Graphic noncon m/m between two minors. Graphic violence. Virulent anti-Semitism. Partially set at a concentration camp. Parts of this story are extremely disturbing.}There are very few Mort-centric fics around. This story handles both the quirky tone of the character along with his, briefly mentioned in canon, concentration camp backstory. The author does a great job at maintaining Mort's voice in both then and now, as well as the brief appearance by Lieutenant Welsh. The usualness of the present day scene violently contrasts with the flashback to his time at Auschwitz, and the shift in tone partway through works very effectively. The events in flashback are both powerful and dark (Author's warnings included above) with a very visceral, disturbing edge. Yet Mort is still Mort, and his actions in the last scene at the morgue reaffirms not just his survival but himself as the slightly odd, opera-singing coroner that he is. ( Excerpt )Stronger | | |

Lily gets whacked in the breast with a bludger and turns to Snape to keep it from happening again. Didodikali's style of illustrated fanfic is a wonderful treat; I'd highly recommend wandering her site for more fantastic illustrated HP fics. And now, the dastardly ulterior motive: a quick out-of-fandom rec. While you're perusing Didodikali's site, read Four Minutes. You do not have to know a thing about Escaflowne to enjoy it; I'm completely ignorant of the fandom. Fandom: HARRY POTTER Pairing: Snape/Harry/Snape Author on LJ: ze_dragonAuthor Website: Dark CavernsWhy this must be read:Harry goes back in time to serve the Order by translating Voldemort's stolen plans from Parseltongue into something more comprehensible. And, on a more personal note, to see his lover, his parents, and his adult friends before Voldemort changed everything. But unbeknownst to him, his lover, Snape, has his own motives for allowing Harry to play the part of Octavian Tyler, motives which are somewhat mercenary. I love the intertwined love story: Harry's seduction of Professor Snape mirrors and influences Severus's seduction of Professor Tyler, and vice versa, the insecurities and lessons of each past informing each present. But even more, I love how perfectly the fic avoids becoming a Harry-Sue; Octavian Tyler seems pretty bad-ass to all the Hogwarts students, but in private he's still stumbling around in the dark, like all adults. Fandom: CSI: Crime Scene Investigation Pairing: Nick-centric. Author on LJ: kristen999Author Website: Fic located here.Why this must be read: One of the lengthy, angsty, emotional, casefile Nick-centric fics out there, and this is one of the best. Nerve-wracking. Makes your mind spin. Makes you go, "wait, what did they just do to him!?" and go back and re-read the chapter. Just for the fun of it. There's not much more to say, other than the fact that this is one of the best Nick stories out there at the moment. We get all of Nick's old demons, memories and fears. Nick nodded. "We have at least seven interviews to conduct, four patients to process, not to mention we need to find the head of the hospital and get information regarding these inmates. And we get no help on this?"
Grissom appeared to study the distance between where the body had been and the alarm near the entrance. He snapped a picture of it. "Catherine and Warrick are on that ping-pong competition murder, Greg's attending one his mandatory seminars, and I have Sara involved in background research into the hospital."
Nick stood stiffly, working his jaw back and forth. "We could use the extra hand."
Grissom looked up. "I didn't want her involved in this."
Nick peeled back his latex gloves placing them in a plastic bag. "You didn't want her to experience coming back to a place like this. I understand." Nick placed the bagged gloves with the rest of his kit. "It's a nice consideration about what happened last year. She could do her job just fine, but why try to balance an act around such a reminder."

Lawrence is my favorite character, and is also seriously unrepresented in the fandom as a whole. Still, theirishpig seemed to understand this, and wrote a beautiful character-piece about him.
It is an unusual take on what his future might hold. Heavy on the angst, but very real-to-life. And the imagery? Perfect.
