Fandom: WATCHMEN Pairing: Adrian/Jon Length: ~1300 Author on LJ: cause_to_effectAuthor Website: Unknown Why this must be read: This sparse, poetic little piece gets over so much about both characters in so few words. It shows a human, vulnerable side to Adrian without ignoring his flaws, while Jon's detachment and inability to connect even with someone with whom he's sexually and intellectually intimate are both chilling and poignant. Fandom: NCIS Pairing: Leroy Jethro Gibbs/Tony DiNozzo Length: ~11,200 words Author on LJ: uncausedAuthor Website: AO3Why this must be read: In this AU, we have a blind ex-cop named Tony DiNozzo witnessing a crime and helping the investigating NCIS agent Leroy Jethro Gibbs. I'm usually wary when it comes to AUs because a lot of times, the characterization is terribly off. In this story, however, everyone is incredibly in character, and I can absolutely see Tony be that way if he were blind: still competent and independent, funny and snarky, a flirt and a bit of an adorable brat. The case is interesting, the way the team solves it (with Tony's help, of course) could be straight out of an episode, and the ending is sweet and hot and promises a lot more. I wish we would get a sequel to this! ( Excerpt: )he stays, blind

Fandom: DOCTOR WHO Pairing: 1st Doctor/Cameca Length: 746 words Author on LJ: amy_wolf ( amy_wolf) Author Website: DW master list, LJ master list, Teaspoon pageWhy this must be read:In the First Doctor serial The Aztecs, the Doctor had a delicate and charming accidental romance with an Aztec woman named Cameca. This is her story, and it fits her perfectly. This is a poignant tale of life, death, history, and flowers. Oh, and a certain brooding angsty incarnation of the Doctor makes an appearance, too. It's too short for an excerpt, but it's very well-written. Lady of the Flowers.

Fandom: THE SENTINEL Pairing: none Length: 93k Author on LJ: t_veranoAuthor Website: (or a link to where more of their fic is archived): PleasanceWhy this must be read:This lovely story is an account of Blair and Jim's first Christmas together - well, not-Christmas, really. See, Jim likes his peace and quiet at the holidays, and Blair figures the best present he can give him is to clear out a few days. No problem, right? Except when everything goes horribly wrong... As in most of her stories, T. has Blair's voice down perfectly, both internal and external. And there's no mystery as to why this story won Best Gen Short Story for 2008 in the LMFAs. ETA: Updated links to new site (Thanks, T.!). Also, here's a link to a podfic of Polishing Shoes; a follow-up story, Discerning the Magi's Gift by laurie_ky; and a podfic of same. Polishing Shoes
