11:16 am Titans Go Together by [livejournal.com profile] second_batgirl, PG13
Fandom: DC COMICS
Pairing: Dick/Roy, Tim/Bart, Kon/Cassie. Mentions of Speedy/Aqualad and Starfire/Robin
Length: Around 6000 words
Author on LJ: [livejournal.com profile] second_batgirl
Author Website: her livejournal
Why this must be read: This is beautiful crack but it's also a bit angsty and raw in places. It's a crossover of the Teen Titans cartoon and the comics but it's all DC and it really, really works. The author manages to keep the characters straight (well, not straight straight *g*) and show their personalities unique to either the comic or toon character. And there's Slade...and, well, Slade. There's an interesting plot and lots of character interaction and just a bit of romance. There's also a bit of reference to rape, so if that's triggery, you might want to pass, but I hope you give this a shot because it's just fantastic. I laugh a lot and then I want to cuddle both Robins.

Why this must be read:

We all know that Tony has a smart mouth, and that sometimes it gets him into trouble. Cheekymice gives us a Tony that not only knows this but just can't stop himself even when his mouth is getting him beaten up by the bad guys. Lovely character piece that just screams Tony.

Title: Between the Bars by kiki-miserychic
Musical artist: Chris Garneau
Pairing: Merlin/Arthur
Length: 2:30 minutes
Author on LJ: [livejournal.com profile] kiki_miserychic
Author Website: vid tag
Why this must be watched: I've decided to rec a songvid for crossover day, for one simple reason: it's awesome. It takes the Arthurian myth from so many different sources, and weaves it into something that shines new light not only on Prince Arthur and Merlin in Merlin, but on why this story has endured for so long and still contains so much power.

Fandom: THE MAGNIFICENT SEVEN
Pairing: Ezra/Vin
Length: 9,348 words
Author on LJ: Unknown
Author Website: http://tnf.slashcity.org/viewuser.php?uid=34
Why this must be read: This is an Old West story that is an epilog to "Sins of the Past" It explores just what Vin and Ezra might have done after that episode. I love missing scenes, virtual episodes and that type of thing and this is a good one.

Why this must be read: While there are many excellent modern day AUs, there are also some amazing fics that focus on the actual canon. This piece, which as a Sarah-centric fic is a rarity in fandom, deals with how Sarah was affected by the strike and her encounter with Jack, so many years later. It's an amazing insight into a much-maligned character who doesn't get much attention in fic.

Why this must be read:

I have to dub this the best, bar none, of the Boromir Lives fics that I have read. Most Boromir Lives fics require a significant suspension of disbelief - about the characters, the process of ressurection, or the reaction to it. Not Boromir's Return. Osheen Nevoy leaves me in awe with his wonderful, heart-wrenchingly realistic method of returning Boromir to life, and the human way other characters react to it. The scene where Aragorn, Legolas and Gimli find out is one of the funniest things I think I've read yet.

Boromir's Return has also won awards for it's OC. I've also got to say that the OC, and the way it is worked into the War of the Rings, is absolutely perfect. So don't be afraid - you won't run into any perfect elven ninjas here. I haven't been this happy to meet a new character in fic in years.
