07:57 am Stark As You Mean to Go On by Pandemic (Explicit)
Fandom: Avengers Movieverse
Pairings: Steve Rogers/Tony Stark, Clint Barton/Phil Coulson
Length: 5981 words
Author on LJ: Unknown
Author Website: Author Page on AO3
Why this must be read:
Because the spectacle a courting Tony Stark makes of himself in this story is "Do Not Miss," and you will cackle like a loon (as amused as the rest of the Avengers) at how oblivious he is.

10:51 am Cross Purposes by Elizabeth Lowry (slash)
Fandom: STARSKY AND HUTCH
Pairing: Starsky/Hutch
Length: 1545 words
Author on LJ: http://starskyhutcharchive.net/viewuser.php?uid=30
Author Website: (or a link to where more of their fic is archived)

Why this must be read: Starsky and Hutch are often portrayed as on the same wave length and being able to read one another's minds. E. Lowry has them both thinking the same thoughts, but neither is able to admit the truth to his partner. One of the things I like about this story is that we don't know quite whose POV we are in. There are two sections, one for Starsky, one for Hutch--but she never specifies. I think I know which is which--can you figure it out?

01:25 pm Balance The Force by Lilith Sedai (NC-17)
Fandom: STAR WARS
Pairing: Obi-Wan/Qui-Gon
Length: Novel
Author on LJ: [livejournal.com profile] cara_chapel
Author Website: L index, go 5/8 down the page
Why this must be read:

Recc'd often by this comm, Lilith Sedai writes stories set seamlessly into the GFFA, only with sex. Masterfully plotted, Balance The Force is what I'd call 'high concept' (yet bountiful with 'low concept' character development and many subtleties), and I'll let the author summarize: Obi-Wan, more attuned to the Unifying Force than his master, believes his nightmares may be a warning about the future. Qui-Gon, preoccupied by the Living Force, disregards the warning. Lengthy and convoluted mayhem ensues. Really, this is not to be missed. Told in series, as follows:

Galactic Gladiators
Rogue Jedi
Dark Apprentice
Uneasy Allies
Grandmaster

08:24 pm Sherlock/The Hobbit (Teen)
Title: Come to Morning by sunryder
Pairing: John Hamish Watson/Sherlock Naenwauva, Bilbo Baggins/Thorin Oakenshield
Length: 95,891 words
Author on LJ: [livejournal.com profile] sunryder
Author Website: on AO3
Why this must be read:
Because, well, the actor who plays Bilbo and John Watson is the same, but in this story they are NOT the same character. And sure, in The Hobbit the actor that plays Sherlock also voices Smaug the Dragon... but in this story, Sherlock is an elf. INTERSPECIES LOVE!

The writing in this story is extremely evocative of Middle-Earth, with nicely researched lore bits and gorgeous, Tolkien-esque turns of phrase, while the characterization (particularly of the dwarves) is excellent. Bilbo Baggins learns that he isn't the first Hobbit of the Shire to go on an adventure and as he reads the story of one John Watson, he finds parallels in his own story. But he also wonders why the elves are so hesitant to speak of the story of John Watson and Sherlock Naenwauva. The story is a gradual unfolding of the mystery while following the plot of The Hobbit. GOOD STUFF, highly recommended! (PS: Read all of sunryder's stories, they're all exceptional).

08:36 pm Star Trek: The Original Series/His Dark Materials (General Audiences)
Title: Ni'Var by WerewolvesAreReal
Pairing: Spock/Jim Kirk
Length: 11,318 words
Author on LJ: unknown
Author Website: on AO3
Why this must be read:
I am a sucker for fusions with the concept of daemons from His Dark Materials. In this universe, humans have daemons while Vulcans have katras. However, Spock, as a Human/Vulcan hybrid, has neither... and is thus without a soul, making his life. Well. Unpleasant. Jim Kirk, on the other hand, has the distinction of being born with TWO daemons. I think you can see where the author is going with this, but it is very well written and the premise is interesting and original. The bits about Tarsus were especially interesting to read.
