12:50 pm Kinesthesia by Amy (NC-17)
Fandom: THE X-FILES
Pairing: Mulder/Scully
Length: 223K
Author on LJ: none that I am aware of
Author Website: The Mystic Mulder Ranch and at Gossamer under Amy and Spookey247. Note the "e" in Spookey247. Somehow it got left out of her name when the site was moved.
Why this must be read: A few months ago, I was complaining to a friend about how many bad undercover stories were written for The X-Files fandom. She suggested I give this one a chance, and as always, she was right: "Kinesthesia" is a terrific undercover story. It has a huge cast of interesting, original characters, plot twists that I couldn't see coming, and post FTF/early season six Mulder/Scully romance.

This link is to her old site, now on reocities, because the print is bigger.

01:01 pm Keeper by Hawk (NC17)
Fandom: NCIS
Pairing: Tony/Gibbs (other pairings throughout)
Length: 347,643
Author on LJ: [livejournal.com profile] hawk_soaring
Author Website: Squidge Author Page
Warnings: Please read header information on top of fic for warnings as this contains slavery and non-con among other things...

Why this must be read:

I have a thing for slave fics. It started with the NCIS fandom (I think) and then I expanded from there into other genres, including original fics. Then [livejournal.com profile] hawk_soaring started posting Keeper as her 2007 Nano entry. Every day from November 2007 until September 2008, she would add a new part to Keeper. I found myself staying up until the next part was posted in order to read it.

The story starts pre-series in an AU world where slavery has been adopted, both consensual slavery and what is known as convict slavery. In this, Tony's father is the ultimate bad guy. I found myself wanting to do very dark things to Tony's father through this story. It is a very emotional story because of how far she takes the characters through the ringer. I cried many times while reading. I also abused my 'Tony needs a hug' icon a lot during the fic. It is extremely long, but well worth the read. She also has a sequel that is currently in zine form...

03:00 pm Flipping With A Coin That’s Got A Tail On Either Side by Lady Paperclip (PG-13)
Fandom: TORCHWOOD
Pairing: Owen & Martha
Length: ~2500 words.
Author on LJ: [livejournal.com profile] paperclipbitch
Author Website: LJ Masterlists
Why this must be read:

This is a funny and bittersweet story about Owen and Martha's post-'Dead Man Walking' friendship, told in several phonecalls.

Excerpt: "What are you having for breakfast?" he asks, possibly with a little too much longing interest.

He can hear Martha chewing before she answers. "Is this going to become the equivalent of
what colour knickers do you have on?"

Owen grins, but puts on an offended tone. "I am
shocked at you, Miss Jones. Would I ever ask you that?"

"Maybe once upon a time…" Martha suggests.

"Well," Owen replies, "Sadly, I’m far more interested in your breakfast than your knickers these days."

03:56 pm A Short History of Almost Nothing by eudaimon (PG-13)
Fandom: BAND OF BROTHERS
Pairing: Liebgott/Webster
Length: 5,028
Author on LJ: [livejournal.com profile] eudaimon
Author Website: Masterlist (incomplete)
Why this must be read:

Because [livejournal.com profile] eudaimon writes such a great characterization of Joe Liebgott, and this piece will just break your heart with its portrayal of picking up the pieces and life after the war. This author knows her characters and the intimacy of some of the scenes with Webster and the Liebgott family really touched me, creating a poignant piece that everyone should read.

09:52 pm Me On My Way Back To You (Paralyzer), by Plasticeneposes (NC17)
Fandom: Canadian Actor RPF
Pairing: Callum Keith Rennie/Katee Sackhoff/Michael Trucco
Length: 1,913
Author on LJ:[livejournal.com profile] plasticeneposes
Author Website: LJ
Why this must be read: because it's Callum, Katee and Michael, and Callum's playing the top. Because it's a threesome up-against-a-wall and it's hot. 'Nuff said.

A brief taste of Plasticeneposes' genius... )

09:58 pm Guides by Dolimir (R)

Since I'll be out of town this weekend, this'll be my last rec this month. It's been a bit of a bumpy ride, but hopefully someone got some enjoyment out of it. I look forward to another month some time!

Fandom: THE SENTINEL
Pairing: Jim/Blair
Length: 4,377 words
Author on LJ: [livejournal.com profile] dolimir_k
Author Website: 852 Prospect (just do a search for author: Dolimir)
Why this must be read:

This is a fascinating ramble through Jim's thoughts and conclusions on Guides. Dolimir does a wonderful job on explaining how Jim comes to realize the importance of what a Guide is and how they are as individual as Sentinels. Through a rescue of a Mafia boss' Guide, Jim comes to ultimately realize the effect meeting him has had on Blair and his life. The circumstances that brought Blair to meet Jim and "bond" with him has decided his path as Jim's partner in Major Crimes and in his life. Throughout the narrative, Dolimir does a very intriguing tying in with events from the TV series that illustrates her/Jim's take on Guides. And it fits oh so well! After reading this, I found myself rethinking about the series in a totally different light in regards to Blair's roll in it.

So for a last rec this month, I leave you with a very well-written and thoughtful look at Guides, the other half of the Sentinel partnership. Enjoy!
