Why this must be read:

This was one of the first fics I read in the X-men fandom. It's AU, but it's got feeling to it. It goes back to the Labs and brings them into the plot line. JJ is an great author and pulls this off amazingly well, like she always does. I'd recommend anything by here - though this is by far my favorite. It's full of sad heartbreak and just the right amount of sunbreaks. It's worth the long haul it takes to read it.

Why this must be read: Third in the Classic Recs for this month, and you might have noticed I'm a Clex girl who likes happy endings. This story is described by the authors as "Epic Hooker Fic", but it's a lot more than that. It's intense and compelling, and you'll want it to be about so much more than the money. You'll love Clark as the inexperienced Kent-Boy Rent!Boy trying to save the family farm, and Lex who tries to resist the charms of innocence while still trying to play the Big Bad Luthor. They're so screwed. And hey, any fic that features Clark admitting to a boy crush on Jean-Luc Picard is all right in my book. **G**

Why this must read: Because it's very good!!! Very very good. I'm not a great fan of the "what happened before" (Pre Way Back) stories but this one is splendid. All along the show I had this feeling that Avon and Vila might have met before... And here it is.

First of all the characters are perfectly true to themselves. A smart, cunning, funny, warm Vila, with yet no trace of the further bitterness (I'm a firm believer that Vila is much smarter than he lets us know) confronts a wounded, shielded, wary and finally fragile Avon. The voices are perfect, nothing wrong or awkward about them.

Second point; there's a very clever plot. At last we know why Avon decided to take up a criminal career; and we know why Vila was arrested, and how they all were manipulated, Vila being the most manipulated of all -but then Avon is being manipulated too and they both fail in the end. The story fits perfectly into canon.

Third point; the story shows the birth of a very fragile and constantly threatened friendship between two people who have nothing in common but still appreciate each other a lot (at least until Orbit. I hate this ep.).

And fourth... Do you really need a fourth reason?

Vig/Orli is my LotRiPS OTP, but I increasingly find myself drawn to Monaboyd stories, particularly those with a bit of angst. This fic is one of those that manages to break your heart with just a few well-turned phrases. It's a little taste of what might have happened during the recording of Pandemoniumfromamerica, particularly Dom's song "Shadow." I love this fic because it takes what might otherwise be considered a somewhat silly record (Viggo plays the *wheelchair* on one song, for christsake) and makes it about something more-- The push and pull of Dom and Billy's relationship.

Billy tips his beer, swallows, and through the rush of noise and smell of sweat and pot in the room I feel the tips of his fingers circle my knee. Light squeeze at the end and by then my heart's getting cozy with my tonsils. There's nothing noble about giving in. But then there's nothing noble about a clean record, either. What the fuck does it matter, anyway? He'll be gone the second the recording's through and that's that. Done and done.

Doing the right thing doesn't apply to real people, I think.

This story is a AU of certain Season 3 events. Vecchio is undercover and finds out that Fraser is being beaten by the mobsters that he currently is infiltrating. It deals with his urge to do anything to try and help Fraser, while wrestling with possible consquences of being discovered.

Throughout this story you really do feel Vecchio's pain as he tries to comphrehend the situation. He can't leave his friend behind, and you just hope that he doesn't.
