12:44 am 'Ohana Kupa by sheafrotherdon (Explicit)
Fandom: HAWAII FIVE-0 2010
Pairing: Steve McGarrett/Danny Williams
Length: 8,569 words
Author on LJ: [livejournal.com profile] sheafrotherdon
Author Website: Her fic on AO3
Why this must be read:

All right, "Steve goes to New Jersey to meet Danny's family" is kind of a classic for the fandom. Great stories were written with that premise and this one is, IMHO, the best one yet. Poor Steve is both overwhelmed and charmed and these Williamses are as hilarious and likable as Danny himself. Everyone being thankful before Thansgiving dinner was especially gold. A read that will definitely put a smile on your face.

01:09 am This Thing of Ours by leupagus (Explicit)
Fandom: HAWAII FIVE-0 2010
Pairing: Steve McGarrett/Danny Williams
Length: 35,814 words
Author on LJ: [livejournal.com profile] leupagus
Author Website: Her fic on AO3
Why this must be read:

If you follow the show and were as traumatized by the finale as many of us were, now is the right moment to have a nice soothing moment of floating away from canon into AU. Yes, H5O has them! And like everything in this fandom, they're awesome!

This one's taking Danny's New Jersey roots and giving them the best kind of twist. Danny the Mafia Don flirting and fighting with Steve "The Law" McGarrett is one long blissful read sure to remind you why you loved the show in the first place despite messing with the fundamental premise. The fic is that awesome.

(Also, it had Danny trying to get the hang of Angry Birds before he tried to do the exact same thing in canon, and it should be mentioned! )

This Thing of Ours

That's it for me, guys! I'm sorry RL kicked my ass and I couldn't bring you more recs like I initially planned to, but rest assured I've barely scratched the surface of the awesomeness in this fandom and I'm sure others will take my place to show it all to you.

Mahalo, y'all! It's been a blast!

And remember, if you liked it, don't forget to leave the author some comment love!

02:56 am Made Me Think of You, by lionessvalenti (NC-17)
Fandom: WHITE COLLAR
Pairing: Neal/Sara
Length: 875 words
Author on LJ: [livejournal.com profile] lionessvalenti (Friends only)
Author Website: [livejournal.com profile] blackfic
Why this must be read:

Here's another one written for [livejournal.com profile] mmom, this time featuring Neal and a surprise present from Sara Ellis. The author manages to do a lot in less than 900 words; not just truly excellent smut (Neal does look good in blue), this story is a deft sketch of a relationship between two people who drive each other crazy in all sorts of ways.
Hell, she was probably a force of nature during angry sex. )

12:41 pm Tomorrow's Life by JoJo, PG13
Fandom: THE PROFESSIONALS
Pairing: Bodie/Ray Doyle
Word Count: 7,300 words
Author on LJ: [livejournal.com profile] solosundance
Author Website: JoJo's fic at AO3
Why this must be read:

While I promise that I've not just been trawling the fantastic community [livejournal.com profile] discoveredinalj for my recommendations this month, it seems that I'm destined to reccommend several of the challenge responses!

This particular fic was written for the Discovered in A Newspaper and Discovered in Graceland challenges. Doyle's world is turned upside down and doesn't stop spinning in the midst of an IRA campaign.

The narrative is weirdly compelling - a stream of consciousness that doesn't quite make sense in a way that really does make sense. It sets the tone for the whole piece: Bodie is being enigmatic, Cowley is running everyone ragged and both Doyle and the reader is off balance. This is the perfect set-up to get the reveals and the big revelations at the pace of the story.

05:39 pm Jeffrey Nullier's "Man With Fedora" by copperbadge (PG)
Fandom: WHITE COLLAR
Pairing: Gen
Length: ~17,500 words (two chapters)
Author on LJ: [livejournal.com profile] copperbadge
Author Website: [livejournal.com profile] sam_storyteller
Why this must be read:

Oh man, it was so hard picking just one WC fic by [livejournal.com profile] copperbadge. He's written several excellent stories in the fandom, some of which have already been recced here. I finally settled on this two-part fic, in which the theft of several paintings is the occasion for Neal and Peter to hold a running debate on the power and value of art, the nature of responsibility, and the inescapability of consequences. Lest that sound too heavy, there is also plenty of [livejournal.com profile] copperbadge's signature comedy, like when Peter has a realization about one of the missing artworks.

'What? You should be flattered, your mouth's worth like ninety grand. Wait, not like that,' Neal added hurriedly )

Fandom: THE MENTALIST
Pairing: Bosco/Jane non-con (sort of)
Length: 678 words
Author on LJ: [livejournal.com profile] oroburos69
Author Website: Masterlist here
Why this must be read:

This one has teeth, people. Big, sharp teeth which are all the more impressive given that the entire fic is less than 700 words. It's hard-hitting, terribly plausible, and my favorite example of Dark!Jane by far.

