Fandom: ELEMENTARY/PACIFIC RIM Pairing: Gen Length: about 2000 words Author on LJ: kittu9Author Website: AO3 Why this must be read: I actually couldn't decide if I should rec this one or not because while it is an amazing story it's apparently a small part of a much larger fic. Ulimatly though I decided that didn't matter because this one is just that good. I love, love, love stories that are narrated by outside perspectives and Marcus Bell is the perfect person to narrate this one. When we meet everyone Marcus and his brother Andre are Jeager pilots who have a pretty good thing going. Joan Watson meanwhile is the only surviving member of Team Watson and has, to the shock of everyone, formed an odd friendship with 'Gregson's pet project' former addict Sherlock Holmes. This fic combines both words in a wonderful and seamless way making sure that not only all their best parts are brought in but also their worst. The relationships are also spot on for what they would be in a world like this one without losing what makes them so epic in canon. ( Excerpt )Take It Too Far

Title: Flamebird Characters: Tim, Jay, Bruce Wayne, Watto, Nightwing, Yoda Length: ~4k words Author on LJ: sharpest_roseAuthor Website: AO3Why this must be read:It takes a fine chef's hand to concoct a savory crossover stew, and this author serves up some of the best. Flamebird is a well-known name in the DCU, its addition to the GFFA flavors a world filled with Padawans named Tim, an AgriCorps candidate named Jay, all watched over by a mystery named Nightwing. Lots of atmospheric touches and a profoundly right ending, this story is a winner. There is a fine illo for the story by ratcreature right here.Flamebird

Fandom: Sailor Moon/Doctor Who (Classic and New) Pairing: Gen Length: ~ 1.300 words Author on LJ: sailorptah Author Website: Ao3Why this must be read:I'm part of both fandoms and naturally I couldn't resist this fic. The idea that Pluto meets The Doctor is simple but also amazing. She's the guardian of the Door of Space-Time and the Doctor travels through Time. So it's only natural that they meet somehow. This story is short but every new paragraph shows the difference between the various incarnations of The Doctor. Especially if you know The Doctor 1 till 10, it's a fun way to see if you catch clues from canon moments in Doctor Who. Also, similar to Doctor Who you need to read/see everything before some things stand a reason, but in the end you can only think how good everything fits together. Ten Times The Doctor Met Sailor Pluto (Plus One More) (Ao3)--> Sailor Pluto meets Doctors One through Ten. (Not necessarily in that order.)

Title: Notes Of An American Curiosity Pairing: Jim/Blair (implied) Length: ~3k Author on LJ: mab_browneAuthor Website: Mab's fic on AO3Why this must be read:Full disclosure: I won this fic as part of the help_haiti auction. But it scratches a curiosity itch I've had ever since seeing the 2009 Guy Ritchie movie (and getting back into the ACD canon): is Sherlock Holmes a Sentinel? Certainly a case can be made for such in almost any incarnation, including canon. And Mab does a great job exploring this in this vignette of what might have happened had Blair Sandburg and Sherlock Holmes crossed paths during the Great Hiatus. The Blair and Jim in the story come from another fantastic AU story by Mab, Strewn Towards A Heaven, which tells the story of Jim Ellison the Pinkerton agent and how he meets up with Blair Sandburg during the Johnstown, PA flood. You don't need to have read "Strewn" to enjoy "Notes", but it's so good that you should read it anyway. Notes Of An American CuriosityStrewn Towards A Heaven

Title: sweet dreams & flying machines by coffeesuperheroPairing: Gen Length: 2,841 Author on LJ: coffeesuperheroAuthor Website: AO3Why this must be read: This is a story about how, at the age of six, Martin stopped wanting to be an aeroplane and started wanting to be a pilot. In Cabin Pressure, you get the sense that Martin never really had the happiest life, and the peek you see here of his childhood is quite sad and lonely. Luckily, an unexpected visit from the Doctor turns things around. This is a story to read on grey days; by the end, you just feel cheered up and cozy. And, as a bonus, it has a piece of really lovely fanart by artbylexie. sweet dreams & flying machines
