Fandom: RIPTIDE Pairing: Nick Ryder/Cody Allen Length: 17,000 words Author on LJ: oddmonsterAuthor Website: The Riptide Asylum (on livejournal) Why this must be read:Oddmonster is one of my favorite writers in this fandom. She gets the voices of the boys just *so*, and infuses her fics with an awesome yearning quality that perfectly sums up what we see between them in the canon. This story is a perfect example. Gray. Safelike. is a case-fic that could have been pulled straight from the show's script - well, apart from the slash :) It's a pre-slash-to-slash, hurt/comfort fic that deals with Nick's yearning for Cody, his best and closest friend. As they solve the case, the guys protect each other as always, until Nick realizes, with a little help from Murray and the Roboz, that the time has come to speak up. The story is sweet, sad, poignant and joyful by turns, and in Oddmonster's inimitable way, there's *plenty* of action. There's one moment that brings a tear to my eye no matter how often I read it. She nails the love between these boys perfectly, and I can never recommend this story enough. ( Excerpt under the cut )Gray. Safelike. Part OneGray. Safelike. Part TwoGray. Safelike. Part ThreeGray. Fandom: HITCHHIKER'S GUIDE TO THE GALAXY; DOCTOR WHO Pairing: Gen Length: 600 Author on LJ: unknown Author Website: their AO3 pageWhy this must be read:Many regard the Guideverse to be part of the extended Whoniverse WSOGMM (whole sort of general mishmash). This is not because the creator of the one wrote for the other (which he did), or even because both tend to lend themselves to crossovers very easily (which they do). This is because, while not necessarily to the extent of Torchwood, they are part of the same universe in a way. Not only can the Doctor be seen reading one of Oolon Colluphid’s books in one episode, but he even at one point claims to know Arthur Dent, calling him a ‘nice man.’ References to the Doctor show up in Guidefic almost as often as references to towels or Janx Spirit, but AstroGirl has taken it all one step further. Her simple Guide entry details this strange Doctor person, towels, sonic screwdrivers, and very confused hitchhikers, and why they all have something in common. Fandom: THE BIG BANG THEORY Pairing: Sheldon/Penny Length: 5k Author on LJ: booniesAuthor Website: Fic PostWhy this must be read: boonies is one of the first writers I read when I came to the show and began trawling through the archives from this fandom, and this one in particular will always stick with me because while the concept is a good old comedic staple (amnesia!fic), the execution is a joy from start to finish. When Penny wakes up one day with the belief that Sheldon's her boyfriend, his instinctive failsafe solution of breaking up with her proves impossible to accomplish, as each time it happens they are forced to relive the whole day again. There is much fun to be had from this, with a wonderfully in-character POV from Sheldon, and some clever interaction from the guys along the way. ( an excerpt )The Groundhog Day Assimilation

Fandom: WAREHOUSE 13/HETALIA: AXIS POWERS Pairing: Gen Claudia, Artie, Alfred F. Jones Length: 1066 Author on LJ: archangelunmei Why this must be read: Hetalia: Axis Powers is a Japanese? Manga/Anime/Movie where the main characters are anthropomorphic representations of countries. For more info click the link above. :) Frankly I'm surprised there aren't more cross overs between these two shows. They practically beg to be mixed. Even Anthropomorphic Countries need somewhere to store their centuries of crap. People might get a bit suspicious otherwise. Archangel does a terrific job of meshing these two shows together. The characters stay true to their own shows while mixing together to create a totally new reality that is just perfect. For a bit of reference here is a picture of America. Summary: While doing inventory in the Warehouse, Claudia comes across a box that doesn't seem to be recorded anywhere. It looks less like an Artifact and more like the contents of someone's junk drawer.Artifact by ArchangelUnmei (Archive of our Own) (Livejournal)

Fandom: The Losers Pairing: Gen, but with elements of Pooch/Jolene and Cougar/Jensen Length: 1020 words Author on LJ: storm_petrel, but primarily storm_petrelAuthor Website: AO3Why this must be read:The team have a great many tattoos. It's the kind of thing we notice, from Jensen's bull on his arm to Clay's teddy bear head in the soft skin between his fingers and thumb. And what's great about a tattoo is that, no matter what it's of, that tattoo will have a story behind it. This story is a collection of vignettes, the briefest of descriptions of the tattoos the Losers have. And, in those descriptions, and their reasons for getting them, you see into their lives, their histories, their souls. From Clay's drunken maple leaf to the "CA" on Jensen's back, their tattoos are a part of them as they are part of their skins, and Storm Petrel nails each character with such insight that you'll feel like you know them too. Excerpt:5. Pooch has Jolene’s name in discreet dark ink where his wedding band should sit. He got that tattoo a week before he proposed, so he was pretty goddamned relieved when she said yes. On missions, on the run, every night before he goes to sleep, he presses his thumb against it, for comfort and for luck.17 Tattoos

Fandom: THE WEST WING Pairing: Josh/Donna Length: 1,071 Author on LJ: [Bad username or site: @ livejournal.com]Author Website: Fic Journal at DreamwidthWhy this must be read:Because this piece is awesome with its one-liners and musings about the ethical treatment of zombies. Josh and Donna's banter is just spot on and the rest of the ensemble cast also have their shining moments in this hilarious one-shot. "Is this in the constitution?" Toby asked, as they all pelted hell for leather through the communications bullpen.
Josh didn't answer, mainly because he was still reeling from seeing Donna dispatch a zombie using nothing but her plastic salad fork.
"I mean," Toby continued as they reached the counsels offices, "can you have a president removed from office for being undead."The Great Zombie Invasion of 2001
