Fandom: AMERICAN IDOL SEASON 7 Pairing: David Cook/David Archuleta Length: 1,700 words Author on LJ: otherbellaAuthor Website: fic tag at callitasouvenirWhy this must be read: The summary: Archie doesn't mind when Cook puts on a few pounds - in fact, he prefers Cook a little chubby. He loves to rub his face against Cook's belly and he loves convincing Cook that his body is just fine the way it is. Kinks, ahoy! I have a great hate-on for the body hate that so many of my fave celebs (David Cook among them) go through and this tackles it head-on with a beautiful moment between Cook and Archie that also ends up being extremely sexy. This may read as a piece of fluff but it's more than substantial and has stayed with me through many readings. Not A Thing That I Would Change

Fandom: FIREFLY Pairing: None (some background Simon/Kaylee, but it's not a shippy fic) Length: ~9K words Author on LJ: vialetheAuthor Website: (or a link to where more of their fic is archived) Fic Master ListWhy this must be read: This fic was only posted a couple of days ago, but it was too good not to share around. Post- Serenity, Mal and Jayne get themselves kidnapped, leaving the ladies of Firefly (plus Simon) to come to the rescue. vialethe spins a fun, engrossing tale that feels just like a missing episode of the series, from character interactions that crackle with life to a job that (as ever) does not go smooth. If the movie was the lost Season 2 finale of Firefly, this will be your favorite one-off episode from Season 3! ( Her space is on the ship; always on the ship now, always ready to fly at whatever notice Mal can manage to give her. )A Girl Needs a Gun These Days - Mood: content

Fandom: SHERLOCK BBC Pairing: ... Sherlobster/John Length: 1555 words Author on LJ: Anonymous (please let me know if she/he's gone unanon) Author Website: posted to sherlockbbc_fic, the Sherlock BBC Kink Meme Why this must be read: Because if anyone mentions The Lobster Story and you don't know what that is, now you do. Or if you lost the link. Or if you have your own bib and a craving for a story in which the Pool Scene is enacted with the primary characters as lobsters. Genuinely witty and well done.
( Lots and lots of lobsters, everywhere. With knives. )

Fandom: SHERLOCK BBC Pairing: Mycroft/Lestrade Length: 2955 Author on LJ: crocodile_eat_u Author Website: works on AO3 Why this must be read: Mycroft Holmes and D.I. Lestrade may seem an odd pairing at first blink. In the Sherlock BBC episodes they're never shown together, though they're standing on the same street at one point. In fact, in most adaptations of Sherlock Holmes, no attempt is made to present either character as an attractive man. One of the delights of Sherlock is the interpretation of Mycroft as his brother's antagonist (more humorously than in The Private Life of Sherlock Holmes), and as a character with weight issues, rather than as Doyle's sedentary man of full habit (played by Christopher Lee in The Private Life, he's also slender, but without rationale). Another delight is the mature and gorgeous and competent and slightly battered, world weary Lestrade, embodied by Rupert Graves. Is it any wonder that Sherlock fic features pairings, and incest, rarely found for other "verses" of Sherlock Holmes?
The coming together of these quite different characters can be endearing in the right hands; or even faintly sinister. It is, after all, Mycroft. There are often class issues, trust issues, power imbalances, and the thorny brother embedded in both their sides. If you're lucky, there's food.
"A Quiet History" gives Lestrade an interesting backstory and Mycroft a suitable, believable setting. It's not fluff, it's not quite dark, it's not quite romance. It's terrifically sexy if you have a thing for books (among other tastes). I like what the author's done with them.

Fandom: X-MEN ( early 90's cartoon universe continuity) Pairing: Bobby Drake (Iceman)/Kevin Sydney (Morph) Length: 7,052 words Author on LJ: poilassAuthor Website: Poi Lass on comicfic.netWhy this must be read:I have to admit, this is a nostalgia rec for me. The X-Men Animated Series was what got me into fandom back in 1992. The very first fanfic that I wrote back in middle school involved Bobby Drake and was based on this iteration of the character and the un(frozen) archive holds many stories I cherish from this time in my life. Poi Lass has rightly been recced here before, too, but not this one. Morph was a favorite character of mine, along with Iceman, so of course this story that has Morph romantically pursuing Iceman in as over-the-top ways as possible is lovely for me. This is funny, but it also has deeper undercurrents as Bobby struggles with possibly feeling attracted to another man and Sydney makes everything harder by showing him every face but his own. Fandom: NCIS Pairing: Gen. Gibbs-centric. Length: about 1,400 words Author on LJ: emeraldsong_ficAuthor Website: on FF.Net as secretchildWhy this must be read: This story is set pre-series and focuses on Gibbs in Iraq. It was actually written for a fanfic challenge; the prompt was to do a situation where a character is forced to use one sense when he/she would normally use all five (sight, hearing, smell, touch, taste). Emeraldsong chose "hearing", and managed to convey so much with so little, create an entire world based solely on what Gibbs can hear, that is makes me tear up at the end every single time. And if you know what happened to Gibbs' family in canon, it'll make the whole fic even more heart-breaking. ( Excerpt: )Mail Call

Fandom: STARSKY & HUTCH Pairing: none Length: very long Author on LJ: not known Author Website: HEREWhy this must be read: Because it’s long and beautifully written. It’s the definition of angst and I really enjoyed every line of this story when I was reading it for the first time. The second time it was even better. What is it about? It’s a case story where Hutch gets lost in more than one way and Starsky is trying to find him. There is a lot of hurt and even more comfort but their love shines through the darkness that is threatening their world. Calming his thoughts, Hutch turned away from the window and rested his back against the counter. As expected, Starsky had been watching him from the table.
“Starsk, was I using?”
“Hutch, I—”
“I need to know, Starsk. Was I shooting up?” Fallen Alternative links: http://zebra3blt.net/Brit/FallenPartOne.pdfhttp://zebra3blt.net/Brit/FallenPartTwo.pdfhttp://zebra3blt.net/Brit/FallenPartThree.pdfhttp://zebra3blt.net/Brit/FallenPartFour.pdf
