I had to cut the title because of the subject line character limit. The full title is, More Than Just A Pretty Face (or 5 Superior Officers That Didn't Lay Kirk and One Crew Member That Did). The officer segments are fantastic. They experience angst, amusement, anger or admiration and a bit of wistfulnnes when it comes to Kirk. This fic is truly, truly, unique and wonderfull and perhaps a bit overlooked. The officers' observations made this a win for me and can stand on their on without the "One" segment, imho. In fact, if you're not a K/S shipper you can read all the officer bits and stop at the end of Part 1 because the final segement is all of Part 2 (but I do recommend finishing the whole story!) Summary: Five 'Fleet officers ruminate about their encounters with the ever alluring, ever aggravating James Tiberius Kirk. Who always leaves an impression - one way or another. Personally, I like the exercise because it allows ficcers to link many 'snapshot' pieces under a similar theme without needing to write a long piece; sometimes the muses don't stay for long, or the plot bunnies are too many to properly feed any of them. Whatever the reason, Five Things (and related memes) can be delightful to read, when done right. The series I'm recommend today is one of those. Some pieces I've enjoyed more than others, but all of them have left me with a smile afterward, which is welcome after reading a few too many h/c-angst-drama stories in this fandom. Furthermore, Hagar's style leaves me thinking about what's not shown, about the backstage stories, and at the same time it makes the characters more real for me.
