I also wanted to rec a vid that focusses on some later work of Michael Biehn, not just the beginning of his career. And like my other recs I didn't want it to be a vid that uses a lot of his roles (although, if the best tribute vid for him ever was still available on line it would have been the first I recced. But alas....)

Why this vid kicks ass:
I don't think 'kicks ass' is the term I would use here, the vid is just too sunny for that. I'm personally not a fan of Elvis Presley, but the song somehow fits very well with the bright images. I like how you see Michael Biehn as Sean Harrison sort of embedded in between all those colors and images of the island and its people. And how there is a hint of something unfolding near the middle of the vid (watch that black van and Michael getting out), which is finished at the end.

And all in all it's great Michael Biehn eye candy - I'm talking about all those facial expressions of his of course!

Why this must be read:

There's not enough Tony/Rhodey out there, and there's certainly not enough fic that gets Rhodey's POV so well. And this is damn good writing.

They say Jim Rhodes is the only one who can get Tony out of the armor anymore. Jim will be flying Special Ops in The War Machine, handling clashes in Japan, in Nigeria, in France, in Mexico--the meta-wars no one else knows how to police--and he'll get a call from Dum Dum Dugan or Maria Hill.

Report to S.H.I.E.L.D.-tac ASAP, because Director Stark hasn't been seen out of the armor in a week, and for all we know it's on autopilot and there's no one alive in there, is generally the thrust of the message.

Jim hit his limit on babysitting Tony back when iPods were all the rage. It doesn't change the fact that someone has to do it, because who the hell knows what kind of war Tony Stark would get started?

By the time Jim enters American air space, the helicarrier is on maneuvers in the Atlantic and Tony has deployed in the field.

"Nebraska? What the hell is Tony doing in Nebraska?"

"Micromanaging," Hill snaps over the radio.

And isn't that the pot calling the kettle a control freak?

Why this must be read: The most popular pairing in AOGG fandom, outside of the canon pairings, is Anne/Diana. Scads of stories have been written about these two kindred spirits, but Jennifer-Oksana's "To Make Much of Time" really gets to the heart of Anne and Diana. Set in the time frame of Anne of the Island, this is a vignette about a visit to Miss Lavendar Lewis' beloved home in the woods. Anne and Diana are just on the other side of adolescence, a journey that has taken Diana further than Anne in some ways.

There is a deeper melancholy in this story, not unlike L.M. Montgomery's originals, and that's what makes it work so well. You'll find yourself on P.E.I. with Anne and Diana, feeling Anne's grasping for childhood and fantasyland, and Diana's joy at moving beyond it. You can taste the preserves, smell the fire's smoke, and feel the winter chill.

So good you'll wish it kept going, and yet it is very satisfying.

I’ve always liked the last scene in ”Death in a Different Place”, and when I found this fanfic, which is related to that scene, I was thrilled! xD It's just too cute, and if you haven't read it I strongly recommend that you do. =)

Excerpt: “B-but Hutch!” wailed Starsky, aghast. “Didn’t you hear me? I said I love you!”

“I love you, too. Moron.” Hutch adjusted his position, maintaining a firm grip on his friend. His hands and his voice conveyed reassurance and comfort.

Starsky tipped his head back to look at Hutch with a puzzled expression. “Aren’t you worried? I might... uh, attack you, or something.”

Hutch swallowed another laugh. Drugged or not, Starsky was reasonably lucid at the moment and he deserved to be taken seriously. “I want to ask you some questions,” said Hutch. “And you’ve got to answer me honestly, okay?”

“What kind of questions?” asked Starsky.

This is one of the most original post-Cyberwoman AUs that I've read so far. Jack keeps Ianto prisoner in the hub. The "relationship" that develops between the characters here is very believable. This isn't in any way a healthy relationship and [livejournal.com profile] alex51324 doesn't shy away to show us this. In the end there is hope though, even though not everything has healed.

Why this must be read: I had wanted to save this one as the final rec, but I find that I no longer resist the urge to share it with y'all.

Marna wrote a series of letters between the various characters that appear in Anne's story in the novels Rainbow Valley and Rilla of Ingleside, set just prior to and during the early days of World War II. This is an incredible feat - Marna keeps each character as recognizable as possible, and moves through the time with ease. It reads a lot like Anne of Windy Poplars, but deeper, more real.

"The Pen and the Sword" is a beautiful and realistic portrayal of a wretched time in Canadian (and world) history, and Marna shows amazing skill in weaving the familiar world of the Anne books with her knowledge of Canadian history.

This story takes place just after Ianto has been hired. I love Owen here, and his view on Ianto. The characterization is just right for this moment in the time-line. I love how Owen interacts with Ianto, and how they are both just a little bit messed up.

This was the first Ianto/Owen story I read, and it cemented my love for this pairing.

Like all the best AUs, this one immerses the reader in a world entirely divorced from canon, while retaining the characters as themselves. Snape here is the captain of a fishing boat that goes out on the North Sea, obviously a world away from Hogwarts and magic. And yet he and Harry are both still recognizable even in these new circumstances. The progression of their relationship is slow and steady and entirely natural. A most satisfying read.

Why this must be read: When someone models a popslash poem on Longfellow's The Song of Hiawatha, you know it has to be good. And I'm so glad I get to rec this!

This is by far the best ode to popslash I have ever read, perhaps even one of the best poems I've ever read, oddly enough. Pen enshrines in artful language the legend of Chris Kirkpatrick and his sparkly mates, ingenious characterizations and wittiness abound! There are so many lines I wish I could quote from this, but you'll just have to read it!
