07:44 pm Dr Who Season Five by Aria (PG-13)
Fandom: DOCTOR WHO
Pairing:  Doctor/Master, Martha/Tom, Donna, Jenny
Length:  13 episodes
Author on LJ: [livejournal.com profile] ariastar
Author Website: [livejournal.com profile] ariafic
Why this must be read:

Aria writes the best AU/fixits ever.  She really, really does.  A while back her Alternate Season 4 was recced, and quite deservedly so.  This is not a continuation of that series; this is an alternate season five, picking up from the actual canonical season 4.  Aria takes the problematic things from the end of that series (such as the horrible choice to wipe Donna's memory and undo all of the growth she had as a person during her time with the Doctor).  Then she adds the Master.  And puts them all together in a well-written, exciting, timey-wimey story that is actually much better than the four specials we got in lieu of a proper season 5.

An alternate Doctor Who season five. In which Donna Noble rediscovers herself, Torchwood finds all sorts of useful technology, the Doctor and the Master just can't get rid of each other, the past doesn't stay where it should, and Time starts to heal.

07:45 pm Immersion by Fluterbev (R (Gen) / NC-17 (Slash))
Fandom: THE SENTINEL
Pairing: Jim/Blair
Length: Long - Posted to LJ in 6 or 7 parts (Depending on which version you choose)
Author on LJ: [personal profile] fluterbev_fic
Author Website: http://fluterbev-fic.livejournal.com/
Why this must be read:

Fluterbev has crafted an intriguing look into what could happen if Alex got loose. In this story Naomi is strong and determined (my favorite incarnation of her), Alex is evil, Jim is unstoppable at his stoic best, and Blair while in danger once again is trying to help himself.

Add in chase through the jungle and the mysticism of Sentinels and this is an exceptional story. Besides the novelty of choosing whether to read it as Gen or Slash is just too much fun. (See the authors description at the beginning of the Slash version for the differences between the two stories.)

And now we’ve arrived at the first comm I ever posted in, [livejournal.com profile] ds_flashfiction. It’s a fabulous challenge comm that I can’t rec highly enough. There are hundreds and hundreds of terrific stories, easily found either by tag or in memories.

Fandom: DUE SOUTH
Pairing: None
Length: 1200 words
Author on LJ: alas, teaphile is no longer on LJ (at least under that name)
Author Website: unknown
Why this must be read:

This is one of my favorite fics from this comm EVER, and considering it’s gen, that’s saying a lot. It’s from the Fraser Fucked Up challenge, and has RayK telling a group of schoolchildren what being a real cop is like.

Fandom: DUE SOUTH
Pairing: Fraser/Kowalski
Length: 3800 words
Author on LJ: [livejournal.com profile] nos4a2no9
Author Website: fic here
Why this must be read:

One more from [livejournal.com profile] ds_flashfiction (but we’ll stop back here on crossover day), this one from one of the two matches (Reality v Whimsy and Angst v Romance) they’ve done. Both matches were full of amazing fic, and it was hard to pick just one to rec. In the end, I chose this beautiful fic from Team Reality.

It’s kidfic (which I adore), but not, in that it isn’t cutesy or full of awwwwww moments. It’s Fraser and Ray still together after seventeen years. It’s Ray reflecting on his life with Fraser, fatherhood, and the inevitability of growing up. Bittersweet and full of quiet contentment, this really spoke to the parent in me. And I hope I can meet my childrens’ move to adulthood with as much grace and understanding.

and so it begins… )
