Fandom: The West Wing Pairing: mostly gen, hints of Andi/Toby Author on LJ: dancinginsane/ soaked_in_starsAuthor website: n/a Why this must be read: I wanted to rec something light and fun, and I love the women of the West Wing, who don't get to interact with one another often enough. The premise of this one is simple: CJ Cregg, Andrea Wyatt, and Donna Moss attempt to keep themselves entertained on a long trek through the Midwest, with amusing results. Sparkling dialogue with an underlying sweetness. Here's a taste: ( Read more... )On the Road and On the Road AgainGo and enjoy. And laugh a lot.

Fandom: NCIS Pairing: DiNozzo/McGee Author on LJ: docmichelleAuthor Website: Tigerlady's Twisted ThoughtsWhy this must be read:I should say right up front that I almost never venture outside of my OTP (Gibbs/DiNozzo). This fic, among others, was recced to me by someone on my friends list when I announced that I was looking for non-Gibbs/DiNozzo stories to rec here. I discovered in the process of reading fics recced to me that I just can't read DiNozzo/McGee. It just doesn't work in my brain. It reads as out of character for me. Which is why I have to rec this one, because this story is in character. The DiNozzo/McGee is pretty light, but it's there, and it works. For me, that's impressive enough to deserve a rec. It's Tony, Tim, and Abby having drinks and teasing each other. Then it gets a little out of hand. For Tony, at least. Drinking Games

Fandom: DOCTOR WHO Pairing: Nine/Rose/Jack Auhor on LJ: astra_argenteaAuthor Website: Stories in MemoriesWhy this story must be read:This is a lyrical and disjointed piece, Nine/Rose/Jack in all its messy glory. Jack is figuring things out and fitting in, and it's just so perfectly him. It's sharp, mathematics and a fairy tale. ( An excerpt. )Ever After

Fandom: STARGATE ATLANTIS Pairing: McKay/Sheppard (sort of) Author on LJ: liek_omg_Author Web site: None, but all fic and fan art are usefully tagged at her LJ Why this must be read: Oh. My. God. What is not to love in this cracked-up world of talking hair and weird little colorful animals? I'm using the term "fic" here loosely, because "Stargate Snarklantis" is really an episodic fan art comic strip–type thing. This utterly funny and adorable strip follows the adventures of John Sheppard's hair, which falls insanely in love with Rodney McKay's hair, and which is determined to do something about it. The humor lies in the images, all poufy hair with big, expressive eyes, and of course the wacky plot, which teeters from hair love to finding dragons ("I think your invaluable scientific proof just peed on you.") to Beckett's strange propensity to keep beds and hot babes in his room. Seventeen strips have been posted to date, but I'm rec'ing this even though I suppose it's technically a work in progress because it's a ton of fun, and narrative closure is not really important. Go forth and enjoy! Stargate Snarklantis by Miss Supersonic (G), presented in reverse order, or you can start with the first post if you prefer

Fandom: STARSKY/HUTCH Pairing: Starsky/Hutch Author on LJ: shorts7Why this must be read: Originally published in the zine A Love Story, this is a story about secrets. Hutch takes off in the middle of questioning and Starsky's bound and determined to find out why. But will Hutch's revelation destroy their partnership? "Who do you think you see when you look at me?" asked Hutch, glancing quickly at Starsky, then dropping his gaze back down.
"I don't think, I know," stated Starsky, sitting his beer bottle on the coffee table and leaning toward his partner. Hutch must be wrestling with some big moral demons for him to ask this. The case they were on must have been harder on Hutch than he had realized. "You're the most good, caring, and honorable guy I've ever known. There's no one else I would trust with my life. You've always been there for me, no matter what, and I hope you know I'll always be here for you."
Hutch faintly nodded as though that was the answer he expected from Starsky. Placing his bottle next to Starsky's, he rubbed his face with his hands. "What if I told you something that changed the way you saw me, that made you realize you never knew me the way you thought you did?"When truths come to light, it complicates things, but it also brings to the surface a couple of truths that Starsky's left long-buried, too. Will they both come to terms with the fact that the partner they thought they knew was hiding things about themselves? It's about trust and figuring out if what they have is worth fighting for. Fandom: STARSKY/HUTCH Pairing: Starsky/Hutch Why this must be read: This is a story surrounding the Starsky and Hutch on Playboy Island episode. The partners are involved already, but this is no holiday vacation for them. The nightmares of what Papa Theodore inflicted upon them will not go away. "Wha'd'ya doin' up?"
Starsky smiled in the dark; poor Blintz really was half-asleep still. "Closing the curtain. Hsh, lie down, I'm goin' back to bed."
But instead, Hutch swung his legs over, turning, and reached for Starsky as he walked between the beds. "C'm'ere a minute."
Well, since Hutch was awake, Starsky wouldn't argue. He held the tousled head against his chest and smoothed down the unruly hair. Moved his hand around Hutch's ear, still so warm from being buried in the pillow, and down to the neck, where he stroked even more gently, back and forth. "I'm sorry," he said softly, then laid his cheek against the warm silk. "Sorry."
Hutch held him tighter. "I knew you'd feel bad," he said, still sleepily, "but it wasn't your fault, buddy. Really."
Starsky shuddered, only partly because the night chill was getting to him. "I could've really hurt you," he said.
"Nah." Hutch tilted his head back. Starsky could see his teeth, so he was smiling. "I'm bigger than you are, punk."
Starsky gave him a push, but when Hutch fell back he pulled Starsky with him, and they ended up sprawled together on the bed. Starsky tried to sit up, but Hutch held on. "Stay," he said. Starsky's worried about what happened, frightened really. He wants to make sure it never happens again and that Papa Theodore's hold on them is long gone. But breaking his curse is not so easy and they will have to travel a long road before they can regain what was lost. Fallen in the Sea

Fandom: STARSKY/HUTCH Pairing: Starsky/Hutch Why this must be read: Starsky's telling a bedtime story and Hutch has to listen, but he does more than that. He adds to the situation with hands-on activities. "Wait," said Hutch, voice low.
Starsky wouldn't. "She played me like a guitar," he said.
"Wait," Hutch repeated. "See? You waste it. Think about the guitar, Starsk." His voice sank even lower. Starsky listened, loving it that Hutch had been drawn in. "The way a guitar looks. The smoothness of the wood. The shape of it ..." and the tips of Hutch's fingers, the light edge of his clipped nails, moved around the curve of Starsky's ass, in to his waist, out to his upper ribs, back down the diagonal of that guitarlike curve, not as pronounced as a woman's, but there. Starsky shivered.
Hutch sat up and bent over Starsky's body. "And the strings," he said, his fingers strumming through the hair just below Starsky's navel.
"I -- I'm glad she didn't use a pick," Starsky said, trying to joke though he'd closed his eyes at the sensation. The two of them have an on-again/off-again kind of sexual relationship. Starsky's more in favor of the on-again if you ask him. And Hutch is not really that big a fan of bedtime stories, especially when it cuts into his one on one time with Starsky.
