The characterization and voice are simply exquisite for Jayne, though also really excellent for River. This story is short, but packed to the very corners with emotion and world-building and character insights. I especially love the way missmollyetc handles Jayne's reaction to Wash's death and River's presence; it's very subtly and deftly done, but so much of who Jayne is and how he feels about both of these people and the world in general is evident in his actions and reactions here. I should say my rec choices reflect my tastes. My favourite pairing is Nite Owl II/Rorschach (or Dan/Walter); it is a very popular pairing in the fandom, however, it isn't by far the only popular pairing! Watchmen fic writers have drawn from the full cast of Minutemen and Watchmen characters to pick from and rare pairs are welcome too. The other reccers to come are likely to rec the other pairings, but, if you can't wait, pm me! I also tend to savor the relationship and character-driven aspects of both slash and gen alike--but the porn should be represented, I do have porn favorites, and this is one of them:

Author on LJ: cyus / cruentumAuthor Website: LJ Fiction Index / cruentum on AO3Why this must be read:This is a CoE fix-it where Ianto doesn't die in Thames House, but it's not a feel-good AU. The story keeps to the themes of the original canon, and leaves us with an ending that's just as grim, but just a bit more open and hopeful than the original. The Ianto of this story, as shown through flashbacks, is the shop-lifting, head-butting, working-class boy from the wrong side of town, who twenty years earlier would have been in that 10%, and the choices he makes here are consistent with that history, and very much in character. So, yes, things go differently, and better in many ways, and while the ending is bleak, it isn't totally dark, and the possibility of future happiness is left open, which is all I ask from a good fix-it. Fandom: THE MAGNIFICENT SEVEN Pairing: Josiah/Ezra Length: 1, 598 words Author on LJ: atdelphi Author Website: singing the body electricWhy this must be read: Oh, because while Chris and Vin somehow lend themselves to being a dreamy, epic kind of a pairing, Ezra and Josiah are a classic "this shouldn't be" sort of a couple. And delphi always beautifully reflects this, never more so than through Ezra's thought processes in this atmospheric and wonderfully wicked short story. Well, there had to be good reasons why Josiah was de-frocked... and a propensity for sinning in church might be one. Please note that Penitence and a cold shower may be needed after reading. Ezra opens his mouth for words that won't come; something twists in his stomach as Josiah smiles that fierce smile of his and shakes his head slowly, incredulously, his thoughts his own.Going to Church | | |

Fandom: STARGATE ATLANTIS Pairing: Sheppard/McKay Length: ~ 6490 words Author on LJ: taste_is_sweetAuthor Website: Leah's Stories on WraithbaitWhy this must be read: Amnesia Fic #4. One of the awesome things about amnesia stories is that every single one's a little different. I love this particular story because it's just so sweet. In the previous rec, John remembers everyone except Rodney. In Leah's story, the opposite happens - Rodney is the only one who seems familiar, and John takes comfort in that. More comfort than Rodney's initially ... well, comfortable with, but only because he's trying to protect John (and his career) from himself. This is also one of the few stories where the amnesia doesn't disappear as part of the story resolution, and yet, there's a happy ending anyway. I promise it'll make you smile.
