07:06 am A Grimm in the Family by Lionessvalenti (PG13)
Fandom: GRIMM
Pairing: Nick/Juliette
Length: 14,384 words
Author on LJ: [livejournal.com profile] lionessvalenti
Author Website: AO3
Why this must be read:

Author's Summary: Juliette has hidden her family history from Nick for years. Now it's time for the truth to come out. Someone's life may depend on it.

This story gives so much depth to the Juliette character. We get family history, a character study, an in depth look at how devoted she is to Nick and her family at the same time, and her values. And then on top of that, we get to see how well she can kick ass when she's got to save her sister from a blood feud with only a very reluctant Monroe as back up.

I love this interaction so much. For two characters who don't interact that much in canon, they make a wonderful team. The character voices while they're doing their planning and rescuing is so spot on, too.

Overall, this fic demonstrates how Juliette is a strong and independent woman who risks it all for family, love, friendship, and what she believes in. Lionessvalenti couldn't have done a better job.

Why this must be read: [community profile] kink_bingo turns up a lot of great stories during its various rounds, and this was one of my favorites from last year. Not only does it illustrate its particular kinks really well and naturally - ageplay with consenting adults most of all - it gives great insight into the characters' heads in the middle of their evening. And it's just really hot.

Why this must be read: This is due South from Huey and Dewey's POV. And of course, in their heads, they are the heroes and Fraser and Ray are the sidekicks. *g* I thought the Huey POV was really well done.

04:36 pm Waking You Up by brbsoulnomming (PG-13)
Fandom: Sherlock
Pairing: Sherlock/John
Length: 12,458 words
Author on LJ: [livejournal.com profile] brbsoulnomming
Author Website: Stories on AO3
Why this must be read: John is stabbed and Sherlock is knocked unconscious by a thief who is trying to avoid capture. When Sherlock wakes up he's told John is dead... While Sherlock attempts to through the motions of living, he isn't coping well. It isn't helpful in the least that John keeps appearing. This is another one of those terrific stories that is full of layers, that'll keep you guessing until the very satisfying end.

And despite what you read in the summary of the story, this is not a death fic. I hesitate saying that because it takes away from the mystery of the story a bit, but I don't want people to skip this marvelously well-written story because they don't like to read death fics. Trust me. Have I ever led you astray? (Feel free not to answer that last one.)

/Sorry for the formatting today, but unfortunately I'm running late, so I don't have a chance to fix it right now.

Fandom: SUITS
Pairing: Harvey Specter/Rachel Zane
Length: 8k words
Author on LJ: [livejournal.com profile] mskatej
Author Website: Ao3

Why this must be read:

Ok, I know. You're probably looking at the pairing, wondering what the hell I'm thinking. I never thought I'd ship Harvey/Rachel before this, but it's incredibly hot and it works. There's some slashy overtones to it (let's face it, with those two, you can't leave Mike out...), but if you're not into the slash, you'll still dig it. If you are, you'll REALLY dig it.

Picking up right after the end of Dogfight,   Rachel regrets leaving Mike that phone message and decides to seek comfort at the bottom of a martini glass, but she gets more than she bargained for when she runs into Harvey in a bar downtown.

Also: I've heard rumors of a sequel that's forthcoming, so you if you like this, you probably should let the author know. ;)
