Fandom: Angel Pairing: Lindsey/Angel Author's Website: http://www.obsessedmuch.net/Author's LJ: obsessedmuchWhy this MUST be read: Lindsey/Angel is a pairing that just doesn't lend itself to fluffy, happy fics. When picturing the two of them, happily ever after just doesn't make a whole lot of sense. So when Lar took the "happily ever after" challenge and turned it on the boys, I was shocked (not to mention pleased) to see how well she made it work. While there is happiness and it'll leave you with a big smile on your face come the ending, it's not cloyingly sweet or sappy. The boys still have edges, and they still fight just as much as anything. But they're pretty and hot and as close to happy as I could realistically buy them being, so all is good. This is one of those fics I like to save for when I've had a hard day, and then I can pull it out and smile for a little while. A great little read. :) In Trade

Fandom: SMALLVILLE Pairing: Clark/Lex Authors on LJ: obsessedmuch and ethrosdemonAuthor Website: Obsessed Much and Biblioteque DiaboliqueWhy this must be read: Shine, Neon, and Bonfire are old favorites, and when I first read them, I was taken with this sympathetic, realistic portrayal of the pains of adolescence. Clark is so confused in these stories, and that fits the emotions I saw in Clark in the first two seasons. The Lex in this series is both less likable and recognizable, and he seems appropriately young; writers who make Lex seem like a 40 year old in a twentysomething's body annoy me. Lex in Smallville is still figuring out who he is and what he wants, and it's clear in canon that Clark is part of those things, somehow essential to Lex from the start. I also found this trilogy sexy--the awkwardly hot first-time sex seemed very real. ShineNeonBonfire

Fandom: DUE SOUTH Pairing: Ray Kowalski/Benton Fraser Author on LJ: kelliemAuthor Website: http://kellie.mrks.org/God - sorry! Sorry! I meant do do so many more recs this month but got all tied up in other crap (I know, I know. "Yeah, yeah," you're saying. "Save it, Nan") But really - I think one of the problems I have is that I have this list of things I want to rec, and then I'll go back and pick one and reread it - you know - just to make sure I remember it correctly, and then...well, then I spend the next three days rereading every Kellie Matthes story out there, so yeah. Not so much with the reccing. Anyway - Why this must be read: ( Which I will put, behind the cut tag )Thermoform

Fandom: POPSLASH (NSync) Pairing: Chris/JC Author on LJ: nopseudAuthor Website: No pSeud AttachedWhy this must be read:I'm not sure whether I'm seeing things because when I looked back at the stories that have been recced already - I can't find one by nopseud. Maybe I'm missing something, but I checked here. This isn't her longest or most well known story. I'm not even sure it's my favourite (I admit to a deep love for "and every dog his day"), but it's beautifully self-contained early 'Sync with a JC who had not yet come into his full hotness. I forget how much I love this story in between reading it, it's like a fabulous surprise every time. I really must apologise for my overabundance of Chris stories this month, but what can you do? ;) Found In Translation

Fandom: OZ Pairing: None Author on LJ: ?? Why this must be read: It's a look at Christmas in Oz and what, if anything, differentiates it from any other day. The wry, resigned narrator is Augustus Hill, but the short story isn't weighed down by ponderous allegories or metaphors. It's just Hill, keenly observing the other inmates and realizing that the worst day of his life on the outside was better than any holiday in Oz. Days of the Year

Fandom: FARSCAPE Pairing: ensemble cast Author on LJ: kerlin Author Website: http://kerlin.midnight-graffiti.com/Why this must be read: Some fics read like an episode, others as a novel whose genesis might have been an episode. The world Kerlin builds in Dreams Deferred reminds me of Alan Dean Foster's Splinter of the Mind's Eye... thick jungle, caves and an element of claustrophobia, and an alien race that is well fleshed-out. Action/adventure and angst combine to set just the right pace for this pleasantly lengthy fic. You'll laugh, you'll cry, you'll hold your breath... but you'll never be bored.
