Fandom: BATTLESTAR GALACTICA 2003 Pairing: Gen, with a side of Kara/Lee Author on LJ: sanggaAuthor Website: Published fic on her LJ and at SilverlakeWhy this must be read:I've had a hard time picking just one of sangga's stories to rec, but I finally decided upon 'in the months after his death'. It details the highly plausible back story of the days and months following Zak Adama's death, but more than that, it's a look at Lee and Kara -- rose coloured glasses firmly tucked away. sangga's unique style is perfect for BSG. It's stylized, but not overdone. Substance with flair, and if you're not careful, it will knock you firmly on your arse, ( right from the start ). in the months after his death

Fandom: FARSCAPE Pairing: Author on LJ: cretkidAuthor Website:http://www.frontiernet.net/~cretkid/weblog/wip.htmlWhy this must be read: Eden is the companion piece to Consequence Free and it showcases Cret's talents to the fullest. The prose is more spare than much of her work, but the momentum and pacing are all characteristic of her style. The story is filtered through Chiana's experience, her persepective of coming back into a situation after having been away, having been part of something new and dangerous and different, and she comes back not changed so much as matured. The story is quick and fluid and powerful, textured with all of the history these characters share as well as the individual shadings of who they are and who they've become. She'd find a new hole in the wall every couple of weekens; wouldn't do to stay in one place too long. It was asking for trouble, and she didn't want trouble. Just some peace. Some quiet. Where she didn't have to think about mourning Leviathans, fek-faces with leather fetishes, the Old Man and Aeryn and their new narl.
About how, if given the chance again, she still didn't want to be the wife of a farmer and hated herself for thinking like that. From Eden. Be sure to feed the author.

Fandom: THE MAN FROM U.N.C.L.E. Pairing: Napoleon Solo/Illya Kuryakin Author on LJ: elfinessyAuthor Website: http://www.sundive.co.uk/Why this must be read: UNCLE fans often say that Napoleon and Illya would do anything for each other. Well, this story is all about what Napoleon would do if he had to, to keep Illya safe, to keep him alive. And it's a story of betrayal and loyalty and what, in the final analysis, is the most important thing in both their lives. Mark and April also play a part; I know some fans don't particularly care for these two but I do (as long as neither is a love interest.) There's a scene between Mark and Napoleon, more of a remembering, actually, that I find myself rereading all the time, so I can't imagine this story without him, at least. Given the times, I can readily imagine the scenario of this story being played out. It's not how I'd want Napoleon and Illya's "final" affair to end but it would certainly be more than possible. And Elfin does a fantastic job of getting across both men's feelings to what has been done, not just to, but for them. The Final Affair

Fandom: ALIAS Pairing: Vaughn/Weiss Author on LJ: shadesofbrixtonAuthor Website: -- Why this must be read: The first time I read this story, I laughed so loudly that I attracted the attention of everyone in the room. The second and third time I read it, I laughed even more. It has all the wonderful things we love about Weiss in it, and all the things that make us roll our eyes about Vaughn, and they come together beautifully. It's smart and slashy and definitely a must read. Just don't drink or eat anything while you do. Five Things Wrong

Fandom: HIGHLANDER Pairing: Duncan/Methos Author on LJ: suzecarolAuthor Website: The SlumWhy this must be read: Imagine this: Methos and Duncan make a bet, whoever can gross each other out the most with the most disgusting food they've eaten wins. (Joe is the judge). So, Duncan wins and Methos' becomes his 'slave.' Hilarity and hot sex ensues. A funny, sexy story. ( Oh, towel boy! )Peeling the Grapes of Wrath

Fandom: HIGHLANDER Pairing: Duncan/Methos Author on LJ: lanningAuthor Website: Lanning Cook's FictionWhy this must be read: Lanning is able to capture in just a few pages all the emotion, passion and underlying strife between Duncan and Methos. In this story, Methos is afraid of what their relationship means, Duncan is not. Beautifully crafted, evocative and yes, both men are completely in character; this gem is sometimes overshadowed by Lanning's other Highlander story, Sacred Trust. However, I feel it deserves its own time in the light. In A Name

Fandom: STARGATE: ATLANTIS Pairing: McKay/Sheppard Author on LJ: astolatAuthor Website: http://www.intimations.org/fanfic/Why this must be read:"Wait, wait a second," John said, sounding totally baffled. "Are you trying to dump me?"
Rodney stopped, annoyed. "Well, I'm sorry if it's a new experience for you!"
John sputtered, "That's not -- we aren't -- I didn't even -- " He still sounded outraged more than anything.
"And it's not that I don't want to!" Rodney said. "It's just -- Look, chances are this was not our last near-death experience, and it's bad enough trying to get past the inevitable panic attacks and hysteria when it's just my near-death experience I'm freaking out over, without having to worry about someone I -- someone I -- really care about."
John's mouth was standing open, and he shut it, then he opened it again and shut it again, and finally said, faintly, " -- really care about?"
Rodney rolled his eyes. "No, I'll just let anyone who comes by my room have me for the price of a bottle of vodka," he said. Then he had an attack of honesty and added, "Well, I mean, probably I would, if they were hot. But that's not the point. The point is, I just can't. I'm sorry. I'm really sorry, but I've hit the ceiling on stress as it is, and I'm going to, um, go get something to eat now," backing towards the door, because he didn't really trust himself not to cave if John pushed much harder.
"Really care about?" John repeated, still sounding dazed.
Rodney fled.( why you should read this story (if the teaser didn't grab you )Oblivious

Fandom: LORD OF THE RINGS Pairing: None Author on LJ: casapazzoAuthor Website: FF.net’s profileWhy this must be read:This story is what cemented my love for the LOTR fandom. And even more so, for a character in particular that I won’t mention because it would spoil the fun. This fic ties in perfectly with canon, allowing two Men to come full circle as one’s promise to the other is finally fulfilled. But, borrowing the author’s summary: Ever so slightly AU; on the Paths of the Dead, not all the ghosts are strangers. From the Grey Twilight
