10:47 am Beverages by Tangles (PG-13)
Fandom: HITCHHIKER'S GUIDE TO THE GALAXY
Pairing: Ford/Arthur, if you really pay attention
Length: 1800
Author on LJ: [livejournal.com profile] entangled_now
Author Website: [livejournal.com profile] libraryofsol
Why this must be read:

Beverages is the rare sort of Arthur/Ford slashfic that I can really enjoy. Loaded with some quite wonderful Ford double-talk and even more wonderful Arthur brand of complete denseness, it takes a harmless conversation about coffee and turns it into something else entirely.

Meanwhile, Arthur completely misses the point.

Why this must be read:

Because it’s damn good smut! And I happen to be very picky about my smut. Not just any smut will do. If you’re new to Hot Fuzz, I must tell you that there is a lot of slash. This particular fandom was never shy about the film’s homoerotic subtext. Hell, the film is the very first Nicholas/Danny story there is. Even the director says it’s a love story.

Excerpt:

Inside the cubicle, Nicholas frowned. “I can’t trust you not to be inappropriate regardless of what I’m doing. Why do you think I demanded we go all the way to Cheltenham?”

“I assumed it was so there’d be none of my family around when we eventually got to the hot dressing room action.”

“Danny. There will be no dressing room action. I forbid it.”

Why this must be read:

Dear God, the laughter this inspires! This is a pre-series look into the life of Eric Northman's lawyer before vampires "come out of the coffin", and the headaches therein.

Summary

Life should have a warning about answering a vampire's Craig's List ad... then again she is a lawyer.

Fandom: SHERLOCK
Pairing: Sherlock Holmes/John Watson
Length: 3,000 words

Why this must be read:
Sometimes, fanfic shows you kinks you didn't even know you had. Other times, a story is just so compellingly written that something that doesn't usually turn your crank really does. This story is one such fic, mainly because of how well the author writes John's thoughts (those psychological undercurrents of the two characters in the story). The story starts off with the duo doing their thing, solving crime, and then Sherlock asks John to pose like a dead body. Things happen from there.

I highly recommend this story not because of the hotness (although there is that), but for the exploration of the character's psyche.

07:58 pm I, The Endless Sky by Lady Krysis (PG-13)
Fandom: The Losers
Pairing: None
Length: 465 words
Author: Lady Krysis
Website: Dreamwidth / AO3
Why this must be read:

Aisha can be difficult to write - it can be hard to get into her head, to figure out why she does what she does. Is she really going to kill Clay? Does she really want her revenge? Why would she bet on Petunias soccer games and cheer the birth of Pooch's son if she's focused purely on revenge?

It's a little more clear-cut for comics, but it can still be difficult to work her out.

A few authors in the fandom have nailed her though, and [personal profile] lady_krysis is definitely one of those.

She's righteous, she's furious, she's sweet revenge and bitter rage. And in this short story, three scenes of revelation and mourning, you get the sharpness, the beauty, the gloriousness of Aisha.

Excerpt:

Clay is the weapon that Max pointed at her father. The team itself is a weapon, seamless, precise, and Max carelessly discarded them. While Aisha wants to leave them rotting in graves, she doesn't make the same mistake Max did. She reassembles them and gives them a new target.

As part of small fandom month, [livejournal.com profile] storyfan and I, [livejournal.com profile] ajs_bunny will be taking you on a hansom cab ride through the end of Victorian London into Edwardian England with the man who has been hailed as "a dangerous bat, a brilliant field, and perhaps the very finest slow bowler of his decade."

Sherlock Holmes?

Think again!