Warning: Written in response to a kink meme prompt requesting dub-con and hate!sex, this snippet definitely has concepts which may be triggering.

Jane is broken and the shards cut everyone.

06:31 pm Delirium by Lady of Pride (R)
Fandom: THE MENTALIST
Pairing: One-sided Red John/Jane, implied Jane/Lisbon
Length: 763 words
Author on LJ: [livejournal.com profile] ladyofpride
Author Website: On LJ
Why this must be read:  Continuing the theme of, umm, darkness and badness:

Delirium is an excellently creepy, crawly fic that delves into the mind (and pov) of Red John and his thoughts on Jane. Nothing physical or graphic actually occurs in the fic, however the author warns for implications of non-consensual sex, so read with caution if you find the concept triggering.

Fandom: THE PROFESSIONALS
Pairing: Bodie/Ray Doyle
Length: 15,600 words
Author on LJ: [livejournal.com profile] kittyfisher
Author Website: Devine Madness
Why this must be read:

Kitty Fisher is one of my favourite writers in the fandom, and it was rather a toss up as to which of her fantastic stories I would recommend this month. In the end, I just had to go for this one, which is satisfying without being too sweet, entertaining without straying into parody and believably real.

06:59 pm Good Witches and White Lies by mswyrr (PG-13)
This is my final rec! As I said at the beginning of the month, the Mentalist has a small (but proud!) fandom given the number of viewers it consistently gets. It is my fervent hope that more and more fans will get sucked in come join us and help the fan community grow. We've had three great seasons so far, and I'm counting on several more to come.

Thank you so much to everyone who made my first time behind the wheel so lovely! I love this community, and I love the Mentalist, and I am completely honored to have had the opportunity to share some of my favorite stories, authors, and vids with you.

Fandom: THE MENTALIST
Pairing: Gen
Length: 2k
Author on LJ: [livejournal.com profile] mswyrr
Author Website: On AO3
Why this must be read:

This is, without a doubt, one of my very favorite fics in this fandom (which is why I chose it as my final rec). It intelligently and beautifully fills in what happened after the season 2 finale, "Red Sky in the Morning." There's some amazing insight into Jane's character, some very, very sweet Jane/Lisbon interactions, and a bittersweet ending that finishes it off perfectly.

07:22 pm And I Can't let Go (Teen) by noelia_g
Fandom: GENERATION KILL
Pairing: Brad/Nate
Length: 8,425
Author on LJ: [livejournal.com profile] noelia_g
Author Website: AO3
Why this must be read:

I love superheros. I was a not so closet geek with at least a brown belt in marvel-fu in High school so when I saw the excerpt a part of me sat up and begged. The author did not disappoint. The interaction of the guys doesn't take you too far from the original premise where what you know is not as important as following commands. Plus the fear of the public from powers gifted to a selected in a populace. Follow the links there's a sequel.

Author's Words

Ray stops and reconsiders. There are at least four telepaths on the base, that he knows of, and he has been repeatedly told his thoughts are disruptive and inappropriate for the workplace.

He says, fuck them, it's probably the only time the goat-fucking nutjobs get to have any fun in here, Ray is doing them a huge favor and should be rewarded.

08:04 pm Half Past the Point of Oblivion (NC-17) by KahtyaSofia
Well, the month is over and I want to thank you for coming on the ride with me. Please, thank your authors and enjoy the stories!

Fandom: GENERATION KILL
Pairing: Brad/Nate
Length: 80,451
Author on LJ: [livejournal.com profile] kahtyasofia
Author Website: AO3
Why this must be read:

I have a soft place in my heart for hooker fic. The simple idea of Brad rescuing a far from helpless Nate is just to good not to pass along. I also enjoy a lengthy fic and this fits the bill.

Author's Words

Brad unexpectedly meets a charming street hustler who insinuates himself into Brad's heart and life. Can Brad get him off the street? Does he want off the street?

Fandom: DEATH NOTE
Pairing: Mello/Matt
Length: 700 words
Author on LJ: [livejournal.com profile] wicked_pistil, now [livejournal.com profile] pollinia
Author Website: Fanfic Table of Contents
Why this must be read:
Given how little dialogue Matt had in the series, it's easy to understand the many different versions of him in fandom. I enjoy wicked_pistil's look at Matt as a product of Wammy House, emphasising how the children raised there tend to come out rather eccentric.

Matt frowned and listened to the electronic sounds ricocheting around the efficiency apartment, scaring away the cockroaches. He wasn't in. He wasn't crazy like the rest of them with their oral fixations and childish addictions.
