Fandom: POPSLASH
Pairing: Chris/Lance
Author on LJ:
Author Website: http://www.illuminations.nu/experimentv/stories.html
Why this must be read:

I have to end the month (um, locally it's just edged into next month, but I haven't gone to bed yet...) with a rec for what may be my favourite popslash story of all.

No, I don't have an mpreg kink, I just... This is the story of how a relationship between two reluctant, wary people comes into solidity, and I think it is wonderful. The pregnancy handwaving is just detailed enough to make it workable (plus, diagrams!); the practicalities are dealt with so well that I can't help but feel, if men these days did get pregnant, this would be how they'd manage. More importantly, if *Chris Kirkpatrick* got pregnant, this would be how *he* would deal with it. And Lance is bewildered and outraged and gradually realises this is the best thing that ever happened in his life.

It's not an mpreg-as-kink story, it's a love story, and I adore it.

Pairing: Orlando Bloom/Elijah Wood, Orlando Bloom/Liv Tyler, Elijah Wood/Liv Tyler
Author on LJ: [livejournal.com profile] abundantlyqueer
Author Website: An Index ofabundantlyqueer's Fanfic
Why this must be read: It's by abundantlyqueer so it's mind-meltingly hot by definition. Plus it's High Renaissance priest-kink. Involving the Borgias. Or LOTRiPS versions thereof anyway. Did I mention it's hot? And beautiful? And just, y'know, shiny? Yeah. It's all that.

09:59 am Merrily We Roll Along by Vicky Loebel (G)
Fandom: THE MAN FROM U.N.C.L.E.
Pairing: None
Author on LJ: No
Author Website: http://www.loebelclark.com/FanfictionHub/FanFicHub.htm
Why this must be read:

The Man from UNCLE has been going for a long time (it has a claim to be the oldest media fandom) and has been extraordinarily lucky in continuing to attract outstanding writers over the years. I want to celebrate this remarkable longevity by reccing both older and newer stories and writers; some of them are UNCLE stalwarts, whilst others have only recently arrived here, but they have all left their mark one way or another, both on the fandom in general and on me in particular.

I'm beginning with Vicky Loebel. Vicky is one of the most amazing writers in any fandom, ever. Her stories are beautifully written, cleverly plotted and packed with stunning little details and insights into the characters. She's also very witty and a master of the art of perfect phrasing. Vicky usually publishes in zines, but, luckily for us, she puts her stories online after two years have elapsed (and how I wish more zine writers would follow her example). Her Small Kindness Affair, which has already been recced, is possibly my single favourite fanfic of all time, but her most recent transfer from zinedom, “Merrily We Roll Along”, is also a wonderful story.

Amnesiac!Illya battles an icy mountain road, a snowstorm, a lorry full of Thrush and a partner who thinks he's an enemy. The story is told in the first person, and Illya's voice is a wonderful mixture of dry understatement and ironic humour, as he tries to knit himself together, to work out who he is and why he's here, all the while trying to avoid dying. The opening line gives a clear indication of the pleasures to come: “There is an art to driving an automobile down a steep mountain slope in a blizzard that is almost impossible to acquire as a member of the Soviet Submarine Service.” The rest of the story is just as good!

11:10 am Snape: The Home Fries Nazi by pir8fancier (NC-17)
Hi, I'm [livejournal.com profile] delmar_slashers and I'll be the Harry Potter driver for this month. All my recs will be slash. My favorite pairings are: Harry/Snape and Ron/Draco, so expect a few of them. Here's the first one.

Fandom: HARRY POTTER
Pairing: Snape/Harry
Author on LJ: [livejournal.com profile] pir8fancier
Author Website: Stories by Pir8fancier at Walking the Plank

Why this must be read: because the author takes the Snape we've known for years and turns him into a Muggle cook. However, don't let that and the title throw you off, this is an amazing story.

The raw emotions between Harry and Snape, the setting, original characters and finally the absolutely-not-a-fucking-cliche-in-sight, beautiful plot will blow you away. I never thought I'd buy Snape as the owner of a greasy diner, but this author pulls it off -- brilliantly. Harry as a lost soul who comes to Snape, his enemy, for help...if this story doesn't move you, I don't know what will.

Hi! My name is [livejournal.com profile] ignazwisdom and I'm excited to be driving the [livejournal.com profile] crack_van this month for House. I'm a House/Wilson slasher, so most of my recs will probably be for that pairing, but there might be a few surprises :) Thanks for having me on board!

