12:33 pm Modus Operandi by Bronwynferchdai (Rating: R)
Fandom: DONALD STRACHEY MYSTERIES
Pairing Donald Strachey/Timothy Callahan
Length: About 12,000 words in four parts
Author on LJ: [livejournal.com profile] bronwynferchdai
Author's website: none of which I'm aware, but here's her fic masterlist

Why this fic must be read: I'd advise a careful reading of all Bronwyn's fics. But this one — this one is an orgy of hurt/comfort, terrifying, painful and real. Bronwyn is a master at building mood and getting the reader right into the action. My heart was pounding the entire time I read this thriller, and believe me, it didn't take long!

01:01 pm Bloodsport, by [livejournal.com profile] noctaval (R)
Fandom: TRON
Pairing: Rinzler/Sam
Length: 3,195 words
Author on LJ: [livejournal.com profile] noctaval
Author Website: [livejournal.com profile] noctaval_ficcy
Warnings: Dubcon, bloodplay, Program sex. Spoilers for Legacy
Why this must be read:

There are certain moments of canon that you just know are going to ping fandom’s Smut Radar. One of these is when Rinzler notices that Sam is bleeding and rumbles, “User.” Sure enough, round one, page one of the [livejournal.com profile] tronkinkmeme: “Any Program/Sam, anything to do with Users being able to bleed in the Grid. Because blood kink like whoa...” [livejournal.com profile] noctaval responded with this “missing scene”, in which Rinzler pays a visit to Sam’s cell during their trip aboard Clu’s ship to the lightcycle arena.
:Do not struggle: came the mechanical voice, and before he could think to do so he was flipped over roughly, Rinzler's disc coming to rest at his throat. )

[livejournal.com profile] noctaval does a great conveying Sam’s tumultuous mental state: confusion, exhilaration at surviving the disc wars, a moment of wry pragmatism (“at least they hadn't discovered he didn't belong here by witnessing his messy decapitation”), his defiance even in the face of the frankly terrifying Rinzler. This is not a comfortable read, but it is a gripping one.

Pairing: Jenna/Kono
Length: 5300 words
Author on LJ: [livejournal.com profile] siriaeve
Author Website: siria at AO3

Why this must be read:
Because it has everything - fun teamy moments, Jenna and Kono being smart and awesome, sweet, sexy first kisses, a little bit of angst, a case... What more could you ask?

Oh fine, and it has Steve convinced Kono's signalling her intention for world domination using flowers.

11:45 pm Ecclesiastes by epicycles (PG)
Fandom: MAN FROM UNCLE
Pairing: none
Length: 1660 words
Author on LJ: [livejournal.com profile] epicycles
Author Website: fic list on her LJ
Why this must be read:

There's stories and there's meta and there are stories that are meta, and sometimes they're so good that they explain Life, the Universe and Everything--at least in your little corner of fandom. Man from Uncle Season 4 is... not right. Napoleon and Illya are different. We still watch them because well, they're Napoleon and Illya, but something is wrong, they're not the men they were. [livejournal.com profile] epicycles knows what happened. And she tells us. And it's... creepy. But it makes sense, suddenly we know what's going on in Season 4.

Forget the meta for a minute, this is a real story; tense, terrific, unsettling. It's not just Thrush that can go a step too far in the search for the perfect agent, the perfect tool. What happens once the damage is done? Ecclesiastes takes us there.
And when you've read it, I'd like to recommend you also check out Automatons the excellent remix from [livejournal.com profile] edna_blackadder which takes the story one step further.

"Do me the courtesy of remembering that the Department of Retraining and Deprogramming is part of UNCLE, not Thrush. We do not brainwash," I said stiffly. "I know many of the Section Two agents detest us, but I expect better from you, Alexander."

"Yes. Yes, you're quite right. My apologies, Stephen." Alexander sighed, looking older than I'd ever seen him. "I know you do your best; I only wish I had never sent them to you at all."

"Were the results unsatisfactory?" I had read the reports, though I hadn't overseen the procedures myself; everything had seemed to indicate success.
