Fandom: Stargate: SG-1
Pairing:  Daniel/Sha're
Length:  74,238 words
Author on LJ:  [livejournal.com profile] tafkarfanfic
Author Website: tafkar's writing
Why this must be read:

Sha're's husband Daniel Jackson and brother Skaara are abducted from Abydos by the Goa'uld Amaunet. To fight for their return, Sha're must join the newly created Stargate Command. But can Sha're become the woman she will need to be to get them back? (AU from the moment the Stargate opens in Children of the Gods.)

Sha're is one of my favorite supporting characters, and I wish she could have had a bigger role in the series rather than just being Daniel's Motivation.  This is a long, plotty AU that looks at what might have been and really gives her a chance to shine.  I love the way canon and relationships are different, and the way Abydonian culture is explored in more depth than the show ever gave to a non-earth culture.  Some authors can do great plots.  Some authors can do great characters.  Tafkar can do both, and boy does zie show it here.

08:29 am Me and Mrs. You series by Sporky (NC-17)
Fandom: THE AVENGERS
Pairing: Bruce Banner/Darcy Lewis
Length: 20,999
Author on LJ:[livejournal.com profile] thesporkwielder
Author Website: AO3

Why this must be read: I'm a sucker for waking up married fics and this fic is SO much more than that. From JARVIS helping out to working through all their issues to dealing with Bruce's past, Sporky takes a fanfic trope and spins a truly awesome tale. Plus, part three may reveal a kink that you didn't know you had, it did for me.

11:05 am Rudy's Guide to Auras and Fair Game Play by sparky77 (PG-13)
Fandom: GENERATION KILL
Pairing: None, gen
Length: 2496
Author on LJ: [livejournal.com profile] sparky77
Author Website: Q's Fic
Why this must be read:

There's not a lot of fic about Rudy; he's another of those difficult characters to write. Here, [livejournal.com profile] sparky77 just nails the Rudy-Pappy dynamic. On the roadtrip that is the invasion, Rudy and Pappy play a game. Brad tries to figure it out. The banter is fantastic and the radio chatter still fills me with glee. A great look at the guys as a family, with all that entails.

“What about the thing with Brad? We’re trying to beat him,” Pappy says.

“No, we’re not,” Rudy says. “We’re trying to lead him to enlightenment, to soothe his troubled soul.”

“By beating him,” Pappy says.

Length: one-shot at 1,998 words

Why this must be read: This is a fun one-shot that features my favorite Skip character, Mr. Yashiro, being tormented by the media's speculation about our favorite celebrities. The author did a great job reflecting both the over-the-top drama and insanity found in the manga. [Set after Reino's introduction.]

Pairing: Arthur/Eames
Length: ~8400 words
Author on LJ: [livejournal.com profile] gollumgollum
Author Website: gollumgollum's stories on AO3; gollumgollum's fic tag on LJ
Why this must be read: In my humble opinion, Arthur and Eames are best when they're being awesome and badass. In this story, they're all that, plus they still manage to be delightfully silly and romantic. But don't think this is a bit of fluff ... it has light moments, laugh out loud ones, a bit of tension, a job, a smidge of hurt/comfort, some Doctor Who, and all the terror that comes with realizing you're invested in someone else. It's a lovely story that has something for every mood.

Why this must be read: Kanae's reluctant friendship (and one-sided professional rivalry) with Kyoko make for some of the best moments in Skip. This fic sweetly explores just what Kyoko means to Kanae. The ending made this fic for me! [Valentines Day, slightly different from canon.]

Pairing: Arthur/Eames

Why this must be read: I've read lots of fic inspired by strange things, but I think this was the first (possibly only) one I've read that's based on a commercial. The commercial itself is funny, but the story is ten times funnier. Seriously. This is the kind of story where you make those ridiculous snorting laughs and the ones where you just gasp stupidly for air while barking like a seal.

The premise is simple. Arthur works (with Ariadne and Yusuf) for a company that will (for a fee) handle your messy break-up for you. It's made Arthur pretty much give up on the concept of love and romance, but he happens to live next door to Eames, who slowly works away at Arthur's reluctance to believe in good things. You can read this fic because it's funny, or you can read it because it's also a great story and a delightfully innocent romance that's still believable.

The slogan on the scooter is supposed to say 'No Sad, Big Smile Break-Up Service', but for the past few months it's just been 'Nads', minus all the spaces and missing letters. )

Fandom: INCEPTION
Pairing: Arthur/Eames
Length: ~1550 words
Author on LJ: [livejournal.com profile] toomuchplor
Author Website: toomuchplor's stories on AO3; toomuchplor's website
Why this must be read: I've been a fan of this author's work since long before this name and this fandom, and I know whenever I see her name attached to something I'm going to get a well-written story. I'm also a sucker for a sweet hurt/comfort piece and this just happens to contain one of the best lines I think I've ever read in a H/C story:

“Did you just try to kiss my subdural hematoma better?”

Eames as a self-appointed Florence Nightingale is funny, slightly absurd, caring while trying to pretend not to. It's just so Arthur and Eames.

'You’ll be really impressed when you realize later that I managed to nick your wallet whilst doing this.' )
