01:02 am Classic, in Progress by [livejournal.com profile] tzikeh
Hi everyone, I'm Reesa, and I'm driving the White Collar van this month. Sorry about missing a few days- I got held up by some sort of manhunt. Roadblocks and wanted posters everywhere. I tend towards the OT3 of Peter/Elizabeth/Neal, but I also read gen and het, so I think I've got a relatively decent set of stories to throw at you this month. Sit back, put your feet up, and try to ignore the smell. We really should get one of those little pine tree air fresheners in here...

Fandom: WHITE COLLAR
Pairing: No official pairing, Neal, Peter, Elizabeth friendship. But it's a close friendship.
Length: 1400 words
Author on LJ: [livejournal.com profile] tzikeh
Author Website: N/A as far as I can tell

Why this must be read:
If there is one thing about White Collar that most people immediately recognize, it's Neal's sense of style. If there's one thing about Peter Burke's appearance that people might notice, it's his ass his fondness for the things he already has. This is a short fic that manages to capture Peter's reluctance to change the things that have always worked for him, Neal's teasing and real respect for the man that Peter is, and Elizabeth's fond acceptance of Peter's quirks, which doesn't stop her from plotting with Neal. Also, it's about FORMAL WEAR, and there is nothing wrong with a man in a tuxedo. It's tagged gen, and there is no explicit content or romantic element in the forefront (other than Peter and El, who have a lovely marriage), but to me it easily reads as some pretty awesome flirting between the three of them.

01:35 am Reflections by ksl (PG-13 – mention of slash pairing but no details)
Fandom: NCIS/Houston Knights
Pairing: No NCIS pairings
Length: 83693
Author on LJ: Unknown
Author Website: http://www.geocities.com/kslmag7
Why this must be read:

I know that crossover day is the 15th, but quite frankly I have several crossovers I’ve grown to love. This is a gen story for NCIS, the slash pairing is in Houston Knights. I have never seen the show and this was my first introduction to the fan base but I enjoyed it. You do NOT need to know Houston Knights to read the story. I thought Tony was badly treated there for a while in NCIS and I enjoyed this AU story of how he might have reacted. I think it is a very believable alternative to the track the show took. I think it’s a darn good story by a good writer.

I love Tony's point of view all through this story, especially when he is interacting with the Houston police. His ruminations about the people there are fascinating. (trying hard to explain things without giving it all away.) Gibbs and Tony are good friends in this story but it is not NCIS slash and while part of me is sorry (I like a good slash story) the story works better this way. It has a good plot.

Author notes: This story is a cross over with a short lived cop show from the late 80's...Houston Knights. The main characters from that show, Joe and Levon, I've given an established slash relationship. Rating also reflects the use of curse words.

Reflections

The sequel is not necessary to complete the story but is also a good read: Mirror Image

07:56 am An Ugly Habit by Serrico (G)
Fandom: BURN NOTICE
Pairing: Madeline/Frank Westen
Length: 1000K
Author on LJ: [livejournal.com profile] serrico
Author Website: dreamwidth archive

Why this must be read:
Because it's Maddy! \0/ Better it's well written Maddy. Serrico provides an excellent examination of Maddy at different points in her life, and the conclusion of the story, especially for those familiar with later seasons, is a real punch in the gut.

No excerpt this time because full appreciation requires reading all at once, IMO. But trust me, if there's one fic you read this month, let it be this one!

03:08 pm Slow Sunday by Mikhale (PG-13)
Fandom: CW RPF
Pairing: Jared Padalecki/Jensen Ackles
Length: ~1,600
Author on LJ: [livejournal.com profile] mikhale
Author Website: Tags

This is a lovely fic that explores quieter moments with the boys. There's cooking, Scrabble, and Jensen taking care of Harley and Sadie. Sweet, but not saccharine.

09:18 pm A Moment of Our Silence by Keelywolfe (NC17)
Fandom: STAR TREK: REBOOT
Pairing: (Kirk/Spock)
Length: (3,423 Words)
Author on LJ:[livejournal.com profile] keelywolfe
Author Website: Keelywolfe's Fanfiction
Why this must be read:

Reboot Kirk and Spock are like planets colliding sometimes. Their meeting at Starfleet Academy in the aftermath of Nero is no different.

This one's a little bit raw, a little bit harsh. But then, heroes coming home to an empty house, as it were, is pretty harsh.

Summary: The return to 'Fleet Academy is difficult with so many missing. Kirk seeks to fill the silence any way he can. He's surprised that Spock does too.

People deal with grief and loss in different ways. This is how they do it.

09:49 pm The Boy who Killed Time by netgirl_y2k (PG)
Fandom: DOCTOR WHO
Pairing: Gen; Martha Jones, Tenth Doctor, others
Length: 1,354
Author on LJ: [Bad username or site: @ livejournal.com]
Author Website: Memories
Why this must be read:

This piece is spooky. The idea that no one who has ever lived on the TARDIS never really leaves is just fascinating to me. Martha's curiosity and questions about these ghosts, as well as the Doctor's inability to admit that anything is wrong until it's much too late was very much in character for both of them. The author does an excellent job interweaving all these past companions into the story; a wonderful mix of New and Classic Who.

There are ghosts in the TARDIS, they walk through walls and through people, silently carrying on long forgotten conversations. They don't bother Martha, sometimes she even talks to them. Then they begin to talk back.

10:36 pm Something Primal by luchia13 (R)
Fandom: SUPERNATURAL
Pairing: gen (Dean, Sam, Castiel) - no pairings, but gore/violence (read story warnings)
Length: ~ 11,000 words
Author on LJ: [livejournal.com profile] luchia13
Author Website: Ultimate Master List of Doom
Why this must be read: Four words: Castiel. Is. A. Dinosaur.

Author Summary: "Castiel turns himself into a dinosaur to save the Winchesters from an escaped zoo of demonic animals and save a seal (66, not an animal) in the process. And then things get weird."

This should be read because it is the very best kind of crack available. An absurd, but entirely plausible SPN plot; Sam and Dean, in character, being awesome while fighting for their lives; demonic animals (including a panda, a rhino, and a cobra) fighting an angelic dinosaur who may have imprinted - just a little - on Dean. It's a must-read season 4 style case fic.

It’s a comfortable four in the afternoon when the dinosaur appears in front of Dean’s bed. )
