Fandom: STAR TREK VOY Pairing: Janeway/Chakotay, Janeway/Mark Author on LJ: none Author Website: m.c. moose's voyager stories (Note: this page contains a number of broken links, but all stories can be accessed via Trekiverse) Why this must be read:Another lovely Janeway tale from the master, this story has its roots in an event from TNG. Written long before "Equinox" was a demonic twinkle in TPTB's eye, "The Road Not Taken" explores the premise of Voyager encountering another Starfleet vessel in the DQ, and Janeway being forced to reevaluate some of her decisions as a result. As always, m.c. combines great characterization complete with an interesting and well-developed plot. This ends my Trek recs for the month. I hope you've enjoyed them as much as I have. Fandom: SMALLVILLE Pairing: Clark/Lex Author on LJ: zechsy and tziAuthor Website: Asylum and wufeinomiko.orgWhy this must be read: This is my last rec for the month, and it's been a delight rec'cing for Smallville. I wanted to go out with a wham-bang, so here's one of my all-time favourite stories by two writers I adore. You will learn things from this story. You will receive an education of the highest calibre, and you will laugh your beautiful ass off while doing it. My vocabulary is now complete with more words for penis than you can shake a trouser-snake at, and this story led to an interesting revelation in the category of Slash has Corrupted my Brain! But beyond that, this is the AU where Clark is working part-time (when he's not being a reporter/Superman) in an adult video store where he has been the star of the "Man of Steel" porn series. He also serves as the model for the store's sideline "toy" business. The day when a certain handsome, bald man walks in and buys the large, purple vibrator, Model CK--well, nobody's life is the same after that. The authors call it a PWP, and sure, that's it - 186k worth of PWP that's blatant and funny and unapologetically porny. You might blush a little, but you won't be disappointed. Fandom: QUEER AS FOLK US Author on LJ: throughadoorAuthor's Website: [through a] doorPairing: Brian/Justin Why this must be read:Sometimes you read a story that is so true to the characters, you can almost convince yourself that's what really happened in canon. Set between the end of 510 and the middle of 511, it's a look at Brian and Justin that's so perfect, it makes my heart ache a little. It's the moments between the moments, as the author says, and they are sometimes the most important ones of all. ( a small example... )that's great, it starts with an earthquake

So, we’re nearly at the end of the month, and I haven’t posted *half* as many recs as I’d hoped to. An injured hand made typing a real pain, but if the recs I *did* post whetted your appetite at all, please do check out the fandom overview and the links posted there (or just head on over to my rec site: ireadthat/tag/noir).
Fandom: NOIR Pairing: Mireille/Kirika Author on LJ: Unknown Author’s Website: FF.net profile Why this must be read:
Another story set post-series, this one heavy on the spoilers. Pretty, bittersweet, and ultimately hopeful--Kirika and Mireille put the past to rest, and face the future together.

Fandom: NOIR Pairing: Mireille & Kirika Author on LJ: Unknown Author’s Website: FF.net profileWhy this must be read: Set early in their partnership, Mireille struggles to deal with Kirika's presence in her home, and in her life. I liked Mireille’s sharpness, her jumbled resentment and nascent affection towards Kirika. The thought occurs to her, over the delicate curls of steam rising from her mug: it is, Mireille feels, a little like how someone would be aware of a thorn on a flower stalk.
(Or a live bullet in a gun barrel.)
To be exact: her persistent sensitivity to having Kirika as a flatmate is...jarring.
The point is that Mireille's been alone, for as long as she cares to remember, and having another person sharing her home takes getting used to. To say the least. Calibration

Fandom: STARGATE ATLANTIS Pairing: Rodney McKay/John Sheppard Author on LJ: misspamelaAuthor Website: Miss Pamela's World TourWhy this must be read:It's not often that I really like background stories -- especially when both of the main characters are pretty much blank slates -- they always tends to veer dramatically from how I see the characters, but misspamela weaves a wonderful set of stories with this trilogy. I love the format -- McKay's story, Sheppard's story and their story -- with the way it builds and fills in the holes along the way. ( excerpt )Background Noise

Fandom: SPORTS NIGHT Pairing: Danny/Casey Author on LJ: out_thereAuthor Website: Amazed by the MathematicsWhy this must be read:Okay, suspend your disbelief for a moment: imagine a world where Danny and Casey switch bodies. No, really. No, really. They get dressed in each other's clothes. They go to work and pretend to be each other. Casey notices Kim's shoes. Dan flirts with Casey, or with himself, depending on how you look at it. And then they switch back. And if you imagine a world where this could happen, well, this story is pretty much what it would look like. ( snippet )This is my last rec in this fandom for the month, and I couldn't resist ending with this story. As the story summary says: "every fandom needs at least one body-swapping story." Fandom: LOST/CRUEL INTENTIONS Pairing: Charlie/Kathryn, Shannon/Boone, others hinted Author on LJ: mecurial_witAuthor Website: My Skyhawke AccountWhy this must be read: Sorry about this - I thought I didn't have anything to rec for crossover day, and then scrabbling around in my rec file, I found this. I really want to rec it, so I hope no-one minds that I massively missed the proper day. Given how Lost is all about the connections, this is a fic that should please thoroughly. There are connections here by the bucketload - some are scary, some are sweet. Some make you think. All the characters get a walk-on, and the inevitability of it all just steam-rollers you as you read. My favourite parts - Kathryn wearing low heels to make herself shorter than Charlie, Teresa the nanny jumping from the frying pan to the fire, Hurley knowing - just knowing - that's it's all his fault. Spoilers up to Deus Ex Machina. He’d lost. Fuck it. Time to cut and run.
“Well, J. Have a great life, darlin’.” He tilted his head and smirked, showing her what she was missing; not because it was going to help at this stage, but out of a perverse kind of pride. He had no doubt that her life was going to be messy and boring and eventually ruinous. It helped, somewhat.Where All the Veins Meet
