Why this must be read:

A lovely look at what could be sometime down the road.

"Like crazy," he said, and kissed Tony hard, kissed him on the mouth and neck and above his eyebrow, kissed him with soft-mouthed passion, kissed him with a familiar desperate heat, kissed him the way Gibbs had always kissed him, right from day one; that rainy late-autumn day that Tony had driven Gibbs home, thinking it was Goodbye, it's been swell, the taste of retirement-party champagne faint on his tongue, and instead Gibbs had unhooked his seatbelt, leaned over the handbrake, and claimed Tony like he couldn't wait another minute.

08:37 pm How She Dies by inlovewithnight (PG)
Hey, I'm [livejournal.com profile] destinylight and I'll be reccing Angel fics for you this month. :D I definitely have an Angel/Spike bias, but I'll try my best to rec a whole variety of fics.

Fandom: ANGEL
Pairing: Ensemble, Fred-centric
Author on LJ: [livejournal.com profile] inlovewithnight
Author Website: Exaggeration and Blank Verse
Why this must be read:
So, I know that everybody and their mother in the Jossverse fandom has recced [livejournal.com profile] inlovewithnight at least once. There's a good reason for that of course, and I'm shocked that How She Dies hasn't been recced yet. This lovely piece is a favorite of mine, because it's nothing short of brilliant. Five drabbles of how Fred should've died, and each of them offer this amazing amazing insight, not only into Fred, but the rest of the Angel-cast. All of them were absolutely heartbreaking, and really, I can't do justice to this piece at all.

You'll just have to trust me when I say this is one of the best-written pieces you'll come across in any fandom. Her images and her scenarios are gorgeous, but more than that, it's the words she chooses to convey the images and the emotions. She strings words together perfectly, precisely and each one has an impact upon the reader.

10:25 pm Go Not to Lethe by queenofthorns (PG)
Fandom: BATTLESTAR GALACTICA 2003
Pairing: Gen (Lee Adama focus)
Author on LJ: [livejournal.com profile] queenofthorns
Author Website: none
Why this must be read: In a show dealing with dark themes (the loss of the colonies, the deaths of billions, the constant fear of attack), it's not surprising that some of the characters begin to succumb to despair and hopelessness. We see here, through the eyes of Lee Adama, just how the loss, not of things, but of beliefs and possibilities, can destroy a soul. This is powerful, disturbing and human. There's a wonderful sense of the relationships between characters and how those are strained by the events of season two in the series. The story is perfectly anchored in the apt words of John Keats' "An Ode to Melancholy" that provide the title (Lethe is the river of forgetfulness in Greek mythology).
