12:50 pm Morire by Mara Celes (PG-13)
Fandom: SMALLVILLE
Pairing: Clark/Lex
Author on LJ: [livejournal.com profile] maraceles
Author Website: Lex Domination
Why this must be read:

While trying to kill Superman, Lex suddenly realizes the person he's trying to kill is his best friend. What does he do? Try to kill the man who betrayed him, of course. With a bit of subtelty, it should be easy, right? Not quite.

I like stories that can surprise me, Morire is one of them.

Why this must be read:

This is the remixed version of Morire, now told by Clark. You have to read this story, just to hear Cark think.

It's not that you ever meant to lie to him; it's just that you always have. And when Superman came along, it actually became easier. You split your relationship with Lex in two. There was you, Clark, and you could be his best friend, and love him, and turn a blind eye to the secrets at Lexcorp. And then there was Superman, who was you, but wasn't. Superman kept Lex from going too far, which meant you didn't have to. And this way, when Lex was mad, he was mad at Superman. And when Superman broke his toys, Lex came home to play with you.

03:15 pm The Midnight Clear Affair by P.R. Zed (PG)
Fandom: THE MAN FROM U.N.C.L.E.
Pairing: Napoleon Solo/Illya Kuryakin
Author on LJ: [livejournal.com profile] przed
Author Website: http://przed.com/fic/uncle/index.html
Why this must be read: I liked the way time and place is worked in this story. By switching both the povs and chronology, the reader is allowed to know both men's perspectives as the action unfolds. The pain each man feels, one physical, one emotional, is an echo of the other.

There's a preciseness to PR Zed's writing that allows feeling through without a lot of clutter. So, though those feelings are sparingly remarked upon, especially Napoleon's, they are always there, like an undercurrent quietly flowing beneath the words. It makes for a powerfully emotional story. And I absolutely adore the last line.

Oh, and did I mention it was written for me? :-)

04:26 pm I Don't Want To Get Over This by Torchthisnow (PG-13)
Fandom: THE OC
Pairing: Summer/Anna, Summer/Seth
Author on LJ: [livejournal.com profile] torchthisnow
Author Website: OC fic is memoried here.

Why this must be read:

Two girls and a guy: Oldest story in the book, right? But Summer and Anna snap, crackle, pop with strangely friendly antagonism, like they know something we don't. In this story, set between seasons one and two, Summer escapes the lingering memory of Seth's abandonment by going where everyone would be least likely to look for her -- Anna's. The author nails the two girls' voices, and even through the sweet sexiness, there's a little melancholy, which is just how I like it.

08:31 pm Problem by Remy (G)
Fandom: THE OC
Pairing: None -- Ryan, Trey
Author on LJ: [livejournal.com profile] remyheart
Author Website: The Control Panel

Why this must be read:

There was a moment in the finale when cut for spoilers. )

This takes place before all of that, during the pilot, and has no spoilers whatsoever. It's not long, so I'm not going to excerpt, but the language is precise and bright and Ryan feels just the right age -- a little younger than he is now, still a little more trusting and full of faith in his big brother's ability to fix what goes wrong. But he's also hardly a child.

10:05 pm First Come, First Served by Mairead Triste and Amy B. (NC-17)
Fandom: HARD CORE LOGO
Pairing: Billy/Joe
Author on LJ: not as far as I know
Author Website: Amy B.: http://merrygoround.slashcity.net/index2.html
Mairead: http://business.mho.net/houseofslack/mslash.htm
Why this must be read:

This remains one of my favourite That Night stories. Nine times out of ten, it's written as a rape, whether or not Billy was conscious at the time. I think it's just as likely--if not more--that it was a bet or a dare, because Joe is always pushing. The character dynamic here is awesome.
What he wants, what Joe wants, it's all mixed up in his head, and post-show Joe is dangerously 'up' when the gig was good (which it was, it was good tonight), and post-show Joe is fucking *deadly* when the gig went badly, and in either case he hasn't learned to stay away, has he? And it comes down to this, and it's funny how it's such a shock to be here, to hear this, to see Joe's eyes like this, playful and daring and *pushing* at him when he's expected it, been waiting for it, all along.

10:08 pm To Have and To Hold, by Lady Rheena (R)
Fandom: LORD OF THE RINGS
Pairing: Legolas/OFC
Author on LJ: none
Author Website: Elven Dreams
Why this must be read:

Wait! Don’t leave! Don’t let the Legolas/OFC title scare you. I know the LOTR fandom is infested with Mary Sue’s, and that most of them have the hots of Legolas—this is not the case. OK, so Nessa (our OFC) does find Legolas attractive (and who wouldn’t?) but she does not make it easy for the Elven Prince to romance her.

11:52 pm Conviction, by Alantie (NC-17)
Fandom: QUEER AS FOLK: US
Pairing: Brian/Justin
Author on LJ: [livejournal.com profile] _alantie
Author Website: http://www.livejournal.com/community/_meansfallen

Why this must be read:

What if Brian Kinney's father had his way and beat Brian into the closet? What if Brian spent his life as a straight man, engaged to Lindsay Peterson and about to have a baby? What if the straight Brian Kinney met Justin Taylor as he stood on the precipice of sealing his fate?

[livejournal.com profile] _alantie answers all of these questions with her straight!Brian epic, "Conviction." Alantie has the ability to write like she is painting poetry with her words, and to use these paintings to transport the reader into the minds and lives of the characters. A lame little introduction could never do justice to this achingly beautiful story.
