09:23 am Paranoia by Lucy Hale (NC-17)
Fandom: INVISIBLE MAN
Pairing: Fawkes/Hobbes
Author Website: ...now I will tell you
Why this must be read:

I'm kicking this tour of the I-Man fandom off with what is probably the best-known and best-loved slash story in the fandom. Lucy Hale is one of the top two writers in the I-Man fandom (the other being Chalie Ruocco) and Paranoia not only captures Darien and Bobby perfectly, it makes great use of Bobby's ex-wife, Vivian, to show what it takes to love someone with serious mental problems.

His hand froze halfway to the light.

He had locked the door.

Of course he had. He always did. He locked the door to the apartment, and the door to his bedroom. He had the light on in the living room to make it appear to anyone looking through a window that someone was still awake in the apartment. He had his alarm set to go off if the door was opened.

His hand hesitated in midair, then dropped, leaving the light on. He knew, absolutely knew that he'd done everything he had to.

But what if he hadn't?

10:37 am Link in the Chain by Ozchick (PG-13)
Fandom: Enterprise
Pairing: None
Author on LJ: [livejournal.com profile] ozchick
Author Website: None
Why this must be read: [livejournal.com profile] ozchick has a knack for making you feel like you're watching the actual show. When she writes a story you're left thinking, "Why didn't the writers do an ep like that?" Especially if you were a Hoshi fan. :-)

The story has a great flow, incredible characterization, and Hoshi gets to be a hero! Totally worth your time. Trust me. I'm always right about these things. ;)

Author Summary: Hoshi, Trip and Malcolm investigate a derelict ship...

03:32 pm Twelve by Rheanna (R)
Hi again! This month you're gonna get double bang for your buck from me, as I'm reccing both Battlestar Galactica and Smallville. So, to kick things off, have a novel...

Fandom: BATTLESTAR GALACTICA 2003
Pairing: Kara/Lee
Author on LJ: [livejournal.com profile] rheanna27
Author Website: Golden Maze
Why this must be read: This long, angsty, utterly riveting novel is one of the most amazing pieces of writing to come out of the new Battlestar Galactica fandom. Just... superlatives fail. It's that good.

03:50 pm Sleep While I Drive by Jenn (NC-17)
Fandom: SMALLVILLE
Pairing: Clark/Lex
Author on LJ: [livejournal.com profile] seperis
Author Website: indulgence
Why this must be read: When I checked the previous Smallville recs, I was surprised but thrilled to discover that this wasn't yet listed, as it's one of my all time favourite stories and it's such a joy to share it. The author calls "Sleep While I Drive" schmoopy, but it's not. It's a dreamy, surreal roadtrip, full of fascinating emotional undercurrents that will seduce you and keep you reading for hours. It's about all the ways that Lex needs to become his own person, but can't as long as he's Lionel's boy. It's about Clark learning that trust isn't what his father says it is, but a decision he has to make himself. And yes, it's about love.

05:44 pm But Not For Me by Jane FAIRFAX (NC-17)
Fandom: THE MAN FROM UNCLE
Pairing: Napoleon/Illya
Author on LJ: Unknown
Author Website: Unknown

Hello! I am Francis Kerst and I'll drive the Crack Van for "Man from U.N.C.L.E." this month. My task is not easy for I am afraid most of my favourite stories have already been recced here and a lot of other ones are only to be found in zines. Anyway I'll try to present a choice as wide as possible, for every taste, and to keep a balance between Gen and Slash.

Why this must be read:

"But Not For Me" by Jane Faifax was one of the first slash stories I ever read, three years ago, and certainly the first that could not be placed in the "mild slash" category (and that's an understatement). The author herself uses the expression "sex marathon" to describe the hottest part of the narrative. I'd need a rating higher than NC 17 to qualify the scorching intensity of some pages.

So, it had the effect of an electric shock on me and I was stunned, not knowing whether I should like or dislike the strange thing. I am not so naive any more but I remain strongly impressed by the blasting might of Jane Fairfax' writing.

Her vision of the characters was not mine and still is not. If you absolutely refuse any idea of a tormented, vulnerable Illya, submissive to a rather mean, manipulative and bossy Napoleon you won't be pleased. I don't say "Don't read it" because it's not my role here and also because, as we say in French "better not to die an idiot" (meaning: all experiences are useful).

So, you are warned. But don't be afraid; everything is for the best at the end and naughty Napoleon is redeemed!
