Fandom: THE WEST WING Pairing: Josh/Donna Author on LJ: mojober & likebunnies Author Website: MoJo Rising & The Cozy PlaceWhy this must be read:Back in the halcyon days of Sorkin's West Wing, there was a mailing list on Yahoo known as 'The State of the Union'. It was *the* place for smut, and I spent many a happy hour trawling through posts looking for what was good and juicy from the computers of fans across the globe. The two fantastic individuals who ran that list set some extremely popular challenges, which always seemed to bring out the best in the writers who participated. They also wrote some damn good fic. 'Campaign Promises' was a major WIP, which was finally finished in January of last year, and is (as far as I'm concerned) one of the best pieces of pre-Admin fiction in existence. To truly understand the complexities of Josh and Donna you need to grasp the relationship they had before they made it to the White House, and this story gives you a fabulous possible version of events, plus some smut for good measure... I'm pretty certain the List has passed into the realms of history (though both List Mommas are still writing in other fandoms) but the fic remains, and is worth more than a passing glance. We'll begin with this one: Fandom: Oz Pairing: Beecher-O'Reily Author on LJ: actizeraAuthor website: Actizera's FicWhy this must be read: Because the author captures the feel of S1 Oz -- and S1 Beecher and O'Reily, in particular -- so perfectly. The reader is right back there, looking at Oz through Beecher's eyes and experiencing the misery and desperation (desperate to make a human connection, just to know he's not alone) right along with him. ( an excerpt to illustrate )Getting inside Beecher's head is one of the tougher tasks around this fandom, but actizera is someone who hits a home run out of the park every time she explores this territory. Fandom: Starsky and Hutch Pairing: Starsky/Hutch Fic Link: http://meandthee.shahrazad.net/display.php?storyid=298Why this must be read: Those of us familiar with the episode knows that Sweet Revenge is one of the most emotional, powerful, and tense episodes ever made. One factor of this is Paul's directing, another the fact that everything was ending, but above all else was the fact that we were living Hutch's nightmare. We were right there on the edge with him and we knew that one single thread was holding him together. Paula takes one of the powerful scenes in the episode and shows us what happened immediately prior. Hutch needs something to focus on until Starsky can be with him again and if listening to his voice will bring his partner out of a coma, then he's gonna do it. It's therapy for both of them. I continue, and my voice is a lot softer. "Could you wake up, Starsk? Could you do that for me? Because I'm—I'm just real close to losing it here." I take a deep breath and the words rush out of me before I am able to stop them. "I know how much you hate soapy scenes, Starsk, but I d-d-don't—" Fucking stutter, damn it. Fandom: DUE SOUTH Pairing: Fraser/Kowalski Author on LJ: Crys in SpaceAuthor Website: Chez CrysWhy this must be read:I love a story that combines an interesting case, plenty of angst without going over the top, good dialogue and great interaction between Ray and Fraser, and of course, good sex. This story balances all of those elements nicely and even throws in a little humor here and there. Crys pays attention to details without getting bogged down in them. This detail adds to the overall sense of believability and enjoyment. All of her DS stories deserve to be read, but this is definitely one of my personal favorites. Blind Justice | | |
