Why this must be read:

Because it's pornalicious. I keep coming across voyeurism fic in this fandom and it's just... a bit more delicious than it should be, really. When the person one should be macking it with won't do anything about the situation, a girl's gotta do what a girl's gotta do. She might not have to do it with the door open, but when said Person wanders by, anything he sees that he doesn't like is entierly his own fault. Oh my!

Fandom: DC COMICS

Author on LJ: [livejournal.com profile] firesignwriter, but she's no longer in the fandom
Author Website: It's gone. At least it's not where I last looked for it. ::sniff::
Why this must be read:

It rocks. Like a giant rocking thing. Okay, so even non-DC fans know about Jason Todd, the second Robin, who was killed by popular vote of fans, right? Well, a lot of folks figure poor Jason got a bum deal, and there are any number of fics that portray possible futures that involve Jason alive.

This is one of my favorites :)

In Kaylee's Dracoverse, Jason survived the Joker's attack, but became estranged from Batman. He's still in Gotham, though, and he's carved out a nice little life for himself. Naturally, things go wrong and life moves on.

Kaylee wrote several stories in this 'verse, and numerous other excellent writers, such as [livejournal.com profile] heatherly and [livejournal.com profile] frito_kal joined in. Unfortunately, those stories are scattered across the Net and require some searching to find. But they're worth it for the interesting characters and fantastic writing.

Here There Be, Chapter One--For subsequent chapters, I'm afraid you need to replace the "one" in the URL with "two" through "five". Or click on stories at the top. Kaylee's Dracoverse stories are halfway down the page or so.

Why this must be read:

This is one of those stories you can't put down, the kind that make you fall in love with the characters all over again. It's a Hankfic written by someone who is actually a scientist and brings that thrill of discovery and experimentation alive, the climax is heartwrenching, and the perspective on Beast, Wolverine, Professor X, etc. is truly refreshing.

What I absolutely don't get at all was why any of my more deserving colleagues would refuse to make a *paid* trip over the weekend to NY to deliver a box, *and* get the chance to visit the lab of, maybe even *talk* to, one of the most *brilliant* researchers in biochemistry and human physiology of the country. Who also happened to be the least public one. Geez, my first day in this lab I was handed eleven papers to read for the next day. Five of those papers where co-authored by this guy, and all but one cited his work, but when I asked about him, no one had even met him at a scientific meeting. And they didn't *jump* at this chance?

Fandom: FIREFLY
Pairing: Simon/River

Author Website: Compromising Positions
Why this must be read:

This is more than slightly dark, but I keep coming back to it for the characters. It's CSI with River impulse control problems, but Eleanor has a very deft touch with Simon's reactions.

"Simon, are you... Forgive my bluntness, but are you all right? Is there something wrong with River?"

Simon laughs shortly. It's an ugly sound. "You know, I'm beginning to think there is."

"What--"

He shakes his head quickly. "No, I didn't mean that. I just... This...hasn't been a good night. For either of us."

Why this must be read:

Hello again, fellow addicts. After a rollercoaster of a couple weeks, I am back! I'm sure you've missed me. *snicker*

This is one of those stories that you can't neatly peg as being Angel or Buffy, as it has a pretty good mix of both casts. I'm going to call it Angel for this rec, since it takes place primarily in LA.

Spike has counted a lot of days in his time. Dawn's starting to do the same. Post "The Gift". Long, involved, and certainly worth the read.

Author on LJ: unknown
Author Website:http://victorian.fortunecity.com/literary/196/index.htm
Why this must be read:

This story shows the remarkable partnership Bodie and Doyle have,it probably falls in the category of pre-slash.

Bodie has a couple of days off and Doyle is still on sick leave after a particularly nasty case where Doyle has been held hostage by a sadistic nutter.

Then Bodie gets a phone call, his still shell-shocked partner wanted to get a hair cut and something has triggered a memory in Doyle and he loses it.
To help Doyle, Bodie has to find out what exactly happened to him.

The story is told in the present with Bodie trying to help Doyle and with flash backs of the terrible ordeal Doyle went through.

Bodie is prepared to do everything to help Doyle come to terms with what happened to him.

Why this must be read: In "The Gathering," Connor MacLeod fought Slan Quince; Slan sent him over a bridge into the river. Duncan fought Slan later; Duncan took his head. Richie Ryan saw both fights, and saw Duncan bring Connor up out of the river later. With all that, how in the hell did Duncan MacLeod get a street-rat to come stay with him? Ali decided to write it and see.

I love Duncan and Tessa in this, and Richie's street punk paranoia, but what I really love is watching the MacLeods make sure matters go the way they want. "Be prepared?" Yeah, you could say that.
