Fandom: THE SENTINEL
Pairing: Jim/Blair
Author on LJ: [livejournal.com profile] elmyraemilie
Author Website: none
Why this must be read: EE explores the idea that Jim Ellison became an artist, rather than a cop, and makes a sensuous, well-considered AU out of it. That’s my name on the beta, but I promise the integrity of all parties involved is intact. *g* It’s a good story, and the little riff on the pottery wheel scene from ‘Ghost’? Ooh, baby.

06:08 pm Stop, Look, Listen by Genee Li (PG)
Hi! I'm Turlough and this is the first time I'm driving the van. You will probably see a lot of Lancecentric stories recced this month (yes, I'm a Lance girl at heart :-) but also Backstreet Boys stories and Nsync/BSB crossovers.

Fandom: POPSLASH
Pairing: Lance/Eminem
Author on LJ: [livejournal.com profile] geneli4
Author Website: sparkle and shine

Why this must be read: Because this is the Lance/Eminem story and I'm amazed that someone hasn't recced it already! Because it's quiet and understated and sweet in a totally non-saccharine way. Lance happens to meet Eminem at an aquarium in Connecticut and this is the story about what happened afterwards. I love the way Genee Li writes, how she makes the words flow over the page. There's always something warm and sensual over her prose, even in a story like this without any explicit sex.

06:13 pm I'll Fly Away by Roxy (NC-17)
Fandom: Smallville
Pairing: Clark/Pete, mentions of Clark/Lex and Pete/Other
Author on LJ: [livejournal.com profile] roxymissrose
Author's Website: Roxy at SSA
Link: I'll Fly Away

Why This Must Be Read: I have to say, I was a Pete hater there for a while, I admit it, but Roxy can convert anyone. This story is set in the American South during Freedom Summer, 1964, when young people fought, in many ways, to unite the country. There is something so delicious about dangerous, forbidden type romances and it doesn't get any more forbidden or dangerous than inter-racial, homosexual relations in that setting.

Roxy tells it from Pete's POV and I've never read a better Pete. Thing is with Pete, he tries to be this playa-playa on the outside, yeah, but still it is difficult to think of him as a sexual being, probably because of his proximity to the screaming hotness of Lex and Clark, but in this story? He's freaking Isaac Hayes sexy, let me lay you down by the fire and make sweet love to you sexy, melt your panties sexy and Clark is pretty and sweet and earnest and everything Clark should be, including hung up on Lex.

06:42 pm Threatened by Granitite (R)
Fandom: POPSLASH
Pairing: Eminem/suprise
Author on LJ: [livejournal.com profile] granitite
Author Website: Granitite's Realm

Why this must be read: Because this story is intense and funny, and the slow relevation of what and who has Em so rattled that he even attempts suicide really, really works. It's told almost exclusively in dialogue, with very little introspection or description, and despite the high-drama start it is a very matter-of-fact, non-melodramatic story that is one of my favourite Eminem/boybander fic ever.

09:30 pm Resistance is Useless by Miss Murchison (PG)
Evening folks, I'm [livejournal.com profile] netgirl_y2k and I'll be reccing Buffy this month, it was my first fandom and I'm going to dig out some of my favourite stories for you.

Fandom: BUFFY THE VAMPIRE SLAYER
Pairing: Tara/Anya
Author on LJ: [livejournal.com profile] missmurchison
Author Website: Chiaroscuro
Why this must be read:

Because Tara/Anya is a pairing that makes a surprising amount of sense when you think about it and this fic is one of the finest examples of it I've read. It's eccentric and funny and charming and it's got a transvestite in it, what's not to love.

"Of course. We're girlfriends now." Anya beamed and linked her arm with Tara's, nodding at the salesclerk to include her in the announcement. "In that way."

"What?" Tara hadn't known her voice could reach that high a note.

Anya released her, pouting. "Sweetie, I don't know why you can't see this is a perfect rebound relationship for the both of us. You're as different from Xander as possible, and you're so incredibly sweet I can't imagine you ever giving me reason to feel vengancey, so I shouldn't have the least impulse to take up my old ways again. And I'm a very obsessive girlfriend, with a tendency to idealize my love object, so instead of being taken for granted and manipulated like you were with Willow, you can enjoy my complete and utter devotion."

10:42 pm While You Were Sleeping by Linda Cornett (NC-17)
Fandom: THE MAN FROM U.N.C.L.E.
Pairing: Napoleon/Illya, Napoleon/Angelique
Author on LJ: [livejournal.com profile] lcorn
Author website: Observations
Why this must be read:

Open Channel D. [Bad username or site: @ livejournal.com] here, slipping back behind the wheel again for the month of September.

First up is a witty and enormously entertaining story that finds Solo and Kuryakin in a tropical locale, sharing one tacky room and one cramped bed. Angelique happens by and when she glimpses Illya lying naked and asleep on the bed, she decides to make some mischief.

Over dinner and during a walk on the beach afterward, the Thrushwoman stimulates Solo’s libido while planting the seeds for some wicked fantasies involving his partner. Recognizing his “marvelous appetite” and his sexual adventurism, she coyly wonders aloud why Solo doesn’t vary his diet now and then. After all, man does not live by steak alone.

Solo protests but it does no good and soon he’s entertaining possibilities that he’s never considered before.

I actually checked the list twice because I couldn’t believe that no one had recc’d this story previously. It’s a classic and worth revisiting. The first time I read it, the ending was cleverly ambiguous, making the story unclassifiable. Other readers were not quite as satisfied, however, so Linda extended the narrative, and that piece appears on her site. Personally, I liked the first version because I prefer subtlety and as Solo himself demonstrates, the imagination can be a powerful thing.

So, how hot is it in fictional Santa Ana? It’s so hot that ... well, see for yourself...
