Fandom: HITCHHIKER'S GUIDE TO THE GALAXY Pairing:Gen Length: 1000 Author on LJ: daegaerAuthor Website: their AO3 pageWhy this must be read:I adore Ford Prefect. While Geoffrey McGivern will always be my Ford, any version of him will probably always be up there, fighting for the spot of Zed’s favourite character. This lovely little piece has Ford, Arthur, and Martin Bloody Smith from Croydon talking about the rather painful topic of what they wanted to be when they grew up. While it’s a fairly boring and bland topic for the Earthmen, the homesick Betelgeusian has some fairly understandable difficulty handling it. It’s a very touching little piece, and shows a rather softer side of Ford that doesn’t come out very often. Childhood Dreams

Fandom: PRIMEVAL Pairing:Connor/Ryan Length: 3,000 Author on LJ: deinonychus_1 Author Website: Author’s masterlist here. Why this must be read:Although the creators of the show have only made very limited use of timeline changes, fanfic authors don’t bind themselves with the same constraints and this is an excellent example of timey-wimeyness. Captain Ryan made a huge impact on a large number of fans who prefer him alive and well in fic, preferably as often as possible. He’s also quite regularly paired with Connor and this story combines angst and hope into a seamless whole. The story is here...

Fandom: GENERATION KILL Pairing: Brad Colbert/Nate Fick Length: ~ 4,040 words Author on LJ: kanekoAuthor websites: Why this must be read: kaneko wrote one of my favorite Torchwood stories, so when I found this story I read it even though I didn't really knew anything about this fandom other than it was about a bunch of marines and Iraq. And I fell in love with those characters. So richly drawn, it was easy for me to see them in front of my eyes. Having watched the series now, I can only comment how close these characters are to canon. I loved the sparse writing style, how their emotions shined through, how they communicate not only in words. Love how this seems so real. After That

Fandom: WAREHOUSE 13 Pairing: Artie/Claudia Friendship. Length: 1800 Author on LJ: cypanache Why this must be read:To Claudia a Farnsworth means family. Excerpt: The thing about having a Farnsworth is it works both ways. Means that with the flip of the cover, the press of a switch she can be connected, can reach out wherever she is and they’ll hear her—this makeshift, patchwork family of crazy-brave, perfectly imperfect screw-balls. They’ll hear her and they’ll answer. Her family. Hers. I'll keep you in my pocket by Cypanache

Fandom: The Losers Pairing: None Length: 1112 Author on LJ: otherpervertAuthor's Website: Find everything at oohshashaWhy this must be read:You don't have to have seen Ninja Warrior/ Sasuke to understand this story, because while it's about Jensen climbing Mount Midoriyama, it's less about the actual obstacle course and more about Jensen. It's about childhood dreams, and how you often find out they're not what you expected, or dreamed, but, sometimes - only sometimes and only with certain people - you can still live out your dream. It makes me smile, every time I think of Jensen at the top, standing over the obstacle course, knowing that, if nothing else goes right in his life, that he's conquered this. Excerpt:That's when he feels Clay move up behind him, rock-steady Clay. Clay who laughs at all the nerdy things Jensen has to do - there is no choice here. He feels a large hand rest on the center of his back for a moment, pressing between his shoulderblades. Then Clay lifts it and thumps it heavily back down - it stings and aches, it's shades of Nagano and Takeda, and it's awesome beyond words.Total Victory

Fandom: CHUCK Pairing: none (Anna, Chuck, ensemble) Length: ~1300 words Author on LJ: omfgshAuthor Website: writing journal: killthefreshmenWhy this must be read: Dude, because it's about Anna! Saving the world! A lot, even. More seriously, we all knew that Anna could be a spy, or possibly become one, and there has been a handful of fic written on that. I like this one best, because it focuses on Anna rather than Anna/Morgan (and I'm just a gen girl at heart), because this Anna's voice is pitch-perfect, except here she's a spy and she kicks ass. I would worry if Sarah and Anna had to face off. I really would. And not about Anna. Here's the thing: Anna Wu is not just a computer nerd. God, no. Do you think she'd work at the Buy More voluntarily?
(She would, actually, because it makes her parents mad. But that's not the point.)Anna saves the world. A lot.
