07:56 am Kitsunegari by Basingstoke (R)
Fandom: SMALLVILLE, with a guest appearance by Bruce Wayne
Pairing: Bruce/Lex
Author on LJ: [livejournal.com profile] basingstoke
Author Website: Basingstoke's home page

Why this must be read:
I like this story a lot because so many SV stories are all about the drama of the Clark/Lex dynamic, and the Smallville meteor weirdness factor gets ignored. This story reads more like slashy gen to me, with the focus on the wackiness that Smallville is capable of producing. I think this story isn't a true crossover (because it's Bruce Wayne, and not Batman whom we see in action). Also, if I were rec'ing for Batman, I don't think I'd choose this one because it's a true Smallville tale, starring yet another mutant. I also chose this story because I do love the Bruce/Lex pairing, almost as much as the CLex.

09:47 am Excitable by Shrift (NC17)
Fandom: DUE SOUTH
Pairing: Ray Kowalski/Benton Fraser
Author on LJ: [livejournal.com profile] shrift
Author Website: http://bifictionalbedlam.slashcity.net/shrift/index.html
Why this must be read:

Some of my favorite Due South stories are ones that pick up on a tiny little fact or detail from canon and manage to work it into a full blown (ond often, very hot) story. Excitable is definitely one of them.

Fraser comments in the episode Hawk and a Handsaw, how Diefenbaker is fascinated by blonds because he never saw people with blond hair in the North. Shrift manages to work this into a fic that will nearly melt your eyeballs right out of their sockets.

One of the most amazing things about Shrift, in my opinion, is that in every fandom she writes in (and lord, there are many), she's prolific, and talented and gets voices and mannerisms of characters so spot on you can very nearly see the exchanges that she writes, actually happening in canon.

Just - come here. Take a look. )

*swoons*

It's just - wow. Amazing, and HOT and funny, and includes two of my very favorite Ray Kowalski lines in a fic ever (and if you guess what they are I'll give you a cookie *g*) and really - I know I seem to be bossing you all around this month, but go! Read! NOW!

07:08 pm Repair, by Molly (PG13)
Fandom: FIREFLY
Pairing: Mal/Kaylee
Author on LJ: Unknown
Author’s Website: voyeuse.net
Why this must be read:

This is a story about Kaylee, dealing with her issues post-War Stories, which avoids dipping into melodrama and extreme angst. The story touches upon Kaylee’s life, pre-Serenity, her love for the ship, and her feelings for Mal, and the feelings expressed by Kaylee feel natural to her character.

She knows maternal instinct, and it comes naturally to her for Serenity. So she works, stays up late so that she can take apart the power junctions for the mess when nobody will need them, carefully clean every part because she can't replace them but she can keep them clean, she can do something to keep *these* in working order, safe and well and thrumming with life. She crawls through access panels that are really too small for her, finds things that were never really meant to be accessed. They're meant to last the life of the ship. They're meant to endure.

She's determined to make them last even longer. Make Serenity last longer. It's not much, but maybe she can make it be enough.

08:34 pm War by Joey51 (PG-13)
Fandom: THE O.C.

Pairing: N/A

Author on LJ: [livejournal.com profile] joey51

Author Website: unknown

Why this must be read:

I like the compressed time structure of this fic; the entire eight chapters take place over the course of a weekend soccer tournament. I also appreciate the fact that it features Ryan's somewhat unlikely friendship with Luke. The set-up: Ryan, almost against his better judgment, joins Luke at summer soccer camp, and they end up competing at a tournament against a very imposing rival team. I am the furthest thing from a sporty person, but I was fascinated by how much drama and angst the author was able to develop on the "battleground" of the soccer field. This is a rather engrossing look at the "jock" side of Ryan that does not get explored that often.

10:08 pm For Your Hot Heart [R/NC17] by Sullen Siren
Fandom: Angel
Pairing: Illyria/Wes/Gunn, Fred/Wes/Gunn, etc.
Author's URL: ???
Author's LJ: [livejournal.com profile] sullensiren
Why this MUST be read:

Written for the Illyria ficathon, this one impressed me with a pitch perfect Illyria voice and great cameos by some of the other major A:ts characters as well. It picks up after the series finale, and it shows where our heroes are now. I really just don't see enough well written Illyria fiction, so this one was a real treat.

10:21 pm A Long Road To Happiness by Lisa L (PG-13)
Sorry for the delay in fiction there. Small intrusion of real life.

Fandom: PRIDE AND PREJUDICE

Pairing: Elizabeth/Darcy

Author on lj: As far as I know, not.

Author's website: Also, as far as I know? Not.

Why this must be read-

This fandom seems to lend itself to AU's. In this story, it is supposed that our star- crossed lovers did not meet at Pemberley. As this is arguably, one of the more important scenes in the book, this story is pretty fantasically AU.

The real reason you should read this? Lisa L has got the Austenesque style down. This has points where I went "wow, is Jane Austen secretly alive, and writing this?" It is a bit long, and does drag at a few points, but the writing is really amazingly good.
