Fandom: PIRATES OF THE CARIBBEAN Pairing: Sparrington Author on LJ: _ceeAuthor Website: buddhist punkWhy this must be read: Short, and poetic, and a little rough around the edges (emotionally, not stylistically or technically), I love this fic for its unique viewpoint on the characters and for the way it kind of tugs at the suggestion of angst without clobbering you with it. It's amazing what cee can do with so few words, really; as short as this fic is, I just keep coming back to it. (While you're there, read "the dragon's mouth" as well.) some hae meat

Fandom: STARSKY AND HUTCH Pairing: None Author on LJ: No Author Website: Leaning Birch ProductionsWhy this must be read: Rae is one of the best S&H writers out there. Her writing is seamless and so well-written, any time I read something she's written, I almost hate for it to end. This Time is set during the events of The Plague, and is a "what if" story with an interesting twist. It isn't a deathfic, though it may appear to be at first. It's sort of like the X-Files episode "Monday"... and to say more will ruin it. ( A snippet... )And it just gets better from there. Starsky's angst and determination to get it right this time skirt the edges of insanity, and that insanity, combined with Starsky's love for Hutch, and his obligation to duty is simply beautiful. And Rae's writing is, too. Read and enjoy... and don't forget to send the author feedback. This Time

(Hi, it's me again from last month. I messed up an entry and am therefore back today to correct it! Anyway, I enjoyed reccing for you and hope you enjoyed reading the recs!) Fandom: Harry Potter/Everwood Pairing: Bright Abbott/? Author on LJ: cccariocaWhy this must be read:This is my cross-over rec (just pretend it's the 15th of July again!) I found this story when I was reading Everwood fanfiction – (I still have never seen Everwood, so don’t let that stop you from reading this!) by reading the prequel involving the Weasley twins and Ephram. That Old Black Magic is hilarious, but I’ve always preferred “That Wicked Witchcraft”. It’s more about Witchcraft and Wizardry than about HP characters (there’s really only one as far as I remember), but I like the way cccarioca invents a sort-of University of Medicine, Wizard style, and how she integrates Bright into the World of Magic. And I did quite enjoy the ending, which I didn’t see coming at all – call me clueless! Enjoy!

Direct Link: AnastomosisFandom: Smallville Pairing: Clark/Lex Rating: PG-13 Author on LJ: alee_gothphyleAuthor Website: Flowers on the Razor WireThis is the third of four recommendations around the theme of Clark's alieness. Why this must be read: Words that come to mind to describe this story include: Gut-wrenching. Powerful. Poignant. Heartbreaking. "Anastomosis" turns canon on its ear and takes a look at what would happen if Jor-El got his way and not even love could stop it. ( An excerpt )Alee explores the dark side of Clark's alien potential, the conflict between his humanity and what he is destined to become. A beautifully written and fascinating subversion of the Superman myth. Anastomosis

Fandom: Doctor Who Pairing: Doctor/Master implied Author on LJ: severaAuthor Website: unknown Why this must be read: The Doctor tends to be a bit unstable shortly following regeneration, and when in that state he gets himself in a situation that only his oldest enemy can help him out of, the tension builds. This fic does a good job of examining the Doctor and Master's relationship, who they are, who they were, and how they manage to coexist in the universe. It is a bit batty and a bit sentimental, and generally fabulous Crossed Paths

Fandom: STAR TREK: TOS Pairing: Spock / Sulu / Uhura / Chekov Author on LJ: Unknown Author Website: Little Russian Bedtime Stories has stories by this author and others Why this must be read:There are plenty of angst-filled pon farr stories (see the previous rec), but there are far fewer downright hilarious pon farr stories. "St. George and the Gecko" is one of the latter. Spock enters pon farr ahead of schedule, stuck on a remote station with three other crewmembers - Sulu, Uhura, and Chekov. It's mate or die for Spock, and if the other crewmembers don't pick someone to mate with Spock, he'll die. This story still has me giggling when I reread it - the characterizations are all excellent, from take-charge Uhura to resourceful Sulu to clueless but willing Chekov. And I just love the title. The sequel, "Enhanced", doesn't quite sustain the breathy tone of the original story, but is a well-written exploration of the consequences of the outcome of "St. George and the Gecko". Spock's motivations are a bit more difficult to understand here, but moments of humor and a great original character with an unpronouncable name make this story well worth reading, as well. Fandom: POPSLASH Pairing: Chris/JC Author on LJ: merryishAuthor Website: Any Road--PopslashWhy this must be read: I know I already recced a Chris/JC story, and I said I'd vary the pairings, but this story is too funny and charming to skip. Merry writes JC and Chris at their most extreme--two random, hilarious, out of touch people trying to woo each other. Both men think they're being obvious in their intentions, but the other person has no idea what's happening. Fantastic. Chris tries to seduce JC by leaving him green Pixie Stix under his pillow, because Chris knows they're JC's favorite. Except Chris forgets to leave a note with the Pixie Stix: ( Disgruntled tooth fairies )Meanwhile, JC labors long and hard trying to write a song for Chris that describes the depth of his feelings. Anyone who's ever listened to a song written by JC can guess what miscommunication occurs out of that: ( From Wolf to Beautiful Butterfly )This story is 92K of total hilarity as our boys stumble and fumble around blindly. Go. Read. Laugh. It'll do you good. wolves and boybands mate for life
