Author Summary:

Pitch melted into the shadows; Jack rode the wind to somewhere far away.

But Jack can't keep away and soon he realises that he doesn't want to.

The first of two pwp's by adelaide_rain that I'll be recommending, this one is the epitome of Blackice smut: hate sex, shadow bondage, rough sex, possessiveness, and hiding beneath it all a deep affection and the characteristic "us against the world"/"no one else will understand" that makes Blackice what it is. Written from a third-person Jack point of view, what distinguishes this from other Blackice smut is how strong the obsession is between the two of them and that it's based on neither of them wanting to be alone, they both realize they're helpless to fight against it, but they don't want to. (The not wanting to be alone thing is, of course, a reference to the Antarctica scene, "You don't have to be alone, Jack," but never stated as crudely or explicitly as that, adelaide_rain is much too elegant a writer for that.)

Even people who aren't familiar with RotG will probably enjoy this slashfic, but knowing the film makes it better.

Like Drowning

Hi, I'm Jas, and I'm going to be reccing hockey RPF through August. All recs will be slash, over a variety of teams and pairings, but there will probably be slightly more Kane and Toews pairings than any others.

In this fic Sidney Crosby is a Sentinel, discovering his powers. You need to know absolutely nothing about the old TV show, but I suppose it did delight my old-skool slashers heart to be reminded of an old favorite.

Common hockey tropes are that Sidney Crosby is weird, bless him, and the Eastern Conference Russians (the Russian knitting circle) are somewhat mother-hen-ish and this fic combines those things beautifully.

The author is a beautiful writer, taking us through Sidney's journey with great humor and feeling.

“Geno, I can’t — you go without me,” Sidney shouts through the door.

He hears footsteps, and then Geno’s voice is clear as anything, even with the door between them. “Sick?” Geno asks.

That sounds like a better explanation than his clothing having it out for him. “Yes,” Sidney says, then immediately follows it with, “No.”

This is a fascinating look at the idea that for every Sentinel there is a Guide. If that holds true, then there must be one out there for Alex Barnes. Twisted and dark though he may be, he is still devoted to his Sentinel and feels that soul deep connection that fanon likes to say is there. The author has created an intensely intriguing character voice for this original character that makes you shiver at some of the implications and yet also to cock your head in interest and fascination. A great read to start our road trip off with!
