Hello! I'm birggitt, and I'll be driving the Van this month and offering you stories that I feel are great and deserve to be read once and again.

And, for my first rec, we have a Lacey McBain's story. Why? Well, this is a Lacey McBain's story, which means the writing is accurate and beautiful, and the character's voices are spot-on. And the story itself has most of my favorite things: it's a first time story, angsty and filled with hurt/comfort.
The mission ended, and not in the best of the ways. Doyle is hurt, emotionally hurt, and Bodie tries to reach him, to help his partner. But we all know how Ray Doyle is, don't we?
As the story progress, we learn what happened, why Ray feel that it was his failure; emotions and feelings are shown. Raw, maybe dangerous, but real.

Why this must be read: - In a world where sentinels are known but there are no guides, one is found in cryogenic sleep. What lucky sentinel will he be assigned to help? Two possible candidates have been chosen, and neither wants to be the loser.

Ysone tells a good and interesting story here. Much of it involves the problems of someone being revived from a cryogenic sleep that has lasted for a century, and much of it the problems of sentinels who are forced to rely on suppressant drugs to keep them functioning. There's not too much detail given about the new, future world, but what there is is convincing. I'd like to see more stories set in this universe.

Why this must be read:  torch is a wonderful storyteller. This is a first time with plot, an AU in which Qui-Gon did not take Obi-Wan as his apprentice. When they meet again, Obi-Wan is a knight and discovers the long missing Qui-Gon Jinn living on Tatooine as slave of the Hutt.

Obi-Wan breathed deeply and kept his thoughts to himself, inside his head and off his face. His mind teemed with questions. He had last seen Qui-Gon on Bandomeer, fifteen years ago, when the man had made it clear that he was not going to take Obi-Wan Kenobi as his padawan learner. Half a year after their final parting, the Jedi master had made a brief visit to Coruscant, never to return again. Obi-Wan was aware that there had been any number of search and rescue missions during his apprenticeship and the first years of his knighthood; he had been part of one such mission, which had been disguised as a lengthy set of trade negotiations. The negotiations had fallen largely to him while his master concentrated on trying to find the missing Jedi. Obi-Wan had been successful; his master had not.

Now Qui-Gon stood before him on a planet half a galaxy away from where he'd disappeared. Stood before him a slave of the Hutt. When Obi-Wan reached out with his mind, all he could sense was the presence of a living body. Something was blocking him. Whatever it was did more than just keep the force away from Qui-Gon; it also kept Qui-Gon away from the force, made him invisible to all but ordinary sight. Try as he might, Obi-Wan could not touch Qui-Gon's thoughts.

Why this must be read: This is a story about what happens when you do the unthinkable and it isn't the end of the world. And because Lanna Michaels is the one telling the story, it's word perfect, spare and lovely and heartbreaking and hopeful.

Hi and welcome to the MFU Van for the month of April. I'm Glenna, short of glennagirl, and I'll be your driver. I'm a newbie, so watch out for pedestrians and slow drivers. I'll try to miss them if you'll point them out.
It's April Fool's Day, so I'm doing something totally outside of what most would expect. I'm going for the slash story! Seriously, April Fool's would be to not read this story. It is one of my favorites, by a superb author, Linda Cornett.
This is a bit contrary to my normally gen preferences, but it is such an outstanding piece, and written by one of the authors who first captured my attention in the fan fiction genre.
You must read this, even if it's not the first time. A weary pair of agents decide on different paths to ease their pain: Illya decides on sleep and Napoleon has a date with Angelique. You might think you can imagine what comes next, but the story develops with a panache and delicate hand, weaving hidden desires and untold fantasies into one of the most stylist stories I've ever encountered.
I can't do it justice by sneaking in anything here. You'll have to trust me on this one.

Why this must be read: Because there are so few of us out there who actually write Carson/Teyla, Deidre's fic is one of the first and best that I read when I came to love this pairing. It has everything a person could want. It's long, it's plotty, her character voices are spot on and the sex is believable and hot. Teyla is offworld helping Carson with the medical care of a village when an outbreak of something occurs. In finding out what that something is, she starts to think about what kind of man Carson is and begins to give thought to her feelings for him. In turn she finds that he reciprocates her feelings, but much of this discovery must be put on hold until a cure is found. It's hard to live up to such a high standard as this fic gives, especially as it's the only Carson/Teyla Deidre has written.

Why this must be read: This story, by one of the newer and breathtakingly brilliant writers in the fandom, is surprisingly heartwrenching. Surprising because canon gives us far more harrowing circumstances than those depicted in this story, and yet it absolutely guts me. The premise is a simple one --- Sam inadvertently acquires a pet. Alongside the sorrow, however, is a story that is hopeful and quietly beautiful too. There is a pitch perfect depiction of Sam, Annie and Gene's dynamic and a real sense of teamwork.

This great little fic was only written 2 days ago but already has the potential to be a fandom favourite. Usually when a 'Jack's going to live forever' story is written it's heavy on the Emo Angst.
Which is fine. If you were going to out live almost everybody you ever knew wouldn't you OD on Emo Angst?
Nancybrown has perfectly captured the issues of living forever and never being able to die in only 2600 words.
Plus.... Jack/Eleven!

He'd lost memories, friends, lovers, and family, but he admitted to himself (inside his head, where no-one on those particular lists could ever hear) that setting aside his name was always the hardest loss.

Hi! I’m mizface and I’ll be driving the WB/CW-RPS van this month! There is a huge amount of great fic to choose from, and the authors I chose have a LOT more great fic than just the ones I’m reccing, so I hope you check out their work as a whole (and leave them their much-deserved wonderful feedback). Here’s the criteria I chose to use this trip:
1.Jensen/Jared is my pairing of choice
2.I have a love for AUs that cannot be textually rendered, and lucky me! This fandom has some of the best
3.I tend toward happy fic. It can have its share of angst, but overall I love humor, banter, and at least a hopeful ending.
4.I am a geek of ginormous proportions. Seriously – I fly so many geek flags it’s a little scary.

That last one means all of my recs will be based on something I geek out about. And to start the ride, let’s just go to one of my oldest geekdoms – Dungeons & Dragons.

Yes, D&D. And not as in the boys are playing D&D. Oh no – Jared is a human Barbarian and Jensen is a half-elven Mage. Add in Aldis (halfling Thief), Jeff (human Ranger), Jim (dwarven Fighter)and Misha (human Cleric), and you have one heck of a party. One of the things that’s made this a favorite for me is how well Annella has depicted not only the characters, but the classes and the world itself. I also loved all the in-game references, but no gaming experience is needed to enjoy this delightful Big Bang story.