Fandom: HOUSE
Pairing: House/Wilson
Author on LJ: [livejournal.com profile] rubberbutton
Author Website: memories
Why this must be read:

[livejournal.com profile] rubberbutton is easily one of the best writers in this fandom, and I was thrilled when this story came across my friends list. I'm a total sucker for long stories, and at 23,000 words, this is one of the longer ones in the fandom. That said, the warning for character death put me off reading it for months. But [livejournal.com profile] rubberbutton handles the painful and too-often-contrived subject with haunting grace. Her characters are strikingly true to the ones on the show and her writing is phenomenal. This story may leave you devastated -- it did me -- but it's well worth the ride.

08:08 pm The Smart One by FernWithy (PG)
Fandom: STAR WARS
Pairing: none
Author on LJ: [livejournal.com profile] fernwithy
Author Website: FernWithy's fic at The Force.net, Fern's Big Head Site, and Vader's Mask.
Why this must be read: You remember how Padme's first kiss was with a kid named Palo, an artist, when she was twelve? Yeah. This is his story, a few years after the Empire came to power. It's about art, and truth, and what happens to them in an oppressive society. And it's about Vader's obsessions. FernWithy takes a throwaway line from Episode II, and turns it into a flesh-and-blood character with his own life and history.

Fandom: STARSKY & HUTCH
Pairing: GEN
Author on LJ: [livejournal.com profile] myrebelcat
Author Website: http://rebelcat4.tripod.com/index.html
Why this must be read:

This story is not in Rebel's usual comic style, but it's wonderful just the same. It captures so well the strength of these characters, their ability to pick themselves up and keep going, how they support each other. It also has a fascinating OC.

Hi, I'm [livejournal.com profile] becky_monster and it's my honour (and surprise) to be driving the NCIS van for July. I promise drive slightly better than Ziva and with more sense of direction than Ducky does;) My tastes run the gamut from gen to slash and back again. I'll try to touch on both the 'usual suspects' pairings and the not-so-well-known on my round. So strap yourselves in and enjoy the ride...

Fandom: NCIS
Pairing: None
Author on LJ: [livejournal.com profile] dragonessasmith
Author Website: [livejournal.com profile] smithyfic
Why this must be read:

Despite being an overgrown frat boy, Tony Di Nozzo does have some good points. One is that he is a damn fine cop. Another is that he loves cinema (that and he has the worst case of hero worship where his boss is concerned!). And boy... doesn't everyone damn well know it! As Ziva points out in 'Hiatus part 1' Tony's last words will be 'I know this movie!'. Which as a movie geek of many years standing, is something I can agree with/find very endearing!

In this story, Tony goes to the movies, his 'happy place' (if you will). Only to find his 'arch nemesis', Agent Ron Sacks of the FBI there too. Unfortunately, the movie theatre isn't big enough for the both of them.

I love the voices and the humour in this story. So I recommend this story to anyone who loves cinema and the simple act of going to the movies. Not to mention anyone who loves a story where two guys who have more in common than either will happily admit, snark and bitch at each other.

11:00 pm Reichenbach: A Love Story by SimplyElymas - PG-13
Hi, I'm birggitt, and I'll be driving the Sherlock Holmes Van this month.
You must be aware, as I'm a happy, old, unrepentant slasher, it's quite likely all my recs ending being slash. I'll do my best to rec some gen fics, just, you know... slasher...

Fandom: Sherlock Holmes
Pairing: Holmes/Watson
Author on LJ: Don't know
Author Website: http://www.fanfiction.net/s/3272699/1/
Why this must be read:
Because is a long, anguish, beautifully wrote story. A love story, indeed, but not a romantic, full of kisses and hugs kind of story. Is harsh, almost painful, dryly realistic.
A story told from both, Sherlock and Watson POV's, with all their doubts, fears, self-loathing and regrets.
Sherlock's voice is quite...unusual, and yet, strangely, very accurate and fitting. You'll be drawn for it, you'll believe it.
What else you need in a story?

Hello again, Stars here back for a third road trip... *cough* and possibly the last Farscape recs if nobody else signs up, hint hint! *cough* I'll be reccing fics both older and brand-new, with a variety of characters and 'ship and genres.

Fandom: FARSCAPE
Pairing: none (gen)
Author on LJ: [livejournal.com profile] miss_direct
Author Website: none, at the moment - other fic can be found here in memories
Why this must be read:
Noranti is an enigmatic character in the Farscape universe - by turns seemingly helpful and potentially harmful - with a cryptic agenda, at the very least. Shaye does a marvelous job of fleshing her out in this short fic, set post Bad Timing. [Spoilers for 3.22 Dog With Two Bones, through season 4]
