Fandom: STARSKY & HUTCH/Terry Pratchett Pairing: none Length: 11K Author on LJ: silver_chipmunkAuthor Website: HEREWhy this must be read: because it’s sad and funny, because it’s canon and supernatural. Because love conquers death. Starsky waved it aside as of no importance. "Well that doesn't matter anyway. I'm not letting you take Hutch."
"I DON'T THINK YOU CAN STOP ME."
"Hey, I know the rules. If I can see you, I can negotiate with you. That's the way it always works."
"WHAT, IN ALL THOSE OLD MOVIES YOU WATCH? WHAT MAKES YOU THINK IT REALLY WORKS THAT WAY?"
"I'm just betting it does. So how about it? You take me and let him go, how about that? I cheated you once by living, you have to want me back, right?" He had been willing to die for Hutch before, this was no different.
"NOT REALLY. I HAVE LEARNED, YOU HUMANS CAN ONLY CHEAT ME FOR SO LONG. EVENTUALLY I WILL COME TO ALL OF YOU. BESIDES, HE ALREADY MADE THAT BARGAIN. YOU CAN'T MAKE IT BACK." Starsky Enforces His Law by Silver Chipmunk (PG)

Last one for this month. If you want to drive, go here. See ya. :) Fandom: STARSKY & HUTCH Pairing: none Length: short Author on LJ: jojosimcoAuthor Website: HEREWhy this must be read: because I love post-SR Hutch-angst stories. And I love when it’s not as easy as we wish it was. This one is definitely NOT easy and it’s not all Starsky's fault :) "I never saw it from this angle," Starsky said. "From your angle." He glanced sideways. "Thought I'd just look."
"Can we go?" Hutch said. "I mean, I mean... can we just go now?"
"I feel like I should know this place."
"Well it isn't so great," Hutch said, "and believe me, I don't need to commit it to memory anymore. So would you come on already?"
Starsky grinned faintly. "Alright, I'm coming. Just need to make one more stop."
"What, the OR?" Hutch snarled. He didn't even know he had such a deep well of sarcasm in him. It tasted bad and he wished it would go away.
"Hey, I died in here, you know. It has significance."
"OK, fine. You died. But now you're going to live... with me. Until I kill you." CONTINUUM by JoJo (PG-13)

I had a blast driving the van this month! Since my previous rec was rather intense, I saved the fic that never fails to make me smile for the last day. Fandom: THE X-FILES Pairing: Mulder/Scully Length: Short one-shot Author on LJ: jlmfromnycAuthor Website: Fic Index (incomplete) Why this must be read:Unofficial JL Appreciation Month concludes with this little fic, which is simply put, funny as hell, not to mention smart and sweet and beautifully written. I'd quote my favorite lines, but there's way too many of them. This story is the reason I snicker to myself when eating at IHOP. A Special Occasion

Fandom: FIREFLY Pairing: Mal/Simon Length: about 6,117 words Author on LJ: wildannuetteAuthor Website: just her lj Why this must be read: Three long years after leaving Serenity, Simon returns, stirring up a lot of buried emotions in the process. I like that this story surprises me, and doesn't go to the places I expect. I like how it blends tones deftly, sliding effortlessly from grave to lighthearted to romantic. I like the voices and the repartee, and I especially like Mal's slightly cranky and bitter inner voice; that reads as wonderfully in character to me. Most of all, though, I like the way I feel at the end---about which I cannot say more without giving too much away. ( read an excerpt )Yesterday Is the Only Place We’ll Ever Go

Fandom: ANGEL: THE SERIES Pairing: Wesley/Gunn Length: 5,510 words Author on LJ: wolflingAuthor Website: Wolfling's LairWhy this must be read: In this AU, after Wesley steals Connor and has his subsequent falling out with Angel, Gunn tries to make sense of it all. This story has some truly lovely characterizations, and excellently insightful observations about the motivations of both characters. The complex, intense, and sometimes screwed up dynamic that these two had developed by this point in canon is beautifully rendered here---and wonderfully, skillfully untangled in a way that makes emotional and logical sense and is perfectly satisfying. The difficulties in this pairing are not glossed over here, but carefully dealt with in ways that feel real and plausible. ( read an excerpt ) Shattered Image
