Why This Must Be Read: This is a great story. Jeylan really takes the time to slowly get our guys into their physical relationship, and it's sweet and sexy at the same time. It starts off with some ribbing at work that gets Starsky to thinking--he enjoys touching his partner, and he'd like to touch him a little more! But it's a scary thing, and that gets Hutch to thinking that maybe he needs to take the lead in this...Definitely a great first-time story! Read and be sure to send feedback to the author!

This is the fic that made me fall I love Sam/Jess/Dan and made me seek out other fics featuring that pairing. It's also a great example of how to properly write a threesome with equal balance of all three parties. It isn't about a couple plus one but a fully rounded story that fleshes out all the parties and brings them into a supportive and powerful triangle. That right there is a perfect reason to give this fic a gander as not all threesome fics can pull that off.

kiwiana also pulls off a stellar Jess characterization. She's a hard person to get right with so many writers falling into the show's party line and making her this perfect angel on a pedestal. Kiwiana fleshes her out into a strong and independent woman who is intelligent, not worried about what others think as she goes for what she wants, and not afraid to stand up for her boys and do her share in protecting them. I loved this picture of her and I'm sure you will as well.

ErmengardeSecret is known as one of the better Death Note authors, concentrating exclusively on the L and Light pairing. This medium-length fanfic is one of the very best of that lot, combining sharp character insights, interesting dialogue, gentle humor, and extremely hot smut. Even better, it is completely believable, which is a very difficult feat with the L and Light pairing. L/Light fics that manage to be mostly believable for the characters are rare enough; those that manage to be completely believable are almost non-existent, and quite precious.

While Light is alone in his room one night, L hacks into his computer to try to initiate a cybersex session...

Why this must be read: It's the best Bail Organa-centric fic I've had the pleasure to read. It's a compelling and unforgettable look at the man who raised Princess Leia to be so much more level-headed and mentally healthy, especially when it comes to romantic relationships, than her biological mother.

In this story, we get to see the tragedy of the Republic's fall, Padmé's death and her doomed relationship with Anakin, and the poor twins who must be separated for their own safety, through the eyes of the deeply compassionate yet very sensible and reasonable Bail Organa. He looks at the broken, dying Padmé and thinks, This is not what love is. Love is supposed to strengthen us, to support us, to help us get through difficult times - not destroy us in a conflagration of passion. Not only does it ring true to character... the sheer sanity of Bail's perspective is like a breath of fresh air in this fandom where the concept of romantic love is too often distorted into something dark and destructive.

Why this must be read:

For those familiar with the world, here's a story almost as dense as the mini and just as sharp. jesswinchester8 takes canon and tweaks it slightly, having Nate wounded at the bridge at Al Muwaffaqiyah. We see it through Brad's POV, with an utterly perfect internal monologue, full of military jargon and bitter diatribes and Brad's hopes, just underneath. The story brilliantly shows us Brad's repression, as he's realizing how repressed he is, all amidst Nate's failing idealism. It's 10k that takes place in a timespan of 21 minutes. It is fucking dense. But so worth it for its gorgeous use of language and its incisive looks at Nate, Ray, Doc, Gunny, and above all, Brad.

Bomb explosions aren’t the ideal light source for wound assessment, but there isn’t a fucking piss stream of blood spraying him in the eye when Brad eases the gauze back, and no veins spit out the skin like impotent senators scamming viagra in a Phuket whorehouse, so he figures Nate isn’t about to expire on him. Nate. Not the LT. Not Sir. Nate. Fuck.

Why this must be read: Everything by talkingtothesky should be read. She writes perfect character voices and dynamics in all of her fics and she also writes very lyrical, memorable and evocative descriptions. One thing that Sky excels in is saying more in 100 words than I could manage in 10,000.

This story is a crossover with Ashes to Ashes, in that it shows us Annie in Manchester after the Guv, Chris and Ray have gone to London. Annie is barely mentioned throughout A2A, and I feel her absence keenly. This story redresses the balance. I adore Annie in this story.
Warning: The premise behind this fic includes the suggestion of major character death.
