03:01 am Beneath the Bitter Snows by Susan (FRT/PG-13)
So sorry I am starting sooo late-I just totally spaced my assignment-but will try to give you a few for your turkey day weekend and to start your Christmas season with.

Fandom: FIREFLY
Pairing: River/Jayne
Length: 2,133
Author on LJ: [livejournal.com profile] apckrfan
Author Website: APCKRFAN's Firefly/Serenity Fanfiction

Why this must be read:

This is a lovely short piece that is just sweet without being overly sappy. River runs across some information on a holiday celebrated on Earth-That-Was and decides to investigate it a little more personally. Just a bit of Valentine's Day fluff.

"I don’t know that you fit the bill of being anyone's sweetie..."

03:53 am When The House Falls Down by Sowell (NC17)
Fandom: NARUTO
Pairing: Naruto/Sasuke
Author on LJ: [livejournal.com profile] sowell
Length: Epic - 14 Chapters + Sequel
Author website: Sowell @LJ
Why this should be read:

[livejournal.com profile] sowell freely admits she was very unhappy with where the manga seemed to be going last year so she wrote this as her response. How I wish she were whispering in Masashi Kishimoto's ear. :) There may be a few spoilers if you haven't kept up but nothing you won't get in most any Naruto Shippuden fic.

When Team Kakashi finally manages to capture their wayward member, Naruto tries to use the team's love (platonic) to convince Sasuke of his rightful place back in Konoha. Can you guess how well that goes over? Full of angst, angst, and even more Sasuke angst, When The House Falls Down takes the reader through the 'Sasuke dilemma' - how to save Sasuke when he doesn't want to be saved?- from Sasuke's POV. It's a delicious take on the Uchiha mind. Very in-character with some delightful insights, [livejournal.com profile] sowell has made me like Sasuke again while reminding me why I liked him originally when he could be such a 'teme'. And as a bonus, she gave us a sequel also. Great author, incredible readability, smooth style, if you have the time I recommend all her fic but especially try

When The House Falls Down &
The Relic

Fandom: FIREFLY
Pairing: River/Jayne
Length: 4,349
Author on LJ: [livejournal.com profile] fabledfigment

Why this must be read:

It sexy and sweet, a believable River/Jayne piece. The voices are honestly just right. Plus anyone that comes with this line is a comic genius;

"The words were soft, but they shocked the stupid out of Jayne."

12:42 pm Lovely Lost Cause by candle_beck (R)
Fandom: BASEBALL RPF
Pairing: Noah Lowry/Barry Zito, unrequited Noah Lowry/Dan Haren
Length: 21,524
Author on LJ: [livejournal.com profile] candle_beck
Author Website: [livejournal.com profile] candle_beck's masterlist
Why this must be read: I'll quote [livejournal.com profile] backcheck on this one: I really love these life trajectories of yours. I love that you can pinpoint the one moment everything began for Lowry, and yeah, after lunch on a beach in SoCal is just as good a setting as any to realize you're in love. Lovely Lost Cause isn't so much a story about relationships as it is about the people who make those relationships: Noah Lowry, Barry Zito, Dan Haren. This story is rich and character driven, and sucks you in, as does most of [livejournal.com profile] candle_beck's work. She's written other things that might be better known, such as Undercurrent and the How To series and Rest of Your Life, but Lovely Lost Cause is what one might consider a hidden gem, a story by a supremely talented author that shouldn't be missed.
