Fandom: SHERLOCK HOLMES FRANCHISE Pairing: Sherlock Holmes/John Watson, John/f/f, John/m/f, and John/OMC, all with Sherlock's participation Length: 81,714 words Author on LJ: emmagrant01Author Website: Author page on AO3Why this must be read:I gave you sweet romance last time, now have some sweaty, smoking-hot sexin'--AKA, the Kink Club rec. *g* The BBC Sherlock fandom is full of kink, and it wouldn't be a complete month of recs without at least one explicit example. Despite the fact that Sherlock/John OTPers and slash-only hardliners won't read this, I chose it for the threesome and het aspects as well as the excellent treatment of John's character. The OCs in this are well drawn despite being minor characters. I also appreciated the voyeuristic Sherlock who is figuring out what he needs and wants, and the implied kinky Mycroft who lends Sherlock his club membership. See author's warnings for full kink list. There is het and non-Sherlock male parts in this, but never fear, Sherlock is central to the goings on. A Cure for Boredom

Fandom: GUNDAM WING Pairing: Heero/Duo Length: ~6,000 words Author on LJ: lil_1337Author Website: LJ and DW only that I can find Why this must be read: Author's Summary: Duo is taken hostage when a mission goes wrong. Lil_1337 gives us a fast-paced struggle for survival on a doomed spacecraft with a phenomenal character voice and enough emotional wallop to leave you spinning. Her Duo is one of the best characterizations I've come across in years. Everything is spot on and so exact, me'thinks Lil is doing some channeling. Duo's on a mission he expects to be easy peasy but finds himself in a fight for his life against forces far more dangerous. I was on the edge of my seat for this story of endurance and expect you will be as well. Double-Spaced

Author's Summary:"What the hell?" Arthur shouts over the noise of ABBA. He glares at the horribly gaudy clothing of the men on the stage that is somehow louder than the music and flashier than the multicolored swirling lights. "This isn't a strip club. Fandom: GUNDAM WING Pairing: none; gen Length: 4 chapters Author on LJ: baby_karenAuthor Website: Personal WebsiteWhy this must be read: Author's Summary: After a successful battle, the Gundam boys are allowed some downtime in an abandoned country house. Upon arrival, all five could tell that something was wrong with the house. Just what was it? Based off of a childhood experience of mine. Now this is everything I look for in a horror story: eerie atmosphere, unsettling changes to our characters, "walking on your grave" shivers, and just an overall spooky-ness that leaves me with my light on and looking through all nearby heating grills. I usually try to stay away from reccing two stories from the same author in a rec cycle, but this story is just so unique in GW fandom that I have to share it too. Karen freaks me out every time by what she doesn't show or describe; a lot is left to the imagination of the reader and that is a very powerful thing indeed. This is also based on a real life event for the author so knowing that makes it doubly more spooky as it really happened in some form. Each pilot re-acts to the events that unfold in front of them in this seemingly peaceful "safehouse" in different ways, from becoming physically ill to losing touch with reality. Each reaction is freaky as heck and so true to character for our pilots. Everything adds up to the best horror story I've read in GW fandom and one of the spookiest in any fandom. Fandom: Twilight Pairing: Carlisle Cullen genfic. Ensemble cast. Canon pairings. The inspiring story of a man who, even as a vampire, never gave up faith in God. Amazing, the quality of work a talented writer can produce even when starting from something like Twilight. Fandom: Stargate Atlantis Pairing: McKay/Keller, McKay/Sheppard Length: approx. 8,000 Author on LJ: tzzzzAuthor Website: none that I know of Why this must be read: John finds himself alone with Jennifer Keller on a mission to provide medical assistance when he realizes she's manipulated him into a situation where she would have him alone for three days so they could talk. About Rodney. About them being friends or at least friendly for Rodney's sake. Things do not go as Dr. Keller hopes they would. John is injured and then they're attacked by a malevolent creature that takes Keller hostage. And that's when the fun really begins. This isn't a Keller-bashing story. She's presented very much as she was on the show; a young medical professional in her mid-20's who's a bit naive, who's thrust into responsibilities she never really wanted, who believes herself to be in love with Rodney and who is tired of being afraid for her life much of the time. I'm not a fan of the character, but I found her to be well represented here. Her actions and motives are clear and remain true to herself. This story is a marvelous character study for her as well as John Sheppard, whose long-known inability to articulate his feelings and to keep people at arms length are addressed. The series, whether TPTB ever admit to it or not, had if not a love triangle certainly a strong friendship/relationship triangle that should have been dealt with. That's why well written fan fiction such as this are so integral to fandom; we long for the discrepancies (both story and relationship-wise) to be fixed or at least explained. This does both marvelously. The Talk(If you enjoy "The Talk", rosiepaw has written a terrific epilogue entitled 20 Years Later, which I also highly recommend.)
