Why this must be read: Part of what seems to draw a lot of fic writers to YnM are the shadowy pasts of the main characters: they beg one to attempt to fill in the blanks and imagine how these characters got there. This is especially true of Tsuzuki, whose past is hidden even from him. This short fic shows us the moment when he first becomes a patient of the grandfather of his future archnemesis, and the implications of what contributed to his years of mental anguish and torment... It's a very subtle, simple fic on the surface, but it hints at things that will leave one shivering...

Why this must be read:

Twelve years. Such a long time but sometimes you only need few moments to see how much a life could change. One moment and everything is different. One look, one touch and you realize you can't be alone anymore.

This happen to Alex and Justin and the reader can see how their lives change. The fic starts twelve years in the future and shows then earlier moments. The time gapes between them grow till the fics end with the present time and you realize that this future is inevitable. It's the normal, the right path for these two people.

I simple love the style of the fic. The idea to start with the end and end with the start isn't new but as I read [livejournal.com profile] tabacoychanel's fic I still was amazed. Somehow the author give this timeline presentation a new twist. Together with her wonderful characterization of Justin and Alex this is the reason the fic is under my top ten of WoWP-fics. Also the fic gets bonus points for an amazing Max even if there are only few scenes with him. ;-)

So I can only say... read the fic and see how Justins and Alexs evolved.

Hi, there. I'm Jas and I'll be reccing The Social Network fic over December. I'll be bringing a mix of three key types of fic in TSN fandom: 1) The Reconciliation Fic, 2) The AU, 3) The In Cannon Fic; usually either Harvard Fic, California Fic or Deposition Fic.

I'll start off with an excellent example of the reconciliation fic, because that was fandom's most pressing concern after the movie... how can we Fix It?

“Mark, you couldn't make a cat happy—you couldn't keep a plant alive, never mind make me—give me anything I—” Eduardo says and walks out. Mark takes that as a challenge.

Why this must be read: Kendall and James have a fascinating dynamic on the show -- they're best friends who fight, who sometimes hate each other, and the show is practically founded on the idea that Kendall has just been given something that James has always wanted. Their relationship is intense, and it isn't too hard to imagine it as a ticking time bomb. This fic is fantastic look at what happens after that bomb goes off, ending their relationship (and taking the band with it), as well as a look back at exactly how they ended up this way. The emotions in this fic -- guilt and anger, especially -- are palpable and feel very true to the characters.

Why this must be read:

How would you react when your siblings realize they aren't normal? Their feelings are everything but not normal? Could you accept them? Could you be still the same one? Cheerful with no worries?

Max can't do this. Through his eyes we see the slowly destruction of the Russo family. One vacation, one night, a feeling which should be a reason to be joyful, destroy this family and Max can only watch. It's heartbreaking to see how he falls apart. Nobody helps him... Nobody? No, there is Harper who also lost her path and wants to be his friend. 

Even if the fic is sad and melancholic there is still a shimmer of hope. Maybe it's impossible and unrealistic for everyone to have a happy end but maybe Max and Harper are two of these happy ones.
The author shows us this through simple words and moments but these things make the fic perfect. It fits perfect to show the mix of sadness and hope. So it's maybe no surprise that this is for me the best non-Jalex fic in this fandom and one of my personal favorites (and the reason that I ship Max/Harper....).

Why this must be read:

This is the main story in a delightful series that largely focuses on Duck and Buddy's friendship.  The series nicely bookends the movie with rich character developments, and romances/relationships that are happy without being maudlin.  There is also some angst and difficult subject matter handled with sensitivity.
