Why this must be read: Having just come from a sneak preview of the upcoming Starsky and Hutch movie, I needed a huge dose of the real thing. Best Laid Plans really helped combat my depression, as a good Domestic Bliss!Starsky and Hutch story is supposed to. This is basically a "Plot? What Plot?" story, and it practically sizzles. Why? you ask. Well, any story involving butterscotch and Hutch, and chocolate sauce and Starsky is bound to incinerate. And this one does. Beautifully. "Oh, yeah," Starsky said. "I knew it. You and butterscotch belong together, blintz." He laughed. "'Butterscotch blintz' - sounds like a dessert special, to me." He sank his teeth into Hutch's shoulder. "Ya taste pretty good candy-coated, blondie. You shoulda been an M&M."
"All's fair in love and chocolate," Hutch said. He moved off Starsky's chest, but only long enough to straddle his hips. Fandom: THE PROFESSIONALS Pairing: Bodie/Doyle Author on LJ: n/a Author Website:n/a Why this must be read: ET is quite a prolific author in Pros and a very much loved one. This story in particular stands out for its characterisation - the byplay between the Lads is lovely, imo - and it's fun to read... "...He [Doyle] admitted now, with grim amusement, that he'd thought his last hour had arrived as he'd placed the ball in position ready for the scrum. Instead of waiting for him to get clear, a dozen or more had descended on him and in the confusion he'd thought a broken arm or dislocated shoulder would be the result. Until, that was, a stealthy hand passed swift appraisal across his raised buttocks. And another had ruffled his hair so enthusiastically his head had nearly been pushed right into the mud. But it was the third that caused him so much indignation. It smoothed slyly over one lean cheek, then slid down for a rapid reconnoitre of his genitals, its huge, ham-like proportions squeezing his vulnerable softness through the satiny shorts...." It chronicles a week in the Everwood, focusing specifically on a combative Bright and Ephram. With hints of UST mixing in with the truckloads of animosity between the two boys, you're in for a very entertaining and quite surprising time. Fandom: THE X FILES Pairing: Mulder/Scully (Scully/Krycek UST) Author on LJ: n/a Author Website: http://members.aol.com/xfileluv/RachelMain.htmWhy this must be read:Mulder and Scully are investigating a terrorist cell in New York when they discover connections to the Consortium. (This was started in S5 and goes A/U from there; any resemblance to later canon or perceived resemblance to later real-world events is coincidental.) This is a long, satisfying thriller, well-plotted, with clean and straightforward prose. My main quibbles are that it doesn't start in quite the right place--possibly an artifact of being posted as a WIP--and the last chapter seems slightly anticlimactic, but these are minor complaints given all the virtues of the story. I haven't selected an excerpt from it here because it's hard to find a single quote that does justice to all Rachel Howard's strengths: the suspenseful plotting, the graceful prose, the plausible and complex characterization. Rachel is just as good at hot sex scenes as she is at slam-bang action as she is at quiet character moments. Her main characters here are Mulder and Scully, but Skinner and Krycek also make significant--and well-done--appearances. "Above Rubies" | | |
