Welcome to January's H50 van for 2012. I'll be balancing this and Merlin's so we'll see how this goes. :) I discovered H50 through [livejournal.com profile] crack_van so it's a real treat to drive it here, as well. So sit back and enjoy the Hawaiian heat and pleasure!

Fandom: HAWAII FIVE-0 (NEW)
Pairing: Steve/Danny
Length: 22383 words
Author on LJ: fic journal: [livejournal.com profile] sangembrasse
Author Website: AO3
Why this must be read:

A wonderful fic to start out with, Wickedtruth brings to us so many points that I love in this fandom. She brings together action elements with the h/c and Steve and Danno's relationship to create a story worth spending an hour with. We also get to see a bit into Danny's past in New Jersey with a case that followed him to Paradise. With raw emotions as Steve and Danny find each other and wonderful support from Chin and Kono, this fic will leave you smiling and jonsing for more H50 love.

Hi everyone! I'm LVB, also known as [livejournal.com profile] phantompopcorn. I'll be driving the van for Star Wars fic this month. You can expect a lot of work coming from the EU era, especially between my OTP, Luke Skywalker and Mara Jade. So let's get on with it, shall we?

Fandom: STAR WARS
Pairing: Luke Skywalker/Mara Jade
Length: ~226k
Author on LJ: Not on LJ
Author Website: Kataja's Star Wars Fanfiction
Why this must be read: Kataja has created such a fantastic Alternate Universe in this story that it is so easy to believe this course of events actually transpired. Kataja's story begins early in RotJ where, along with Han and Chewbacca, he also rescues Mara Jade from Jabba's Palace. Kataja then thoroughly explores the life of Luke on Home One where Mara is there, secretly plotting espionage against the Rebellion.

The amount of detail here is fantastic. Kataja really pulls you in to this world. There are a few other interesting characters that pop up. If you are a hard-core Luke/Mara shipper, I would say that this story serves as a prelude to what is to come. Kataja does plan on this story being the first in a trilogy. There's a hefty dose of Luke/Other and a small Mara/Other but don't let that scare you. This story is an amazing example of the intelligent and thoughtful writing that comes out of the Star Wars fandom, and a long, plotty read to boot.

04:31 pm After the Plague by Charlotte Frost, Rated G or PG
Fandom: STARSKY AND HUTCH
Pairing: None
Length: 3,539
Author on LJ: I don't know
Author's Website:http://home.comcast.net/~regmoore2005/newstories.html
Why this must be read: Okay, this is gen and I rarely read gen. But hey---I love to read missing pieces from well-loved hurt/comfort episodes! And this story has Starsky helping Hutch out when he's in the hospital getting over the plague, and there's just so much love between them. If you enjoy that kind of thing, you'll love this. And Charlotte really has a way of making mundane little daily things so special!

08:15 pm A Different Kind of Haunting, by Spuffyduds (Mature)
Fandom: SLINGS & ARROWS
Pairing: Ellen Fanshaw/Geoffrey Tennant
Length: 521 words
Author on LJ: [livejournal.com profile] spuffyduds (also on DW)
Author Website: Fic on AO3
Why this must be read:  Because it's a heartbreaking and insightful look at Geoffrey's sex life (or lack thereof) during his time in the mental institution, and the years following. As always, Spuffyduds packs so much in so few words, in this case building on a simple confession Geoffrey makes to Ellen about their time apart.

09:06 pm Now Does Our World Descend by Anarchistanthem (R)
Hi, I'm [livejournal.com profile] lucifuge_5 and I'm the [livejournal.com profile] crack_van driver for Bandom this month (woot!). I'm an MCR girl through and through so my recs will center around that particular band. With a mix of new and old fics that follow a weekly "theme", I hope there's a story or two y'all will like. :D!

Fandom: BANDOM (MCR)

Pairing: Frank Iero/Gerard Way

Length: 10,000 words

Author on LJ: [livejournal.com profile] anarchistanthem

Author Website: LJ link to tagged fics

Why this must be read: This week's theme is "break-ups and make-ups".

Sometime after My Chem goes on (semi-permanent) hiatus, Gerard moves to a small town, hoping to find some kind of peace. He's got a nice house, a dog and all the time in the world to be an artist. Life should be ideal. Except that he's also trying to move past the heartache of breaking up with Frank.

Things get deliciously complicated when said ex-boyfriend reappears in Gerard's life.

For all the sadness of the premise, this is actually a very quirky and sweet story (part of the magic of Bandom, I guess. *g*). It's a fic that's got: kicky banter and pining between ex-boyfriends who still love each other, Mikeyway being an awesome little brother, Ray's calming presence and a few hurt/comfort scenes courtesy of Frank's fail-y immune system.
