Hullo everybody! I'm Kt, your driver for White Collar this month. I'm currently in the middle of grape harvest so expect my rec's to be a little erratic during the beginning/middle of the month. :) Fandom: WHITECOLLAR Pairing: Elizabeth, Peter, Neal Length: 5 919 Author Website: AO3
Why this must be read:
With 32 White Collar Fics under their belt OnYourMark is fast becoming one of the best WC writers out there. This fic is a shining example of how they've taken a potentially angsty situation and jammed it full of humour. The title says it all really.
Excerpt: "He shot Mrs. Suit?" Mozzie asked, when Neal walked in. "Who did it?" "Jerry Rydell," Neal answered. "He's a drug dealer moving into the art market. Hi, by the way." "He shot Mrs. Suit?" Mozzie repeated. "Me too," Neal rolled up his sleeve, showing the butterfly bandages on his arm. "I need fifty grand for the hit," Mozzie said. "Seventy to make it look like an accident. Your share is half, I got the rest. I know this guy -- " "Nah, this is a do-it-yourself gig," Neal replied. Mozzie broke into a wide grin. "The full treatment?"

Fandom: DEADPOOL & CABLE (Marvel Comics) Pairing: Deadpool/Cable Length: 1,637 words Author on LJ: somanyopentabsAuthor Website: somanyopentabs on AO3Why this must be read:It was a real trial for me in deciding which one of this author's stories I should recommend here but I decided on this awesome Cable/Deadpool story rather than the Loki-is-cursed-by-Dr. Strange-to-be-a-Disney-Princess because I absolutely adore the way this author writes Deadpool's internal monologue. Seriously, it reads like something from the comics (well, the comics are slightly more implicit rather than explicit about how Deadpool feels about Cable, but there you go). This is a gorgeous, quick read that shows the relationship between the two in a more sweet light than usual but somehow keeps the hurting, cynical nature of Deadpool intact. I highly recommend it (and then really, go read this author's other work). Leaping Logic in a Single Bound by somanyopentabs

Fandom: NCIS Pairing: None. This is a gen piece from Gibbs' POV. Length: 3135 words Author on LJ: N/A Author Website: HollyJeen on FF.NetWhy this must be read: This is an interesting story because it focuses on the choice Gibbs made at the end of Aaliyah. Back then, fandom as a whole was mostly in uproar, the Tiva and the anti-Tiva fans were up in arms, there were people hating Ziva and others hating Gibbs for leaving Ziva behind. Being a Tony girl, I freely admit that I pumped my fist and yelled "yes!!!" when Gibbs didn't even hesitate to choose Tony over Ziva. However, I never thought he made this choice lightly. This story by HollyJeen explores Gibbs' reasons. She states in her author's notes that he might come across as OOC. In my humble opinion, however, she nailed his character and explained perfectly why he made that "simple" choice. ( Excerpt: )A Simple Choice

Fandom: THE PROFESSIONALS Pairing: Bodie/Doyle Length: ~34050 Author on LJ: draycevixen5Author’s Stories: Automated Hatstand; The Circuit Archive; AO3Why this must be read: This story has a bit of everything I love about Pro’s. There is anger, hurt/comfort, betrayal, introspection, a silly race with cheese, a bit of a myth and a very interesting take on what Bodie’s actual past might be. The story starts with Ray very angry at Bodie. There were some truths he discovered about his partner that shook him severely. He wants absolutely nothing to do with Bodie. Bodie was badly injured and is recuperating, alone. Cowley needs to get some information to Bodie and bribes Doyle with time-off if he’ll deliver the papers. Ray is stunned at what he finds. ( excerpt )Throughout the stress-filled scenes, we still get a taste of the lad’s banter. The touch of humor gives the reader a bit of a break from the tension. The characterization is well written and spot-on. These are definitely ‘canon’ Bodie and Doyle. There are too many good bits to pick out excerpts but I do have to share one of the most moving passages I’ve ever read: “See, I said you were a stupid bugger.” Doyle leaned forward and again took Bodie’s face in his hands, only this time he kissed him. Little more than a brush of lips at first, Doyle withdrew but stayed close enough that Bodie could feel the puff of air against his lips as Doyle spoke again. “Wherever you’ve been, whatever you’ve done, whoever you are, whatever condition you’re in, I still want you.”Give this one a try. It's a well written, heart tugging story. You won’t be disappointed. (and as a bonus you get to read about Ray chasing a cheese that’s rolling down a hill… *g*) Ninety-Nine Yew Trees

Fandom: WATCHMEN Pairing: Adrian/OCs (Dan/Laurie; unrequited Adrian/Dan) Length: ~800 Author on LJ: muzivitchAuthor Website: Author's fic on LJWhy this must be read: Because it's a gorgeous, bittersweet little snippet that packs a real emotional punch in very few words. The disconnect between Adrian's unrequited feelings for and idealisation of Dan, and the fact that he's actually kind of a dick to the lovers he has, comes across very well here, I think. Plus, Dan's presence and character are put across beautifully, despite his barely appearing in the story. ( Excerpt )The Replacements
