Title: A Force To Be Reckoned With
Characters: Anakin Skywalker, Yoda, Donna Noble, Tenth Doctor
Length: 6074 words
Author on LJ: [livejournal.com profile] hobbit_eyes
Why this must be read:

Today is Crossover Day, and two mighty vans collide in a heated Destruction Derby: Star Wars and Doctor Who. It's the Tenth Doctor, who, along with Donna Noble, lands in a Predicament, which is worse than a Fix, but not as bad as a Disaster. This author writes Anakin as young and earnest. Donna deals. The various personalities are perfectly in tune, and the action-filled plot delights. Go ahead, read it!

11:21 am Death Note / Cthulhu Mythos (rated E or probably NC-17)
Title: "Plaything of the Gods" by reaperlight (author also known as plannedbyReaperLight)
Pairing: The Shinigami King/Light
Author on LJ: [livejournal.com profile] reaperlight
Author Website: AO3 | DeviantART | Fanfiction.Net (no longer updated)
Why this must be read:

The Shinigami King is a minor canon character who is mentioned but never appears (at least, not until the one-shot sequel that may have been written by a different author and that some fans consider to be of a different canon continuity). Thus, there is a great amount of fannish freedom in how to depict the king, and this fanfic has one of the most imaginative, and coolest, depictions I've ever seen.

This version of the king is one of the abominable "cosmic horror" gods of Lovecraft's Cthulhu Mythos, a mass of tentacles searching for Light Yagami. After finding out that the king's tentacles confer great power, Light isn't entirely averse to being found. As is proper for a Cthulhu Mythos tale, things don't go exactly as planned...

Title: "District Eight" by [livejournal.com profile] irony_rocks
Pairing: Amy/Rory, Doctor/River
Author on LJ:[livejournal.com profile] irony_rocks
Author Website: Master Fic List

Why this must be read: This author (also the mod of [livejournal.com profile] het_reccers) is one of my absolute favorites, and every time I start on a new fandom I'm delighted to see she's already been kicking ass and taking names there, too. "District Eight" is short fusion tale wherein Amelia Pond and Rory Williams are chosen as District 8’s Tributes for the 100th Hunger Games. As always, [livejournal.com profile] irony_rocks nails the characterizations, for both fandoms, and leaves you wanting more. (Also, River Song would probably be the best mentor ever.)

Donna shakes her head. “Oh, no, Amy. I’m going to help you make an impression." )

Pairing: Enqueri/Blair
Length: 40,000 words (approx)

AO3

Why this must be read: - As well as being a crossover, this is a total AU. Set totally in the Stargate world, Simon, Rafe, Megan and Blair form SG-14. When the planet they are visiting is attacked by Jaffa, Blair meets Enqueri of the Chopek, a sentinel, and his guide Incacha. Incacha is killed, and Blair takes his place as Enqueri's guide. I find it fascinating how the relationship between Enqueri and Blair develops.

This is a sentinel who knows what he is and is comfortable with it, but Enqueri still has many of Jim Ellison's insecurities, meaning that the characterisation is spot on.

Destiny's Bond

Although it stands on its own, there is an unfinished sequel, Destiny's Choice, where Jack O'Neill develops sentinel abilities, here. Destiny's Choice isn't at AO3 although Destiny's Bond is marked on AO3 as part 1 of the Paths of Destiny series.

Why this must be read: Frank Iero leads a solitary existence running his family's machine shop, continuing his father's work in musical inventions in his spare time. One night baronet Morrison appears in his shop with a job offer that soon turns into an offer to join a secret resistance group fighting a corrupt government from within. An absolutely fabulous steampunk story with fascinating and believable worldbuilding, heaps of fascinating plot, dramatic events, fantastic relationship development, wonderful characterisations, heartwarming domesticity, and scorchingly hot sex.

I was completely fascinated by this world and loved discovering all the little details that made it both different and like our own. The plot was captivating and the way it played out gave the story just the right amount of tension and uncertainty, and the resolution was both satisfying and happymaking.

I loved Gerard and Grant's relationship and the way they reached out and wooed Frank together. Everytime this author duo writes this threesome they give the dynamics between them a new twist and makes us see different aspects of the characters. I also loved all the secondary characters and the way they interacted with each other and with the main protagonists. It all felt so right and believable.

Really, I lack words to express how absolutely delightful I found this story. It's the perfect story to immerse yourself in when you want something long and captivating and completely heartwarming.

Also, don't forget to look at the two pieces of art that [personal profile] reflectedeve made for the story. I love the way all the little details help the universe come alive for me and how the postures and expressions of the characters heighten the emotional impact of these two scenes. The style is also very fitting for the story.

Title: The Babysitter's Club by shooting-stetsons (TheUniverseWillSing)
Pairing: Sherlock Holmes & John Watson, Bruce Banner/Tony Stark, Bruce Banner & John Watson, Clint Barton/Natasha Romanov, Loki (Marvel)/Sif (Marvel)
Length: 44604 words
Author Website: shooting-stetsons AO3 page

Why this must be read: Because it has John spending his Great Reichenbach Hiatus as the Avenger’s new Babysitter. This is such a delightful, creative, smart crossover. It is amazing how well the two universes are melded together. Shooting-stetsons does such a great job with all the characters and their interactions. And of course John’s eventual reunion with a certain someone is beautifully done. This story is an action packed epic with tremendous heart. It is also an incredibly fun read.

Title: A Case of Unexpected Consequences
Author: ElderberryWine
Pairing: Frodo Baggins/Samwise Gamgee
Length: 11,387 words
Author on LJ: [livejournal.com profile] elderberrywine
Author Website: on AO3
Why this must be read:
This story is completely delightful! It's not really a crossover, per se, but a fusion of LotR and ACD. Frodo Baggins is our stand-in for Sherlock Holmes, smoking pipeweed and solving the mysteries that come his way in the Shire from his home base of 221B Bag End. Samwise Gamgee, a healer by trade, is his faithful companion in his adventures, and student detective. I am in awe of how well this author preserves the feel of both canons and combines them into this perfect fusion. All the Hobbits are completely Hobbitish, with lush descriptions and characterizations that fill my mind with images of Hobbiton, while at the same time ACD's characterization of Holmes sneaks through into Baggins's actions and Gamgee has absorbed Watson's voice.

This is a lovely little story which starts of a larger series of stories that are all fabulous. Go read and enjoy!

First of all I want to apologize for a late start to the Comics van this month, but hopefully I'll be able to make up for lost time!   While in recent years I've definitely leaned towards reading more Marvel, I have a fondness for DC.  Either way expect a variety of characters/comics.
