Pairing: none; gen
Length: 806 words

Why this must be read:

Author's Summary: Monroe discovers something new about the Grimm

This is a little snippet that explores a small detail only hinted at in canon: Nick's drawing ability. We see evidence of Nick's side talent only a few times, all in the fulfillment of his Grimm duties. It's nice to think about him having a talent besides being a Grimm and a cop; a drawing ability makes him more dimensional like Monroe's cello playing talent does for him. The drawing in this piece also is a vehicle for Monroe to learn about Nick. He sees a side of Nick he never thought of, and I think it broadens his perception of this baby Grimm whose come to roost in his domain. Just a lovely view into a seldom-ly visited part of Nick's characterization and how it could impact his friendship with Monroe.

03:17 pm Lesser Worlds by Diana Michelle (G)
Fandom: STAR WARS
Pairing: Anakin/Padmé
Length: ~500 words
Author on LJ: [livejournal.com profile] butterfly
Author Website: Personal site
Why this must be read:

Diana Michelle writes the most exquisitely right characterizations for Star Wars, whether Prequel Trilogy or Original Trilogy. This story details Padmé's emotions and thoughts as she awakens the day after her wedding, clear-eyed, in love, and thinking about the future and the immediate past. Asleep, Anakin is as beautiful a man as can be, and despite the hints of future problems, on this day she isn't listening.

05:48 pm you asked what's wrong with me by miss_bennie (PG-13)
Fandom: SKINS
Pairing: Gen (gen 1)
Length: 2,600 words

Author website: (author's fanfic tag)
Why this must be read: I don't know about anyone else, but I just about sobbed my way through the first few episodes of season two, and a lot of it was because there was such a stark disconnect between the end of season one and the beginning of season two - and obviously that was done on purpose and makes for excellent television - but you get the feeling like you missed a whole lot between those two episodes. This fic fills in the blanks. And does so perfectly, it takes place between season's one and two and is centered on Tony's issues. The voices are perfect, and the characterization is scarily accurate for every single person. Probably the best gen fic I have read in the fandom.

07:57 pm Christmas Away From Home by Innocentsmith (PG)
Fandom: DUE SOUTH
Pairing: Fraser/Kowalski,
Length: 5,200 words
Author on LJ: [livejournal.com profile] innocentsmith
Author Website: AO3 page
Why this must be read: Oh, my heart. I just reread this in preparation for reccing, and it is even better than I remembered. It's a kidfic, and it's about family, not just Fraser and Kowalski and their kid, but also Aunt Maggie and the weird cases she and Fraser and Kowalski go on, and the whole crazy Vecchio clan, and Stella who escapes with Fraser to a coffee shop to get away from the Christmas quarrels. Also, the bit with the ghosts put tears in my eyes--Caroline and Martha and Bob, still part of the family. And the way Smith writes Fraser and Kowalski as parents is perfect--yes, this is exactly what they'd be like. In short, this fic is like life.
