.

This is beautifully written, well characterised and did I mention the hott porn?

Fandom: THE SENTINEL
Pairing: none, gen
Length: ~33,000 words
Author on LJ: [livejournal.com profile] starwatcher307
Author Website: Starwatcher's Fic Journal
Why this must be read:

Kid!fic is another trope that can be overdone and heavy-handed, but that is definitely NOT the case in this story. Sixteen-year-old Jimmy Ellison is training for a steeplechase when he runs into a seven-year-old Blair Sandburg, who is hanging around the stables hoping to learn how to ride. The two strike up an unlikely friendship; adventures ensue, and, of course, Jimmy ends up being heroic and rescuing Blair. Both young Jim and young Blair are written very believeably, and the senses make an early appearance. The real magic of this story, though, I think, is that Starwatcher brings it forward and integrates it seamlessly through the first five episodes of Season One. She creates a very believeable "how they met earlier" backstory that lovingly celebrates the deep and abiding friendship between Jim and Blair.
